Thread: Phil Spencer claims PlayStation wants to grow ‘by making Xbox smaller’
Is this satire? You don't honestly think this do you?

I mean I kinda do think you believe this but I want to hear you confirm it.
How is it better? This year? Slightly better. Last year? Horizon and Ratchet, wow? Meanwhile MS had Psychonauts 2, Forza 5 and Halo. Where do you see the big difference?

They Stole apples window idea for crying out loud.
Their One of the reasons segas not around anymore.
Their latest operating system has become complete trash with the tpm "PrIVAcy" chip and their consoles have nothing of value.

screw both these companies gaming was way better before the 3 console monopoly. Back in the day there were a ton of video game console makers now we only get 3. Screw nintendos monopolistic track record as well. Video game companies should be making consoles not tv some boombox maker.
Honestly, ascending to the Linux master race is the only sensible option at this point.

Sony is still making good games as far as I'm concerned (for how long remains to be seen) but they are getting on my nerves with how they take PlayStation players for granted (the irony is that their read is probably correct given the market response).

everyones making decent games nobodys making good games anymore. I have seen some games that are good from sony but nothing outstanding. Xbox is alright and nintendo is kinda alright not at their best atm. The good stuff is all 3rd party anyways.

To be fair thats mostly subjective. While I think Horizon is garbage. Some people think its the best game ever. Graphically its great looking, otherwise its an Ubisoft style open world game.

Playing through GoW:R right now and its not a whole lot different from the last one. The same animation for dying no matter how you get killed feels cheap af tho. The goty cries really make no sense to me so far.

true nintendo did release dread a year ago and xenoblade 3 came out recently. I haven't liked the way botw was with its open world feel. I found it uninteresting tbh and the mario games aren't exactly great as of late. xenoblade 2 also felt very rushed when I played it and Oddysey felt more like galaxy 3 but was named it something different. I have seen people who really like those games though. Their decent games but one of them is definitely not a quality game lol.

I mean there's people who religiously play shit like fortnite and among us for example lol. I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the gamecube. Still seeing Mario or Zelda brings back the nostalgia of the old games for me tho.

Microsoft needs to get someone who knows how to micromanage these studios better after the 343 mess with Infinite imo. They can buy every absolute dev studio, sony, and Nintendo but if they can't get their shit together we'll still be in the same boat.

Look at the guy who ran Xbox (into the ground) before him. No one wants to go back to cableboxTVkinectimals.
All i care about are games and Phil Spencer has been in charge of that since 2008 and has done a terrible job. You can't keep blaming Don Mattrick forever.

I disagree Sony is still consistently outputing some bangers and is pretty much the best AAA publisher by a wide margin.

What are these third party publihsers you think are doing such a great job?

For me, as a primarily PC gamer who hasn't owned an Xbox console since the 360 and will probably never buy another one, I think Phil Spencer is pretty damn awesome thanks to Game Pass alone. It's a great service for the money.

I don't value gamepass that much, gamepass, PS+, whatever, if games are good I'm willing to pay for them, I don't value paying cheap for game I don't want to play. I want to want to pay $70.

I'd rather them be in the same boat. My fantasy is more like what we had with the 16 bit era where there was a ton of consoles to choose from or make it more like pc where there's multiple store fronts. I'd also rather get rid of the two tech giants like sony and microsoft. I believe their stifling competition especially microsoft and its track record.

you are about to argue with a random manchild on the internet named snes nes about who makes better video games. Please find something better to do.

Ok, kinda lame that you are not even willing to name them.

I agree they kinda are. Both are playing it safe with mostly just sequels and timed exclusive bullshit. Indies have been more innovative imo.

But other than Sega making a console, I can't really say i trust anyone else to jump into gaming.

PS+ kinda sucks for sure, but being able to spend like $120 a year to get indefinite access to all Xbox Games Studios games and a bunch of third party stuff on launch day is easily the best deal in gaming if you ask me. I don't really care about "owning" game licenses much these days and physical media is basically meaningless outside of Switch.

I honestly don't see that much of a diference between PS+ and Gamepass. Both PS+ Essencial and Extra are pretty good in comparison to Gamepass while Premium is pure shit.

Things like playing indie games on release have zero value to me, because there are very few if any indie games at this point that I'm intrested in playing day one. All of them will have been availiable for peanut by the time I get to them.

Playing most AAA games on release also has very little value to me (not that gamepass has that) because there are very few AAA games each year that I'll want to play on release (or at all).

You probably aren't looking, then.

Here's a massive difference: I had to spend $70 to play God of War at release even though I'm subscribed to PS+ Premium. I wouldn't have had to do that with Game Pass.

Games that are multiple months old like Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part I are still not on the service.

But Gamepass doesn't have God of War, that's the point, even with all the games you had on Gamepass you were still willing to pay $70 to play God of War, why?

Horizon Forbidden West, TLoU Part I, etc, will all be on PS+ before MS gets to release any significant number of games on that level. Just like it happened with Demon's Souls, Returnal, Miles Morales, GoT, FFVIIR Intergrade, Death Stranding DC, etc, sure it took a long time for them to get to PS+ but they are far better than the AAA stuff MS had.

If you've been paying Gamepass since it released in 2017 what are the AAA bangers you played on release?

idk I'd love for sega to come back just doesn't seem like it'll happen until the ceo steps down. That guy was very arrogant. Another one could be snk. They had a pretty cool console back in the day with tons of arcade games on it. I think I heard something about them wanting to make a console but I think that'd be fake news since the company has gone bankrupt like 3 times over. Maybe EA or ubisoft? that'd be a absolute joke.

You're just talking about library preference at this point and that's not an argument I'm interested in having. If you like what's offered by Microsoft on Game Pass and what they have cooking for their first party titles, then Game Pass is absolutely a fantastic deal. For people like me who prefer gaming on PC, it's also a great option to not have to buy their console.

If you like Sony's games and do not like what Microsoft is offering, then you really have no choice in the matter anyway and this discussion is pointless.

As someone who enjoys a bit of everything, I vastly prefer Microsoft's approach. I understand why Sony isn't doing exactly the same thing, though.

But Sony is releasing their games on PC...

It's not a flaw in my argument that the games I'm intrested in playing are not on Gamepass, that's the entire point.

OK...

Hypothetically speaking, if there were 3rd party games that did interest you releasing day and date on Game Pass but not PS+, that would make Game Pass look like a better deal to you, right?

Yes. But that has hardly ever happened in the last 5 years, just like with IGC I hardly ever got a game I wanted. What's the can't miss big third party game that released on Gamepass?

Let's say if FFXVI, GT6 or Armored Core VI release on Gamepass day one, then they'll have convinced me to use one of the trials MS is constatly giving away and just play it for $1 (of pay for a month or two if they finally put an end to the promo that so far has always been up).

I already had gamepass multiple times over the years, I at least gave a shot to pretty much all AAA games MS released over that period. I already played most of what is in there that intrests me and what they add each month is not worth being a subscriber at for me at all.

But lets say I had never played a single game that is in Gamepass or PS+ Extra, then PS+ would be even more worth it to me because I rather play Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, FFVIIR, Bloodborne, God of War, etc, than what's in Gamepass.

Ultimately it all comes down to the promise that games will come at some point and that hasn't happened consistently in a long time for Xbox (if ever). Will it finally happen in 2023, will it happen in 2024? Probably not.

To me is pretty obvious that if game subscriptions end up being the main way people pay for their games they'll just end up producing a bunch of games that are not for me. The exact same thing happened with movies already.

Yeah, fair enough. I'm also not a huge fan of Microsoft's first party output for, well, the last decade. Lots of people out there who love Halo, Gears, and Forza, though, so more power to them I suppose.
