Full disclosure here, I've never played League of Legends nor do I know shit about it's lore and characters. I went into this series a complete newbie as I was curious about it after the accolades it was receiving.
Being this is an animated show based on a videogame, I expected at best a meh adaptation at best and complete crap at worst. But this show surprised me, and what I got was:
- Gorgeous 3D animation with a painted cel shaded style that makes it look like a animated Impressionist painting.
- A fantasy setting with impressive world building and a distinct visual style.
- A compelling story of two sisters through fate and circumstance end up becoming enemies.
- Interesting characters who don't neatly fall into the boxes of Good and Evil. Heroes at times are flawed and sometimes do terrible things, while Villains are sympathetic and can show kindness at times.
I was completely blown away by how good this show turned out to be. Riot Games really knocked it out of the park by hiring the right people to make this, unlike say, Blizzard with the boring as hell Warcraft movie. I breezed through the first 6 episodes on Netflix and look forward to the rest.
