The Last Unicorn is a masterful classic and Schmendrik is THE archetypical sorcerer that I always associate with dungeons and dragons.

Also, the unicorn triggers my furry senses.

It's a shame that this movie will lose to the other dreck. Arrival, srsly?! :/

You posted the wrong the hunt. I thought you'd go with the first thing that comes up on IMDb.

It's The Hunt with Mads Mikkelsen directed by Vinterberg.
Since it was your pick, I'll change the info in a sec. I just went with google search on my end, I'll switch to IMDB next time.
Edit: Its switched now. :)

I guess as a 90s kid I missed movies like the Last Unicorn. Would you say it has a more serious tone? 80s cartoon movies seemed to be a lot more serious than their 90s equivalents which were usually more sing songy.

Bride of Frankenstein. A twisted and macabre comedy, one of the best sequels. A perfect 80s movie that was made in 1930s. Sam Raimi and Tim Burton took everything from it. This was so ahead of it's time. Even music doesn't sound like anything from the era:

It probably won't win because few people seen it but I highly recommend it. It's good:

Absolutely! Lol, it's the kind of cartoon that aired in a time before people acknowledged that cartoons could be for adults, too. It's comparable to "Watership Down", not exactly as brutal, but still very dark. You should absolutely watch it if you have an even passing interest.

I like that description. I'll never fully watch Watership Down after seeing a bit of the burying. Reading about stuff like that in history is enough, I'm not going to watch a movie about it.

Early 80s animated movies are a bit hit and miss for me, when I rewatched the Little Toaster a year ago it was a lot more negative than I remember and was basically the same story as Toy Story 3.

Seeing as we have had a few movies in common, I think that I'll try and see The Last Unicorn in the future if I can. I'll also switch my vote to give it a fighting chance.

While looking into it a bit, I found a bit of trivia. Apparently the animation of The Last Unicorn was outsourced to what would become Studio Ghibli animation studios:

"Here's how it is: Financed in England, produced by Rankin/Bass, American company...but all of the work was being done in Japan, which was a process of Rankin/Bass going to less expensive animators in another country. And they hired –most of the animation was done by a company called Topcraft. And the minute they finished The Last Unicorn, Miyazaki hired them...And in fact, he didn't just hire them, the studio top rep was in financial difficulties, he came in and took them over and bought them up and turned it into Studio Ghibli. So most of the animators and designers who worked on The Last Unicorn, became the core team of Studio Ghibli. And all of those – 'Nausicaa,' 'Kiki,' all of them, the great Miyazaki early movies, were done by many of the same people as who worked on The Last Unicorn."

Wow not a single vote for the Bride.

I guess people are too focused on the three way contest between The Great Escape, Arrival and The Last Unicorn. I did read the storyline of Frankenstein's bride and it did seem a bit grim.

Do you mind if I cross post this on the main thread? Comparing the results to your post there should be lots of fun. I do find it interesting how A bugs life makes it through but not one single comedy.

I bet Pan's Labyrinth and Godfather 2 are going to week next couple of weeks.

I did include a few comedies; Tropic Thunder, Shaun of the Dead and to some extent Evil Dead 2 and Fear and Loathing. A Bug's Life is mostly there because I haven't even heard of the other movies in that round except Tree of Life.

You may well be right. For Saw over Pan's Labyrinth I based it on Texas Chainsaw Massacre being rather popular plus I guess my own bias. Godfather 2 - because it's such an obvious movie I would have expected it to get more than one nomination so that's my hesitation.

Love me some Last Unicorn. When I was a kid I had a VHS Watership Down, The Dark Crystal and The Last Unicorn on it. Good lord did that tape get a lot of play.

The great escape is pretty good, and arrival is decent too. But, sorry the animated adventure gets my vote here.

brap has issues for sure
He's just having a hard time because he's not into one of his famous influencers anymore. I know the feels, its just like when my favourite member of a KPOP girl group leaves and I just don't care that much about that group anymore.

When the last eagle flies
Over the last crumbling mountain
And the last lion roars
At the last dusty fountain

In the shadow of the forest
Though she may be old and worn
They will stare unbelieving
At the Last Unicorn

When the first breath of winter
Throught the flowers is icing
And you look to the north
And a pale moon is rising

And it seems like all is dying
And would leave the world to mourn
In the distance hear her laughter
Of the Last Unicorn

I'm alive, I'm alive

When the last moon is cast
Over the last star of morning
And the future has passed
Without even a last desparate warning

Then look into the sky where through
Through the clouds a path is torn
Look and see her how she sparkles
It's the Last Unicorn

I'm alive, I'm alive

For those who have never seen it. The Last Unicorn is significantly better than you would expect. It's one of those "made for kids" films that has much deeper concepts than the kids ever grasp. Also features a great VO cast!
I'm still amazed they were able to get people like Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, Alan Arkin, Angela Lansbury and Tammy Grimes to voice the characters. Christopher Lee though is no surprise, as he is a HUGE fan of the book and insisted scenes from it be kept intact in the film.

I understand his anguish on that I truly do. K-pop idols are very important people. I can't name one of them but they are of the utmost of importance. I support him as a fellow K-pop Stan let's go brap!
