Story

One thousand years have passed since four kingdoms within the Continent of Elyos aligned with one another in war, along with the backing of heroes from other worlds, to seal away the powerful scourge that is the Fell Dragon. The strength of the seal has dwindled in time, and the Fell Dragon is about to reawaken. Alear, successor of the Divine Dragon, awakens from a thousand year slumber and aims to fulfill a quest unlike any other; determined to procure the twelve Emblem Rings and bring peace back to the Continent of Elyos.

Game Informer:
Engage's characters and social systems never quite hit the high bar set by Three Houses, but it does surpass its predecessor in almost every other way. Players looking for deep customization, expertly crafted strategy RPG combat, and a heartfelt story with adoration for more than 30 years of Fire Emblem history will find that and more in Engage. It's one of the most gripping games I've played on Switch and, ultimately, one I struggled to peel myself away from. If Three Houses was an experiment with where Fire Emblem's social mechanics can go, then Engage is doing the same for the series' evolving combat, and excelling just as much, too.

IGN: Fire Emblem Engage proves itself worthy enough to be counted alongside the legacy it honors so well.

God Is A Geek: Fire Emblem Engage is a masterpiece of tactical gameplay design, with a gorgeous look, and depth most games can only dream of.

Picking this up tomorrow. I didn't finish 3H because the school stuff started to bore me too much. I haven't played any of the prior FE games.

Hope everyone enjoys it tomorrow. Amazon isn't scheduled to deliver it to me until Tuesday.
Last week I moved all my preorders from Amazon to Best Buy in store. Every Amazon preorder now shows 4 days after release date. I don't mind that on a Tuesday release, but with most stuff coming out on Friday now it misses the weekend.

I don't have too much of a choice here, it was a gift card purchase. Either way, I've been playing an indie game for a while that I'll try to finish over the weekend. I'm not too bothered, but I do find it odd that they apparently don't do release day delivery any more.

Q&A with some of the developers who have worked on Fire Emblem Engage. These articles are kind of fun to read, they'll usually give the player a better glimpse into the game and sometimes you'll even receive in-depth insight about these games depending on who's speaking

So far, I'm really liking this game, but the characters that I've run into have been a bit disappointing. I really hope that this deal where you are the god that everyone worships ends. Its pretty annoying.

I loved Triangle Strategy, I'd imagine I'm halfway through it but got distracted with other stuff. As much as I want FE: Engage I'll probably wait until Triangle Strategy is completed
That was my problem with Triangle Strategy. I loved it, but I got distracted by a bunch of stuff and unfortunately never went back to it. I keep meaning to, but never quite manage.

Over time, those rings get dirty, and you can clean them for more bond for that rings character, which in turn opens up more skills in use & inherit
...and yeah, you can overclean them

Don't know if this is controversial to say, but I think Chapter 21 is a good map. For once they made a map where taking it slow actually screws you over, it's the first non-DLC map where I ran out of Time Crystal charges and had to start over.

I'm not even mad tbh, I should've thought something was up with the reinforcements, instead my reaction to the first 16 unit spawn in was "Doesn't matter I can take them out in a few turns". The next turn another 16 units spawn in "Huh... I mean that's a lot but I think that's still doable...". The next turn another 16 units spawn in "... oh... huh... " I had to spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how I was gonna get everybody to Veyle without any deaths. Found out you can't go back more than 5 turns (?) I survived around 5 turns of 16 enemy spawns and took out quite few but eventually everybody got surrounded and Lapis and Yunaka were doing a good job of dodge tanking all the wyvern riders, but mages and snipers were closing in on them. Tried to go back to a point that could be more manageable but no luck. Probably spent 3 hours on that attempt. Next time around I just went after Veyle and ignored reinforcements and it went well, even got the legendary knife off the thief.

I actually had a lot of fun both times. The music for this was really good to, especially for fighting Veyle, it's good at giving the player the feeling that they need to hurry up as the situation grows more dire.

I'm gonna assume that everybody else hated the map due to the reinforcements though, which is fair I can see it stressing people out.

There's a pretty nifty set of Fire Emblem pins on the Nintendo Rewards page for 700 Platinum Points

Was thinking about getting them if they restock, they look nice. Nothing amazing but they look good

I can't tell if that's Ike or not on the third row very last character to the right though. Sort of looks like him

Getting ready to buy the Switch Voucher as a gift and this is my #1 choice aside from TotK. The only other option on my mind was Skyward Sword which I've never played..... would the folks who played Engage recommend it? I really liked 3houses and have been playing FE games back to the DS if that helps

I haven't completed the game yet but I have put in around 190 hours, also I've only started playing Fire Emblem games since Awakening.

With that said, if you're looking for good gameplay then this is probably the best game so far. Very good maps and mechanics, this is better than Fates: Conquest imo. They give out some insanely powerful tools but I feel the game does a good job at keeping things balanced. Decent challenge, very fun. They also bring back maps from all previous games as bonus missions. Something that some folks see as a positive is that their's less downtime between maps. I usually only have about 5-20 minutes of stuff I do after battles compared to the 1 hour minimum of stuff in Three Houses.

If you're looking for a good world/characters like Three Houses, it's very disappointing. Characters quite often are one note and unlike Three Houses you only really have that first impression since they don't appear in any cutscenes outside of the one they get introduced in nor do they have any input on the main story. Not to say the characters are complete poo their's actually quite a few fun and interesting ones, it's just a lot of them are more Awakening tier(perhaps less...). The main story itself is kind of hilarious to me tbh, theirs been a couple of scenes where I just started laughing because of how ridiculous it is and I don't think it's intentional but their's an air of self awareness I feel.

I think it's worth it for the gameplay, like this is a really fun game, but if you're hoping for something like Three Houses, then you'll be disappointed with this.

Edit: Forgot to quote @Hinedorf
