I wish Joe Staten had a crack at more Halo novels. His only full length book was Contact Harvest and he did the short story Shadow of Intent (both were great). I bet a Joe/Nylund back to back every other year release combo would have been great.

Karen Travis was awful. She ruined Nylund's work. I hope she never darkens Halo's doorstep again.
Tobias Buckell has grown on me. I like all of his work in hindsight though I might not have at time of release.
 
I've heard Forerunner stuff was decent. Ghosts of Onyx is probably my favorite of the bunch.
There are a few misc gems scattered in there. Some of the short stories are great.

But most have been forgettable or bad. Brian Reed's influence on the story as a whole almost killed the franchise.
