Isn't basically every Canadian an immigrant?
Is there much difference to the US?
No. I pretty much make the distinction. Settlers built the country, immigrants moved to a country. That's why low immigration white states like Maine, New Hamshire, Vermont and the Atlantic provinces have low crime. Vast majority of its citizens are descendants of the original settlers and have respect for their ancestors' traditions and families bonded over hundreds of years.

Despite what many say about the US and Canada, many in both are at least part native. Assimilation into settlers was far more prevalent than many institutions like to acknowledge. Can't say a family stole land and hold them to the "sins" of their forefathers if they married into it, it's just not good for business if those pesky facts gets in the way.

My friends interviewed another friend who is the chief of an Indian reserve. Was shocking to see the chief to be looking pure white while the interviewers were looking like natives. I still can't understand why the apartheid is still a thing.

This. That's my family's background. The Spanish folk quickly took Native brides from down in Mexico. Which is why I laugh at identity politics. Its all surface level, not real heritage.
