Activision-Blizzard made more money from microtransactions in 2021 than it ever has before.

2021 was Activision-Blizzard's best year ever. The company delivered all-time highs in net revenues ($8.804 billion), operating income ($3.62 billion), and a whopping $2.7 billion in net income. Last year also delivered a bounty in microtransaction cash.

The company generated a staggering $5.1 billion from in-game purchases across its live service titles, which includes DLC, World of Warcraft subscriptions, and of course lootboxes and cosmetics. These purchases made up 61% of Activision-Blizzard's total $8.354 billion net bookings.

The record was achieved even as sales from Call of Duty Vanguard dropped. Despite the sales miss, the Activision segment delivered its second-best revenues of all time.

Can't help but think gaming, or gamers to be more precise are fucked. Really want to be wrong on this.

This is why live service gaming is the future of gaming whether you like it or not. The rare single player games will become even more rare…. Not saying this is a good thing.

Better find a live service game you like and accept the ass raping the industry will give you.

I bought almost every battle pass and a ton of CoD points for Cold War last year. Best CoD since the original Blops. SBMM has absolutely no detriment unless you are a pro player.

Skipped Vanguard but will do the same for MW2. Activision deserves to be rewarded for getting away from the Sci Fi advanced movement shooters.

I have yet to buy into any micro transactions unless you consider DLC part of that .
I don't touch dlc and im a skin whore but only for my main game at the moment. Gears 3 > Smite > Valorant.

I feel the whoreishness justifies the amount of time I play the game and supports the devs that deliver great content.

What I will never understand is the gotcha micro transactions like loot boxes and mobile games that are literally pay to win.

Or just play old games. There's enough out there to keep us all going for a long time. Just buy the good games when they do come out.

Lol. SBMM has killed 6 v 6. If you don't have cross play enabled you'll be sat in a lobby for 15 mins. Turns out players don't enjoy a system that punishes you for doing well in a CASUAL GAME MODE. Who could have seen that coming.
