Does anyone else have RE4 VR on the Quest 2? This shit is really awesome and I'm liking everything about it except one thing. It gets confused and pressing forward on the analog stick moves me sideways or diagonally.

edit - ok I googled it and apparently whatever direction you are looking in when you press forward on the analog stick, that is what the game will consider forward. So if you look around while you are walking/running and moving around, the direction for forward gets completely confused and suddenly pressing up on the joystick moves you sideways.

There's some oculus dev on reddit talking about it, but that was 2 months ago so I guess I'll just live with it lol. Capcom ain't patching that haha.

It's one of the interesting things about vr, the rules aren't settled yet, that's what makes it such an exciting and experimental space.

Considering this issue for instance - forward should probably relate to where your legs are pointing (and realistically that's likely to be the same as your torso) but we don't have any way to know that. Some devs might decide that the direction you're facing is the best choice as that allows for using standard controllers but other developers might take the view that one can infer from the position and direction of the hand controllers instead, but of course that would require a fallback to the head direction where hand controllers aren't present so maybe devs don't want to do the work twice.

The business of inferring direction based on hand position isn't wholly straightforward either if for instance you're using one hand to shoot or interacting with an object. It's complicated stuff.

God damn, the Quest 2 does a really good job with VR porn lol

If you have ever gotten the really nice high quality stuff, it's so damn crystal clear on this screen. I tried out a 28gb video the other day. Just for research purposes, of course. I'd never jerk off to porn or anything.

The thing with VR porn is it just seems it'd be unsanitary, given you'd have spunk on your hands as you try to remove the headset, and of course the nightmare risk of being found cock in hand with a headset on - people can sneak up on you when you've got VR on. Absolutely no fucking way.

Yeah I imagine it could be an awkward cleanup (imagine because of course I've never done such a thing!) lol. But what do you use? Phone? PC? Magazines? Phone sex hot line?

One of your hands is holding/using/touching an object during and after that process. Your spunk hand had to close the 18 trannysurpise.com tabs in chrome.

A sensible person uses a desktop PC and a cheap mouse for starting and stopping the porn - cheap so it can be easily replaced if the spunk encrusts too much. But back to the bigger issue.. people sneaking up on you, cock in hand, headset on...

Why would I use my spunk hand to close the tabs and not my non-spunk hand?

I like to keep an old cum sock covering the mouse. When it starts growing fungus, just replace the sock!

Exactly! Which is how you'd take the headset off. Which I am only assuming, since I would never have tried such a thing. And for fears of someone walking in, there's an easy solution to that. You get a custom car cover made. On it, you use a photo of yourself browsing the web, not jerking off with a box strapped to your face. You just jerk off under that. So when someone barges in, they just see you doing nothing wrong.

You should sell this on Etsy. I mean, for those of us who are interested in the science of it all. Not to use, of course. We/I'd never do that.

Wtf have I walked into 👀

Half Life Alxy has convinced me to go all in. Got these two accessories;

KIWI design Upgraded Elite Strap for Oculus/Meta Quest 2 Accessories Head Strap for Enhanced Support and Comfort in VR https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B098JTDPQC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_273C7GE17GD3RDDKFFT8

AMVR Resilient VR Facial Vent Soft Interface Bracket & Anti-Leakage Light PU Leather Foam Face Cover Replacement Pad Custom Comfort Accessories 7-Piece Set for Oculus Quest 2 (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08ZMYF...abc_BQPY1QC0Q16DBGCSXVH4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The head Strap because it's alot more comfortable. The covers because it's alot thinner bringing my eyes closer to the lenses and so increasing my FOV. Seriously try it yourself take off the default cover and see how much better it is (or if yoy don't want to do that put pressure on the foam to bring it closer to your eyes. Far more immersive.

I might have to get both of those. The quest is great and there's a ton of awesome design decisions on it, but they definitely cheaped out where they could to get its very competitive price point.

The strap it comes with and the rubber face shield makes it quite uncomfortable to wear, especially coming from PSVR. So those two things might help solve that already plus blocking out more light.

If you do mate order the strap direct as its half that price with 30% off code on their site. I'll post my impressions when they come. I totally understand the compromises the set made to get it at that price point. It's really nice it's so modular and easy to swap parts out.

I went ahead and grabbed Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein on Steam because they were $1.50 each and have Quest mods. The games run natively on the Quest, too!

You basically just install the mod, start it up, then copy and paste some files from the PC version onto the Quest and boom, VR versions of the games.

Part of me just wanted to see the difference between the official PSVR release of Doom 3 and what one guy in his basement could do unofficially. And huge fucking shocker - the guy in his basement made a VR mod that doesn't have weird shrunken heads and improper body proportions and the shit on the walls can actually be read. That was just in the first 3 minutes or so of checking it out. Not to mention full control of both hands and joysticks on the controllers.

Yeah Minecraft is another one that's better with unofficial mods rather than the official vr. It goes that way sometimes. Quake in VR via mods is legit awesome/terrifying.

Damn, I should try Quake lol

And yeah Minecraft is such a shame. That damn Bedrock version has bugs on PSVR that go back over a year. Nothing ever gets fixed. It launched with an inventory that worked fine, then they broke it like 2 months later with a patch, and it's been broken ever since. Pretty pathetic. And then you compare that to unofficial old Vivecraft...

Hell, the non-VR PS4 Bedrock version has a bug when you use mouse and keyboard that's been there for like a year and a half. A single guy could fix it during his lunch break. But they don't give a fuck.

Corporate slopey shoulders. When the dev team gets too big stuff becomes someone else's problem, or worse someone else's specialisation.

I'm not sure if I should get a PSVR2 or wait for the new Quest(s) now. Decisions!

I really really want to play Alyx the most though, how likely is that to be coming for PSVR2/PS5?

I guess it's possible, but I wouldn't be holding my breath. Though there's a little hope, I think I recall Gabe making comments about Valve having "a console strategy" at some point last year whatever that means.

I kept hoping Sony was going to do an actual big reveal of the PSVR2 where they show the damn thing and tell us what games are going to be available when it launches. It still might happen, but look at how the only thing we know about is a Horizon standalone VR game.

I expected them to say some shit like there's a Resident Evil 8 VR update day 1, a full PS5 version of No Man's Sky, shit like that. A big list of relatively simple things you could realistically expect on day 1 alongside full new games made just for it. And yeah, Half-Life Alyx should definitely be a game that gets ported over. Valve has to see the sales potential there.

What is everyone's top 5 VR games? Here's mine so far;

1: Half-life Alyx (PC)
2: Rush of Blood (PSVR)
3: Astrobot (PSVR)
4: Walkabout Mini Golf (Quest/PC)
5: Resident Evil 4 (Quest)

I finally jumped into VR this past holiday with the Quest 2, which was promptly hooked up to my PC (wireless using Virtual Desktop) to play Alyx. Amazing. So good.

Also, I find everything much more intense in VR. Even just normal Combine grunts in HL2 didn't bother me in the slightest before, but in VR they're my size and in my face, which changes everything. And of course creeping around headcrab zombies in the dark is incredible.

Interesting, I need to look into these. The thing is way too heavy on my face, and this is the first time I've heard of optimizing the visible FOV by adjusting the cover.

The AMVR facial interface came and the screen was so much better for me. Its hard to talk in absolute terms with different head shapes etc but it was alot less like looking through goggles. Unfortunately the padding extended too long and puts pressure on the nose so it went back. I believe this one is the best one to order now (and it just came back in stock today); https://eu.vrcover.com/products/fit...-foam-set-for-oculus™-quest-2-dark-grey-black

Head strap wise it looks like there's two clear winners. The Kiwi Upgraded Elite Strap or the Bobo VRM2. I went with the Kiwi but its still not here yet, though got it at half price compared to UK Amazon, so i don't mind.

No shit, one of my favorite VR games still to this day is Fantastic Contraption. It just hit me the right way at the right time.

RE7 may be #1. It came out just a few months after PSVR released and was fucking incredible. It was the most impressed with a new gaming technology I could remember feeling since Mario 64 when I was 14 lol.

The Kiwi Elite upgraded headstrap came today. It's so much better. Feels like I'm closer to the screen with with no face pressure which is a little odd, I think the weight is just more evenly distributed. Anyways I hereby declare it a crime for one to be left with the stock strap. @Grinchy this is your advanced warning before I report you to the VR police! 😄

I haven't had time to play a ton of stuff so far on my Quest 2. But at this point:

1. Eleven Table Tennis - Easily the most immersive thing I've played thus far, and the physics are very well done.
2. Golf+ - This has a LOT of room for improvement and there's some very basic stuff it fucks up, but also very immersive.
3. Vader Immortal - The 'experience' is kind of minimal but visuals are impressive and Vader is very imposing in VR.
4. Beat Saber - I used to be big on Guitar Hero / Rock Band and this scratches that itch. The sound track overall is an absolute dumpster fire though.
5. I Expect You to Die - Big Bond fan, some clever stuff in here, fun game.

Honorable Mentions:
Star Wars Squadrons - I struggle a bit with motion sickness on this one but I'm building up a tolerance slowly.
Myst - I've played Myst too many times prior to VR to put the time in to beat it again, but the 10 year old me is gobsmacked actually BEING in these places.

I still need to play Alyx at some point. Might fire up Obduction (Myst creators) as well, I had it from the kickstarter but I believe I never finished it.

Yeah going back to games you loved earlier in life and BEING there is a hell of a trip. Can't find a video (I made one ages ago but got a load of grief on twitter and binned the youtube) of the VR version but Damocles scratches that itch for me. Yep, a VR version of an old Atari ST / Amiga game. Incredible stuff.

Was at http://mercenary.eversberg.eu/ but I'm struggling to get it to work at the moment. I've got the files somewhere if need be though. See also http://mercenarysite.free.fr/mreloaded.htm for more info about the project.
