So, I'm keeping a running log of 2023 feature film releases and what order I'd put them in as the year progresses, not sure if anyone else here does this but if you do, here's the thread for it!

Personally, my OCD won't let me put movies as 2023 feature film releases unless Letterboxd.com specifically lists them as being from that date, so even if something hit theaters tomorrow but was listed on Letterboxd as 2022 due to film festival runs in 2022 I wouldn't include it, your own personal list/thoughts can be whatever you want, however.

I'll show you guys my 2023 so far to start with...

2023.png

1. Evil Dead Rise - 5/5
2. Scream VI - 4.5/5
3. Renfield - 4/5
4. The Covenant - 4/5
5. Cocaine Bear - 3/5
6. The Pope's Exorcist - 3/5
7. 65 - 3/5
8. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - 3/5
9. Shazam! Fury of the Gods - 2/5
10. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - 1/5
11. Knock at the Cabin - 0.5/5
12. The Super Mario Bros. Movie - 0.5/5
13. Plane - 0.5/5

Scores are sort of relative, like if I watched 3,000 films in a single year maybe Plane suddenly isn't 0.5/5 (same with the two films above it) because the bar gets lowered so much further... but I didn't. I got to 13 without any theater trips (due to anxiety issues I no longer go to theaters at all) so I'm hoping I'm not the only one who can provide a list already? Remember this is just so far, and initial impressions, we all understand new viewings and dwelling on the first viewing can change your mind and more films are to come.

So far I've only watched John Wick Chapter 4 and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and enjoyed both immensely. I'm done with superhero movies after Avengers: Endgame so I haven't any of the new MCU entries or the new Shazam.

John Wick 4 is my most anticipated viewing of the films already released that I have not seen, waiting for its arrival on video.

is there a list of 2023 movies?

Anyway, I also have't seen many I want to watch, waitig for streaming appearance. I'm gonna watch Quantumania now, will see how that goes, expectations are low.

Jesus revolution looks interesting but not much else looks appealing to me. Demon slayer looks cool

I've got most of the stuff listed in the OP either in my Plex library or on my Radarr watchlist. Though when I'll actually get around to watching something is another matter.

My watched-in-2023-so-far list in date order (most recent first) - courtesy of Tautulli for Plex:

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)

The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
Knock at the Cabin (2023)

Midnight Special (2016)
The Fountain (2006)
Predestination (2014)

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Buffaloed (2020)
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Brick (2006)
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)

Of those, these are the standouts:

Boiling Point (2021)
Mentioned in the "What are you watching?" thread

The Bad Guys (2022)
Great cg-animated caper movie which draws VERY heavily from Lupin III tone and stylings.
Sam Rockwell ❤️

Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre (2023)
Mentioned in the "What are you watching?" thread

All Is Lost (2013)
Robert Redford on a sinking boat. No dialogue.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)
As gripping and compelling as it is harrowing.

Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Great historical dramatization with Matt Damon and Christian Bale waving their dicks around.

We've only seen two movies this year. Watched like 10 minutes of Cocaine Bear and turned it off and saw the D&D movie last night.

Honor Among Thieves was decent, but it just played it too safe for my liking. Just felt like a Marvel movie in the fantasy genre that didn't go hard enough into D&D in jokes. I'd watch a sequel, but they need to have a non-human party member. Enough of the Star Wars diversity of skin color humans ignoring the other species bullshit.

I've seen in theatres this year so far:

John Wick 4 (Fucking awesome.)
Super Mario Bros. (Super enjoyable.)
Sisu (Fun little film outta Finland.)
Fast and Furious 10 (I can't believe they've made 11 of these films so far and they're still stupid and dumb but I love them all the more for it.)

I didnt count Sisu because Letterboxd considered it 2022 😭

Out of those have only seen Plane and Mario

Plane was ace, Gerard Butler is always watchable and this was a good old fashioned action movie

Mario was a decent video game movie. Didn't have anything really modern audience about it and was a good old fashioned family movie and was surprisingly better than expected

Get bored of most stuff now. Turned Dungeons n Dragons and John Wick 4 off after about 20 mins and envy anyone who can enjoy them. Just seems like I've seen it all before but better

Maybe I'm just getting too old for modern movies 🤔

I watched The Bad Seed (1956) this year.. got it from Netflix... I'm going with that... that shit was crazy dark... especially for 1956..

That little bitch was evil...lol It was so dark they did a curtain call at the end of the movie so the audience knew everyone was still alive.

@Explosive Zombie

Youre the first person ive seen who didnt like the Mario movie

Ive yet to see it

What was so bad?

It's not a movie, it's a 90 minute Nintendo commercia with sugary CGI and bad humor.

It is shallow and fan servicy. Sort of like Disney Star Wars. But it's okay for an animated feature set in a universe that never made any sense. Thought it was pretty good. Entertaining and doesn't try to subvert your expectations.
