They weren't lying when they said they have a lot of rats. Wanted to capture that in a screenshot, but they do a smart trick to only render the ones in sight for performance reasons, so photo mode won"t show any rats outside of your initial in game view.

Yeah, there's a veritable rat tsunami at one part in the game.

I just made it to Chapter X last night and the story is really getting quite interesting.

Is this buggy and unoptimized?

Should I bother with 2070S?

It's not buggy, I didn't encounter any bug so far. Very good looking game and will run good on your 2070S. Especially with DLSS, you can easily get 60fps at 1440p with pretty high settings and the game looking gorgeous.

According to benchmarks, on Ultra settings and 1440p the 2070S does 40fps on average. Add DLSS and go from ultra to high, win.

Absolutely worth it with the card.

Slowly making my way through the game, enjoying it a lot. It has a certain pre-rendered quality to it at time, walking through the rain soaked butcher district. Their post processing is impressive and the game is a real looker.

No wonder it runs at 30fps on consoles.

Yeah, it's extremely impressive throughout. Really curious what ray tracing will bring to the table...

I just reached chapter XII last night and I think I'm nearing the end of the adventure.

Same here and I'm sad because I'm really loving this game and I want it to go on much longer. It's really a joy to play on the Series X and I'm sure it's even much better on a beefy PC.

Just reached chapter 11.

Unfortunately, what really makes the game mid is the extreme repetition. Throughout the game, you keep doing the same. And I don't mean it in a reductive way, I mean it literally. It's just one long slog. I can totally see how reviewers realized that more than gamers who can take their time.

The graphics are fantastic and most of the gameplay feels good, too. I just wish it wasn't so samey beginning to end. I'm talking about Amicia, too. Honestly, fuck Amicia, she and Hugo are the villains imo.

Damn the vegetation is so nice and detailed. I'm so slow because I spend too much time in photo mode looking at the environments :D It has groundz!

Just finished it... I think there might me at least two ending variations, but man, I really do not like how the story ended. Nihilistic garbage that made the whole journey feel pointless. Maybe that's what they were going for? I don't know, but I don't like it.

Overall, it's a beautiful game worth seeing, but I come away from it extremely disappointed. Even aside from the ending, I feel like the gameplay was tighter in the first game and the overall setting and story was much more interesting and satisfying.

After really enjoying the first game, I came in with high expectations and was really looking forward to seeing where they went with the story, but fuck, now I feel as if I've completely wasted my time even caring about this franchise. Asobo are obviously immensely talented and have good writers, but I'm perplexed and a little angry right now that this is how they chose to end their story after building up people's interest and anticipation for years.

Played some more of it yesterday, this time on my new OLED. Put it into 4k DLSS Balanced, without any of the RTGI reshade stuff. Looked really sharp and good, nice colors and balance. I think my previous negative HDR experience was caused by my bad Nano Cell LG that I used before.

Either way, one thing soured me a bit on the game. I feared that they'll give her the Tomb Raider mass murderer treatment, and there was a scene where Amicia went into a ridiculous rage. Killing like 10 soldiers with her slingshot, shouting how she's now making the rules etc. It was embarrassing and very bad. At least it was only a short section as she got captured by giga armor Chad.

Lmao I loved that bit 😆. You can only push someone so far.

Early in but I also agree with @FactsAreDead, it feels like I'm playing the villans. How many people are dead because of Hugo in the opening hours alone. We're doing all this for one person, but how many families have we indirectly destroyed by brining him where we have. Reminds me of Ellie wanting Revenge at any cost, but on a much worse scale.

Sure, but it was done pretty badly imo.

The thing with being the bad guys is true and done on purpose. I like that angle.

I'm not far enough in for it to appear self aware (no one has challenged her yet).

I mean they very clearly talk about it when the plague breaks out again in the beginning, how it's their fault, how so many people die because of them, how they should've never come etc.

Regarding that rage scene, Amicia was 15 in Innocence and Requiem takes place 6 months after the first game. So she's 16 at best. A 16yo girl with a slingshot killing like ten angry soldiers in direct combat is ridiculous, combined with the dialogue, I found that pretty cringe.

Still liking the game a lot so far and it's damn beautiful!

Eh,
not nearly enough, do. It's ignored for most of the middle part of the game, and Amicia, all the way to the end, still puts Hugo above everyone else. Annoyed me especially because of how she took Lucas' help for granted, the guy is a little boy himself, yet Amicia never treats him like it, instead like naturally expectes him to aid her and sacrifize himself for Hugo, too. And the piles of dead people REALLY pile up to the sky. Fuck, the island was full of children ...

Hmm that just felt like a bit of hand waiving to me rather than seriously making us consider the consequences of their actions. I'm hoping it's a thread that will seriously be picked up later on.

As for her being 16 true, but she's had a lot of experience though her various ordeals. I don't personally find it too contrived.

Yeah they definitely hand wave it like, "oh no this is horrible look at all the suffering we caused! All these children and thousands of dead people! Either way let's get those herbs for Hugo".

Without spoiling everything, that's exactly what pisses me off about how they handled the ending.

That Hugo was actually the real problem/villain was something I've been thinking since the first game and was really curious how they were going to handle his redemption.

I come away massively disappointed.

I waited for this patch because it was too stuttery for me previously (XSX). Game runs fine now, feels liked a locked 40 fps for most of the time. Played the first two chapters, beautiful game.

Great to hear that it's running better now. Yeah it's a real beauty. The quality of the textures, vegetation and the shaders is top notch.

Will jump back into the game this weekend I think. Now that I have my OLED and W11 running, I'll pull off a @Hostile_18 and be playing it on the couch with a controller on my TV.

I'm so far that I'm searching for a way to play with mkb on the couch. I owned a Roccat Sova, but it sucked because it rested on your lap, which made in uncomfortable and not that stable. There's the Coucmaster Cycon 2, which is exactly what I need. But it's a freaking 160 Euro. For some pillows and a plastic desk thing. I'll see what I can do.

Won't play all games on the OLED though, only the ones I can run at 4k. 1440p doesn't look that hot on that big TV.

Yeah I'm lucky my sofa has small tables that attach to the arms.

When I didn't have that I used a laptop stand/table that slid under the sofa.

Alternatively you can set up your controller to control windows via the Steam overlay. Not that practical for browsing the web etc, but for launching games and what not fine.

I'm playing games like Requiem with a controller because it's not really about aiming, so it's fine. But for other games like first or third person shooters, I need mkb. Like Callisto Protocol, wouldn't play that with a controller because I want that fast and precise aim when scary mofos are charging at me.

I'm the opposite, I want that shakey shooting around the head feeling when something jumps out of the shadows 😆

Best looking next-gen adventure game to date. FS2020 still is the #1 next-gen title to date but seeing as though people didn't think that Asobob could make an actual adventure/action game to show off their talents were dead wrong. Played on PC with MAX settings, nothing can match it's extremely detailed displacement textures and layered normal maps. It looks better than UE5's Nanite demo in some areas.

Even some of the smaller alleys in the city look impressive due to the sheer amount of details, really good stuff.

Only thing that bothers me is the lighting, which is incredibly flat and last gen, especially in the interiors. I did some comparison gifs between vanilla and reshade RTGI on the previous page, it shows the floaty and flat nature of the lighting. Which is a bit disappointing.

Character faces are also pretty dead. Still, overall gorgeous game and an impressive achievement by the dev team.

Where you at? Like VFX said above, it's closer to Nanite tech demo once you reach chapter 8/9. :giggle:

Can you show me the comparison with RTGI? I'm curious.

I did multiple, this is one example:

By no means perfect as it's the fake RTGI shader. But it significantly reduces the glowy characters and objects.

Not using it though because it introduces some strong shimmering around certain objects and I decided to go for 4k on my OLED, which doesn't leave me with the resources to use the filter in addition to that.

This is expected and perhaps THE #1 feature that plagues videogames in general. There is simply not enough self-occlusion to introduce shadowing from objects close to each other. That comparison is night and day difference. And what's impressive is that there are some games that don't even have really demanding rendering features but understand the importance of having as much ambient occlusion as possible - Sekiro is one such example.

Until we go to pure RTGI for every game released, we will have to see this "blowout" in lighting - one of the biggest drawbacks to games' graphics to date.

Other than the shimmering, the RTGI shader is pretty impressive. I can even get good performance with it while having a big ray count. You can select half res for it, which has practically no visual impact but significantly increases performance.

Lighting is so important for a game to look coherent and feel grounded. After playing Metro Exodus EE maxed with RT, other games looked pretty damn fake. I didn't recover from that.
