Which of these two movies do you think should make it to Round 3 and join the other top 80 Movies?
To help clear another potential deadlock, I will break the tie if it should arise.

Evangelion not getting as much love at second look. I guess people prefer KMovies to JMovies?

Evangelion 3+1 is looking more like Evangelion 0 with no votes.

For some reason the Youtube algorithm seems to love Evangelion though. I keep getting recommended videos from it, without any recommendations from the I Saw the Devil movie.

Here's one of the recommendations from Evangelion where it has some guy who apparently sounds like Eddy in Ed, Edd n Eddy:

Stop the weeb shit

I don't even know what I'm talking about, just want to make someone feel bad.

Fucking weebs.

Just want to announce that I won't partake in future votes. When people here so spiteful that they vote an unknown, cheap-looking Asia-flick over the best Evangelion-movie, then I know it's not worth voting. Too much agenda bs. Go cry about Trump losing or something. Whatevs.

Just for clarification, my post above was a joke. I don't honestly have anything against weeb stuff and watched Evangelion. It's fine but I wouldn't rewatch it tbh.

bro I don't think anyone here really hates you. I certainly don't. I only said anything because I was wondering why you swapped your vote. I am only half joking about the things I've said about eva too. I mean I was partly joking with my original post in the other thread. Its a decent film and to make it clear to people I do like anime and japan. I just have a few oddball problems with the medium.

You voted wrong every time anyway.

"Why didn't the forum full of middle-aged men who like '80s movies and all things manly vote for my anime about a whiny teenage boy piloting a mech who fights alongside several teenage girls that include my precious blue-haired Rei?"

So of the 7 people who voted for it, how many of you SAW that shitty Asian devil-movie? I've never heard of it.

What is the vote during productive hours. Eva weeb here.

The votes usually start at 6:00 am US Eastern Time, which is my 8:00 PM. But the votes go for 24 hours so there should be some time during the day for everyone to be able to vote.

While I haven't seen either of the two movies, I do find Evangelion a little more interesting because of how the three main characters interact. I have noticed lately that Japan seems to have more assertive and complex women in its society and culture, compared to the Mary Sue stereotype in modern western films. I guess I find the differences between a matriarchal society and (an allegedly) patriarchal society fascinating in terms of gender roles. The only thing about Evangelion I am not a fan of is that apparently in the first one, a guy (probably shinji) was jerking off in a hospital. That is just strange.

Well now since the drama settled was the rebuilds better than the original series?

REBUILD IS A CONTINUATION YOU *********. There is no "original series", it all belongs together.
I thought the rebuild is a remake of the original series and the intent of the rebuild movies were to fix the problems with the original series?

also Mr. Shinji I ask that you stop with the meltdowns.

There are no problems with the "original" series ...

  • The anime's production issues spread to its many branches. Editorials thought Sadamoto's Evangelion manga was too outdated to draw interest, while the companies in charge of the merchandising complained that the design of the EVA Units was too intricate to make toys. To top it off, public outcry rose against the series due to Episode 18 cramming too much violence in, and Episode 20 showing the sounds of Misato and Kaji making love, all of which was deemed unfit for a show commonly watched by young people. Ironically, this had been deliberate, as Anno was of the opinion that violence and sex were elements of the real world that his young viewers had to see and know.
  • The series ended in rushed fashion. Reportedly, Anno couldn't decide until the last minute what kind of format would the last two episodes have. Finally, after many rewrites and changes of script, Episode 25 and 26 aired, disconcerting and infuriating fans all around Japan due to their abstract and minimalist edition. The national shock was such that popular anthropologist Eiji Otsuka wrote a letter to the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper complaining about the finale. It also gave out many urban legends that Gainax had lost its sponsors and were forced to produce the finale this way in order to save budget.
  • Fan outrage against episodes 25 and 26 reached such a fever pitch that Gainax's offices were vandalized by an unknown party — one internal memo even wondered if it came from an obscure cult. Anno himself faced death threats, one of which simply read "Anno, I'll kill you" over and over again. Photos of these incidents were briefly seen in The End of Evangelion.

It was obvious from watching the show that gainax was going through quite a bit of financial trouble. That is why the final episodes ,despite being neat, went nowhere and was hardly even what you'd call a ending more of a "screw this it isn't working lets scrap it and try something else." Another thing that is in front of your face is end of eva was unairable due to its violence. Before that they even had to change the plot halfway through which is why it became so bizarre towards the end. But people apparently liked the series so they continued marketing it and selling merchandise in order to break even. Its possible by now they've finally broke even.

If anything during this time period what made this series stand out the most was how different it was from the sea of endless mecha shows that were out at the time. I don't think there was a show that was anything like this at the time (maybe I'm wrong) and the evas themselves were distinct enough to stand out but they were unable to make toys out of them due to the design.

All I now know is that you never watched NGE yourself.

Well Shinji I did. I watched the original series and (maybe at least half or more) of the 1.0 movie a few years ago. I'm not spending a bunch of time to understand a anime by over contributing to capitalism via the consumption of lore, youtube videos on the lore, and merchandise. Matter of fact thats the whole reason the anime was made was to encourage people NOT to do that. The core message of the anime is to get a life. The religious symbolism is not meant to mean anything other than to look cool (Anno's own words.)

Go watch it before you talk about it.

Well I mean Chrono is the greek god of time after all so I guess that would translate to time trigger?

Chrono Trigger sounds somewhat okay. I meant stuff like Fabula Nova Crysalis or Bravely Default. Just a random bunch of words.

Maybe fabula nova crysalis means "New Fable butterfly?" Bravely default seems to be odd choice though.
