I dare say this will be a good one, though more for the reactions rather than the games themselves

The event will feature updates on Ubisoft's upcoming games, including exclusive looks at Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed Shadows, XDefiant, and more.

Predicting a lot of cool games and, as usual, a lot of misguided hate in the comments.

It's probably not misguided if one isn't a fan of the Ubisoft formula. Checkbox and repetitive, yet somewhat addictive gameplay isn't for everyone.

New Anno game 117 with a Roman Empire focus is very nice, especially following the back to back masterpieces that are Anno 1800 and 1404.

Assassin's Creed looks okay. Not really the next gen update I was hoping for.
They should have done what they did before Origins and take a year/two year breather. Have smaller scale AC2 titles like Mirage in between, alternate between Origins scale titles. Actually I think that is what they did. No need for insane size of Odyssey and Valhalla honesty, even Origins was really pushing how much stuff you can cram into an Assassins Creed game. If Ubisoft wants well received open worlds, they need better and high quality open world content ala Elden Ring and Witcher 3.

Shit I would love an open world Ghost of Tsushimia like Prince of Persia with the best of both worlds from Sands of Time trilogy, 2008 combined with the good parts of an open world, not the bad ones. Division 3 should also be really good if it improves on 2/Warlords of New York.

Mirage was just a side game. This is the first big AC game since Valhalla. Definitely took a breather.

Shadows looks like more of the same open world Assassin's Creed.

I'd say it's interesting that they've got this new AC game and all they've shown with gameplay is more of the same enemy outpost stuff.

If there are any truly new or exciting aspects then they are certainly holding back on showing those off.

The main focus has really been on the main characters, but the ninja lady's voice acting is pretty bad, and the Japanese setting, but it's really just more of the same from AC but with a Japanese skin.

Game is coming in just a few months and they haven't really led with the story or the interesting and new aspects of the gameplay.

No doubt it will sell loads and people will be buying that online currency to get stupid looking character skins and whatever but I didn't see anything particularly good there at all.

It seems two characters play completely different, Yasuke is a melee grunt and the girl can't fight but very stealthy. It's an interesting change.

Apparently environment is very destructive this time and light plays a similar role to Splinter Cell so there are some engine enhancements.

Those things are hardly interesting enough to lead with as talking points for the newest and first pure current gen AC game.

With Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla you could already play melee style or stealth style depending on your preference. Splitting that between 2 characters is new but hardly a big deal.

Thing is, Ubisoft themselves are making a big deal of this "people have been wanting AC in Japan since forever" angle but now that they are showing the game there isn't really anything there to get the audience hyped up.

Aren't they going to hype up the story? Or even show how the dual protagonist system is going to change the way AC stories are told?

One of the things I thought they would be eager to avoid would be negative comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima. They'd want to show why their game is better. Instead we got a pretty lazy demonstration of combat and a pretty standard "inflitrate the enemy outpost and assassinate someone" that we've seen so many times before.

Yes, the game will sell millions but there was nothing really that impressive shown off here.

I don't disagree. I'm curious about what regions of Japan are present but they didn't talk about it. Assassins weren't mentioned at all. Don't think they care about Ghost of Tsushima comparisons. They'll show more of the game eventually. Usually they hold another Forward in september.
