Thread: Solo Dev Lorenzo Drago Creates Insanely Realistic Demo -【UE5】etchū-daimon station - 越中大門駅

"My latest environment, freely based on a real-life train station in Toyama, Japan.
I'll be uploading breakdown shots soon as well!
I worked on all modeling, texturing, lighting and animation. Foliage is from Quixel Megascans.
The environment is running in Unreal Engine 5, lit with Lumen. I didn't use Nanite, so models are created using the standard low-poly workflow.
For this project, I wanted to get as close to photorealism as possible. I used camera matching to get accurate proportions and made careful use of reference. I adjusted the measurements afterwards to help with modularity.
Aside from detail textures and alphas created from photographs, I created all textures from scratch in Painter and made custom materials in Unreal for use with vertex painting or masks to break up repetition.
To shoot the video, I used real-time VR tracking to emulate a handheld camera and flashlight."

I wonder what they'll try selling us one next after graphics aren't impressive anymore.

That's impressive. Looking forward to an immersive horror game.
Imagine a slow burn Alan Wake/Silent Hill type game like this. I've always imagined a horror game where you're incapacitated somehow, Misery style or something like an injury, and you have to keep your cool and be efficient and clever with your movements. I think it would add to the tension a lot and since it wouldn't need to take place in a huge space/world it would leave the modelers lots of resources to make the environment really shine graphically.

Heck, could you imagine a Mirrors edge with these graphics? Wouldn't even need to model enemies with a game like that, just lots of hazards. Though human enemies would be a bonus I personally think it's gonna be a very long time before realistic, not to mention affordable, character models and animation catch up to what we've been able to achieve with environments so I'm purposefully trying to think of things that would be doable in the near future.
