Thread: PlayStation State of Play confirmed for Thursday at 3 PM PT
Rivals looks better than concord. At least it has destructable environments which was a cool gimmick. And X men. Concord is going to bomb. I am sure they are hiding some more woke I fully expect the robot to he non binary and one of the black woman avatars to be trans.

Was it just me or was there alot of feudal Japan stuff going on. Either everyone was like we gotta follow ubisoft or Sony wants to get some Japan sales.

Silent Hill looked like a mobile Resident Evil clone. Yikes shit looked rough

Oh I just thought when I said Silent Hill James Sutherland looked like Troy Baker, it is actually Troy Baker WTF lol.

RGT85.made a good point about concord and AAA development. Because the cycle is so long the fad devs are chasing has petered out by the time the game releases. When Sony thought of the game Overwatch was still popular and GOTG was smashing it at the BO. It's years later and hero shooters fad has passed. OW2 came out and went over like a wet fart. Sony probably thought there's a gazillion OW players if we can steal a percentage of the audience will make bank. Oh and those GOTG movies are super popular let's rip that off. Will make so much money. 6 years later GOTG franchises ended and there were a million OW clones that came and went.

The SE GoTG was pretty good, but for some inexplicable reason SE decided to give it hardly any promotion and then bitch and moan about its lack of sales like they usually do. It was shame as it was quite entertaining. Worthy of a sequel that will sadly never come.

OW2 is doing better than it did last year. There's a lot of players.

This was honestly such an awful showing. It opens with Concord and they literally spend a third of the show on it. Dynasty Warriors meh ok it does something for some people I guess. The Nikki game looks like they spent some time on the visuals, but it looks like a simple photograph game. Ballad of Antara ok looks decent, nothing earth shattering. VR game I don't care….

Hey look, the head of Sony something or other is a troon named Shawne Benson. How adorable. An Until Dawn remake, really? It was okay the first time, but who wants to play it again? Why not a new game? Path of Exile looks decent, Silent Hill 2 looks rough, Monster Hunter looks great if you're into Monster Hunter. Astro Bot looks great, but the bar was so low given how shit the rest of the show was.

This is the industry leader's best for the coming year or so? Pretty sad state of affairs.

I doubt any of them are like we need to drop OW2 for Sonys knock off game. If they stuck through OW 1 and OW2 I doubt they are going to jump to a 5 year later competitor.

On Point. It's the same reason why many MMOs came after WoW tried and failed. There's ultimately a finite audience for these things and getting people to switch when they are already heavily invested is pretty difficult. They might give a game a trial for a period, but ultimately unless the game is a vastly superior product with a clearly addictive hook, they'll drift back to what they are more comfortable with.

She's not a troon but a full blown ally. Super woke, in charge of Sony 3rd party games.

Surprisingly, the reception of the event wasn't great

A whopping 50% of readers said that the presentation was 'poor', 'very poor', or outright 'terrible'. A further 26% said it was just 'okay', while the minority of 23% went with the more positive options. Again, we haven't seen a reaction like this since the Suicide Squad State of Play — and that thing got absolutely slaughtered back in February.

I guess their expectation from Sony was everyone would be excited by Concord, whereas the reality was it landed like a wet fart at a Funeral.

Should have cut concord to 2 minute gameplay trailer. Shown some CGI teasers for Wolverine and Uncharted.

Bizarrely this was the first Playstation State of Play I caught live in years.

It was hilariously dog shit.

Astrobot was the first Playstation first party game in years I've had any excitement for, and it was a single lost engagement ring in a sewer of slop.

Well, and Infinite Nikki. I'd be lying if I said that didn't oddly interest me.

Not even a semi for the new God of War?

At this point anything that decides to colour wash European/Asian history and myth is dead to me.

Hogwarts Legacy, depicting 19th Century Scotland as as ethnically diverse as most European capital cities today, when even modern Scotland is still 95%+ White, was pretty much the last straw on that front.

There's a million other games to play that aren't made by people that want to rewrite history to suite their delusions and use my hobby to push their racial prejudices.

This.

also, even if the story allowed for believable multicultural/multiracial characters, White males are shown as weak, bumbling, and evil and woman as glorious girl bosses.

These developers can't help but insert their beliefs and politics into their work.

Presumably you guys have read reviews/impressions from the PS5 release to get this opinion. That's disappointing because 2018 was excellent. I'm going in blind and still going to give it the benefit of the doubt. If they do let me down, I just won't buy any future games from them. It's hard to see them going that hard into politics that is makes the game unenjoyable, but we shall see.

Aye, I loved 2018, it's up there with Mad Max Fury Road for me for media that managed to thread the needle of depicting both toxic masculinity AND toxic femininity to deliver a fundamentally wholesome and traditional morality tale in a modern and most importantly competent manner.

To be honestly I just saw black Norse gods and immediately lost interest. If they'd actually used some of the many, MANY awesome African myths and ancient religious pantheons as a cool way to also add some world building, I'd have been delighted, but just the usual 'shove a black person where they make zero sense to be' approach these racist bastards always use is just not worth my time and money on, even if I'm sure the fact that's the case means there must be other bollocks there too.

The tards at these companies chasing constant growth are so stupid they really think the general audience has enough fucking time for nine thousand goddamn live service games. Why tf would people switch from whatever has kept them occupied for the last 4 years to this new thing when they still enjoy the old thing? It doesn't help that these games are super grindy and almost jobs in themselves. It's pure insanity to try and compete in this market unless you intentionally wait to fill in a void once the last popular franchise dies off, which is pretty difficult to time.

Outside of the silly random black Frost Giants, Rag's biggest problem is bloat and pacing. There are a ton of obnoxious puzzles thrown at you constantly as a stopgap to your progress, environments are large and boring with the only interesting things going on being the chatter with whoever your current companion is.

The game's plot isn't as interesting(I enjoyed the low stakes of 2018), Kratos isn't as likeable and the game goes full on in the whole "old kratos bad, must not be toxic" nonsense instead of the measured approach the original took to how yeah Kratos did bad things before, but he has to be that guy still to protect his son, but demonstrate more control. This is also the dullest depiction of the Norse Gods I've seen in a while.

At least a current gen Dynasty Warriors or Monster Hunter makes sense as there will be tons of fans of that series looking out for a new entry. Neither of those would be PlayStation exclusive though?

Watching this I am thinking where are franchises like Uncharted? Where are the big hitters?

Astro Bot is an interesting one because it could very easily just be a short game like the other two or they could have been looking at Mario Odyssey and trying to go for something with a much bigger scope.

Concord was just hilarious. I can't see any way that this thing goes on to be successful.
