Is Maximus supposed to be the hero comic relief? If that was the attempt they failed. He should've died multiple times. But he dumb lucked into everything to come out top. The only spectacular thing he did was the bridge scene, I was like hell yeah! But there was never a scene like that again!

I mean this is exactly it.
He's not a hero. He tries to be one but he's horrible at it. Because he's actually a very horrible person who is very selfish
He kisses Lucy and likes her but fucks that up because why? At the end of the day he wants to be a hero.
Hero's are selfless but he isn't. He gives them a fake head but in the end his pussy sides catches up and he fucks gives everything away
It's pretty telegraphed what they have in store for Maximus. He's gonna rise to the top due to selfishness and share dumb luck.
And in the end when he feels he has it all. He's gonna lose it and his luck runs out. He might even become leader the the BoS for LA only for it to be entirely destroyed under him.
Edit- in mostly every fallout game there are no happy endings for our protagonist. Fallout 4 best showcased this.
Pretty sure this is what going to happen to all our characters.

I think the actor has a lot to do with it for me. He's without a doubt the weakest on the show. My other grievances are with how Maximus is written. Maybe they redeem him in some way, but I'm not going to bother finding out.

I think the show definitely has some serious flaws and one of them is the writing for me
to each his own. Maximus is the least of my issues with the show for me.
There are issues with plot holes etc. But from what we've been given so far. I like it. There seems to be a genuine appreciation for fleshing out the fallout universe
Compared to other Amazon studios other fucks like ring of Powah.

Really? Most people have been pretty positive about it. It's an Amazon Studios show, so yeah there's some diversity and whatnot, however, it's not pandering or egregious so what is the issue?

I'm only two episodes in, but I agree entirely. Take Maximus, he's a deeply flawed character, which is a fucking good thing! The same people bitching about how much of a Mary Sue Rey was in Star Wars are now bitching about the fact that these characters have flaws, and like real life some people don't overcome them.
It's Fallout, it's supposed to be a shit hole full of people you expect to find in shit holes.

killing the New California Republic offscreen. Yet another example of media saying civilization cannot rebuild and endure. Ala killing off the New Republic and New Jedi Order off screen in the Star Wars sequels and depicting them in the worst light possible in everything leading up to the sequels, killing off John Conner in Terminator sequels, showing the Federation as borderline pure evil and beyond redemption in Star Trek Into Darkness, Picard, Discovery (though arguable signs of this in Deep Space 9).
I would argue one of the first major examples though was killing off Ripley, Newt and Hicks in Alien 3 after all the shit they went through in 2, if you want an outright ludicrous example of destroying a good ending and a franchise having Brodys younger son eaten by a revenge driven shark in the beginning of Jaws 4 the revenge. Too many examples in all media killing off the very idea and concept of a good ending, and hope and rebuilding. There are too many nihilists in charge of decision making for movies, TV and videogames.

Finished the series. It's not perfect but also far from bad.
Again the only "woke" I saw was the they character but very brief and not in ur face.
What I like is building on how each faction isn't perfect and each faction has a motivation for you to rally for.
I like how they're answering questions I always suspect particularly about Vault Tech.
Costume, prop and general world building is amazing and is near perfect. Few things I wish they did better was making ghouls a bit more scarier and their introduction more terrifying. Ghouls needed vials is something I didn't know until recently.
Music is on point. Nothing more to say.
Love how they made Lucy character. Definitely fits the model of a character who develops. Definitely not a Mary Sue. She's not good at everything (she was made and educated for being a servant for the executives) That's why she's been trained for being the way she is.

Refreshing to see an actor who actually feels like they need to respect the source material. You can tell in her performance. A few episodes in, just watched the Super Duper Mart scene, and this has got to be the best TV show adaptation from a game I've ever seen.

I'll bite here too Agree he's a soft pussy in the most morbid of worlds. He SHOULD be like Anthony Mackie's character in Twisted Metal in that he's a grifter that can survive on his own.
Found his character and story completely taking away from everything other than shining on Brotherhood of Steel lore which I did love as far as how fucking nuts they are.

Reading all the criticism here, I feel I am blessed that I didn't play the games much (maybe 20 hours into FO3 on PS3 back in the day) and don't mind a lot of the details people have a problem here with.
I really enjoy the show for its goofyness. Lucy is super charming and cute, Ghoul is reckless and fun, and Maximus is basically a better realized Finn from the SW sequels.
He wants to do good and be a shiny hero, but fails because in the end he is also just only a person like you and me.
The fat crapper on a fly farm talk had me and the friend I am watching it with on the floor laughing.
I can really enjoy the show for what it is.
