Thread: Why Hollywood is a black hole

I love this guy's videos. While his channel mainly deals with tech stuff, Paul Chato is also a former network executive who provides insider knowledge as to why Hollywood is such a narcissistic self absorbed woke shithole.

You should also check out his vids regarding such recent disasters like Netflix's Cowboy Bebop:

Plus numerous vids on Amazon's The Rings of Power:

So far I'm liking this guy.

"I hate this shit, well except Tropic Thunder"

Going to have to check out those other videos later.
You know, that's one thing I don't agree with him about. I like movies about Hollywood and moviemaking. Sure it's Hollywood jacking off to themselves but some of those movies I've watched were good. Sunset Boulevard is fantastic. Robert Altman's The Player is a great dark satire on Tinsel Town. The Coen Brothers' Hail Caesar! is a funny sendup of Hollywood in the 50's.

But I do agree with him that Tropic Thunder fucking rules.

He's got a new video explaining the trainwreck that is Star Trek Discovery.

Basically, Discovery is not science fiction. It's a revenge fantasy written by feminazis, SJWs and trans people against straight white men. They want to shit on the legacy of manly characters like James T. Kirk to push their own approved protagonist type.

New vid on Discovery. Talks about the cast's lack of charisma.

Basically, he finds it infuriating that a Star Trek show is peopled with a cast lacking any sort of charisma (or Royal Jelly as he calls it). And Star Trek is a franchise that has a history of charismatic leads played by the likes of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Kate Mulgrew or even Jeri Ryan.

Some of the blame he lays on the casting director picking the wrong people for the roles. Others, on incompetent newbie directors who have no idea on how to frame a shot to make an actor look good onscreen.

Maybe. But what I like about Paul Chato's vids is that he has an insider's insight into how Hollywood works and why they've allowed the woke to run they asylum.

Apologies for the semi derail but Sunset is incredible and actively tells you how poisonous Hollywood is. Easily a top 5 golden age of Hollywood movie and probably my favorite out of all of them. Would be great to see a movie that looked at modern day Hollywood through the same lens.

A little movie with Kevin Bacon called The Big Picture was a fun one that showed some of the shit in Hollywood in a goofy way.

Sorry for the Necro, but I saw this one get listed by The Critical Drinker on Twitter and I thought it was a good watch and worth reviving the thread

The dude is on point with how essentially the whole SJW crowd can't make anything successful themselves (because everything is some designed by committee-level Twitter pleasing messaging affair) but now they're hijacking what was the preserve of the geeks, trying the same shit and then wondering why it's still not working out. It's not that people don't care for their BS, it's that clearly, the fans are toxic.

I listen to a Bill Simmons podcast called The Rewatchables. It's a great listen as they talk about movies we've all seen a million times and go through a whole bunch of categories.

One of these categories is "What's aged the worst." They basically say..."well, this couldn't be said in 2022 or that scene couldn't be done, or the all white cast couldn't exist etc" Even simple films like Dead Poets Society couldn't exist today because there were no blacks in it. Or Can't Buy Me Love, a super harmless teen movie, they said would have problems because they said retard too much and the main character paid for a woman....and she accepted. The horror. It makes you see why so many modern films are boring, safe, non offensive trash.

I tune into the Rewatchables now and then, but one thing I've noticed is that despite hundreds of episodes in the can, they've never covered Alien, Aliens or Blade Runner. Seem like massive oversights on their part. I get the impression Bill Simmons isn't a Sci-fi fan which is why they don't get a look in, but all sorts of mediocre stuff do. But yeah, the WATW segment is very telling.

Yup, he doesn't dig on Sci fi. I'd say anything with Shea Serrano, Kyle Brandt, and Ryan Rusillo are must listens. Very funny. It's just so weird how they love these movies but at the same time say that 50 % of them couldn't be made today. We need the next Scorcese or Tarantino stat.

He doesn't always host, so I'm not sure why someone else hasn't said 'We need to do Aliens' at the very least. Because the absence of that alone is a running joke.

Honestly I think everything is fucked. Problem is, to even get financing to make a film/TV show now you've got to tow the line with so much BS like ESG and DEI that you're basically screwed.

So much lamentable BS coming out that just panders to this box ticking nonsense to the detriment of rhyme or reason. The only legitimate response is to stop
watching it and paying for it.

I'm amazed that Hollywood in recent years is using Twitter as a gauge for what audiences want to watch. Haven't studies shown that only 10% of the population use social media? And most of that 10% are a bunch of SJW cunts who hate everything.

Whatever happened to putting in some hard work and doing market research as to what the general audience wants? Or are Hollywood execs too lazy to do shit like that?

Love how he notes the differences between Manchildren and SJWs, and how the Star Wars under George Lucas was still imaginative compared to the dreck Disney has put out, with the exception of The Mandalorian.

And he's right. The previous generation of manchildren has had their time in the sun. It'll take a new generation of them to break Hollywood out of it's woke phase.

Something new from Chato. A Better Late Than Never Review on Ghostbusters 2016.

He states in the beginning that he's not going to review the film based on it's story, plot and direction. Rather, he's going the examine the reasons the film failed, despite having a number of factors in it's favor. Some points he makes:

- The film was the first example of using outrage marketing attacking fans which seems to be all the rage today.
- It completely misses the point of the original film, which was having a bunch of nerdy working class schlubs be our heroes
- It doesn't follow up on a lot it's plot points for comedic potential, leaving them hanging.

There's more in the video, and offers a lot of fresh insight that a lot of reviews of Ghostbusters 2016 don't.
