Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty OT

Huge shout out to @regawdless as thread collaborator for the sick gifs and formatting! Thank you!

About This Game
A new dark fantasy Three Kingdoms masocore game from Team NINJA, the developers of Nioh.

184 AD, Later Han Dynasty China. The land is overcome by chaos and destruction. The imperial dynasty that prospered for many years is now about to collapse.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within.

Wo Long refers to a crouching dragon, and also refers to a hero or person of greatness who is not yet known. This is the story of officers, who will later become heroes, during their 'unknown' period, and also the story of a protagonist's rise from being a 'nobody'.

From the depths of darkness, a dragon soars.

Demons in the Kingdom
A dark fantasy set during the chaotic Three Kingdoms period, the narrative vividly tells the tale of a militia soldier's strenuous fight for survival during a Later Han Dynasty infested with demons. It's madness in the Three Kingdoms like never before!

Finally gave the demo a shot and enjoyed it. First real boss caught me by surprise but once I got the hang of him the rest of the demo was easy.

I'm a sucker for parry systems and the demo was fun enough, so I'll most likely pick this up for the weekend.

It is day one on Gamepass so I'll definitely be playing it, just need to figure out what platform.

And despite it being on Gamepass for PC, I may buy it for Steam, just because I hate not using Steam to play PC games. It just feels dirty to use another launcher.

PC gamers aren't happy with the game. Apparently, mouse + keyboard controls are screwed up.

Ya saw this but all complaints seems to be on Mouse/Keyboard so use a controller if you got one otherwise hold off.

It's on gamepass so I have no excuse not to give this a try but IMO visually it just looks like TOO MUCH which is exactly what I thought Nioh was. Are you game with combat like a souls game, are you a magic game, I dunno it looks visually beautiful and simultaneously like somebody threw up all over the screen at the same time.

I love my mkb but would never play a game like this with it, 100% controller for this. I'm more concerned about performance, crashes and pop up fuckery. The demo had some weird stutter for me.

Visuals are typical for the dev and pretty bad. Gameplay is a lot of fun though, I like the combat a lot.

I played this all of 20 minutes but was woefully unimpressed just getting through the opening without having to restart.

This feels like Sekiro without the precision where I actually believe it's me failing the action and not just jank motions. Not sure if I'm trying to be overly defensive but it sure doesn't seem like accurate defense. I could be wrong and often am but this feels like a Chinese knockoff of a From game in all the worst ways.

Does this have multiplayer/co-op?

It's so disappointing that they aren't able to release a somewhat competent PC version of their games. From the Steam reviews:

the game also suffers from a severe bug where the game speed is tied to the relation of your current fps vs the max fps you set in the options menu. If you set your max fps to 120 and the game's fps drop to 90 or lower (which will happen quite frequently) the game will now only run at 90/120 = 0.75x speed. This makes the whole experience super inconsistent since every enemies attack timings constantly change depending on how well your game runs. If your PC can keep the game above 60, you should limit the game to 60 in the graphics menu to avoid this and have a consistent experience.

cannot recommand it now. the performance of this pc port is terrible.

There are serious graphical issues in which sudden lag spikes occur (likely due to unloaded areas suddenly "popping in" on load).

The game cannot run on standard volumetric fog - turning it down to low will gain about 30-40 FPS.

If you have a hybrid video card setup, you may need to disable the integrated GPU to force the game to use the dedicated video card.

No 120 FPS option - This is actually set in windows display settings... so it will depend on your monitor and windows configuration.

Game's unplayable right now on pc
Crashed after loading my save, constant lag and stutters and graphical glitches.
Wait for it to get fixed, right now you shouldn't buy it

Played about 30 minutes on PC and so far everything seemed good. No stutters that I noticed, the level is pretty dark so difficult to tell if there's popup (I didn't see any, tho). Graphics are about as good as Nioh 2, which is to say the game has a lot of style, but textures aren't super high res (really low res in places), and a lot of the character models and effects are 'fine'.

I was disappointed to see that JP devs are now getting bit by the woke bug, with this game having body types 1 and 2, and an option to specify your personal pronouns. It's a sad, sad day.

Man, I fucking suck at deflects. I've always been a dodger in souls games, and so having to do what is essentially a parry to really fuck up your enemies is proving rather difficult. I mean, you can still dodge, but you'll find yourself huffin' and puffin' and about to get staggered if you do it too much.

Edit: I'm starting to think this game may not be for me. I really don't like the heavy reliance on these deflects. It feels too much like Sekiro, which I liked for the most part but sucked at so much that I dropped it a third of the way through because I just didn't have the reflexes for it.

Got to the first boss but haven't beat him yet

Did not expect it to be a two-stage fight. I really don't have the healing for it. I guess I need to get gud and practice my deflects/dodging.

I kinda wish this whole "phase 2" bs would just stop with these games, tbh. It's super irritating, imo. At first it was like, "Ooooh shiiiit, I thought he was down but he's not done yet!" and now you just expect it. It's kinda pointless.

Wo Long is already Team Ninja's biggest ever Steam launch, despite PC port issues

As of this writing, Wo Long has so far peaked at nearly 74,000 concurrent players on Steam - per SteamDB, a figure that continues to climb every few minutes. This currently places the action RPG just one spot shy of Steam's top 15 most played games.

Indeed, looking at Team Ninja, and Koei Tecmo's history on Steam, Wo Long is by far the pair's most successful Steam launch, exceeding Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition's 41,325 peak, the previous record-holder.

Is this game as parry heavy as Sekiro?

Yep. I'd say it's just as essential in this game as Sekiro.

That's unfortunate. I didn't like the deflect oriented combat system in Sekiro much. Highly prefer offense and mobility, of course some parry options like in Nioh or Bloodborne are fine.
