Something I love about these games is how the gameplay develops with you and the developers aren't afraid to hit you with new concepts deep deep into the game.

When you see those big beasts in the early game you might think you will beat them when you get good but you have no idea how many systems and strategies and mechanics that you'll be drawing on by then.

So satisfying to tie everything together at start beating those huge late/post game enemies.

For me Monolith Soft are a real unsung hero in modern gaming. The original Xenoblade Chronicles then X, then 2 and then 3 including all their various expansions and DLCs is a fantastic run of brilliant games.

Absolutely agree! I would argue Monolith Soft's insane run of:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS (So insane it even works in the first place and arguably an even more impressive feat then getting X to run on a Wii U, or somehow getting X down from 23 GB on Wii U to 13 GB on the Switch with excellent performance. )

Then there is whatever they very likely have planned for the Switch 2, and if pattern holds at least a new mainline Xeno game and Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Definitive Edition.

No unfortunately. That slider was censored even back with the Western Release of the original Wii U release. Though I hear there are ways with the Wii U version...

If it's any consolation, Swimsuits are easier to obtain in Xenoblade X DE now, no more multiplayer grinding needed.

Some 'definitive' edition then.

But this is really just deciding as to whether I make a male or female MC or not. Loved the original on the WiiU, and will definitely be picking this up.
 
Am told the game uses Male/Female! BASED Japanese. The world is healing.
They can't alter Male and Female Gender into Type A/B Shit because there are baked into the quests due to the Japanese language literally not being designed for that degeneracy.

Characters like Elma can and in fact will refer to your MC by the correct gender.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was so ahead of its time it even had protections against the 1984 like forced changing of culture by tranny zealots.

Xenoblade X is in many ways the opposite of the Xenoblade Trilogy. Less focus on story and direct connections to other titles then them, more focus on open world and gameplay that is nearly unmatched by a vast majority of RPGs and games.

Gameplay and world in X were arguably the best in Xenoblade series, a series known for its vast and fascinating worlds even before X was Remastered with massive improvements.

Story of Xenoblade X is universally held to be the weakest of the Xenoblade series with less of a focus, though ending on a cliffhanger did not help at all.

Fortunately X DEs Expansion, comparable in scale and scope to prior Xenoblade game expansions like Future Connect, Torna the Golden Country and Future Redeemed follows up on said cliffhanger with new endgame story, region, characrers and skells.

Yeah it's a spinoff. It's the best Xeno game, though, so don't hold that against it.

Mainline Xenoblade games are a bit narrower and they focus a lot more on the story and cutscenes. Now when I say "narrow", they all have a big map to explore, so it's not like X is the only one with a big map.

Also the main games feel… less "mature" and more typical JRPG full of adolescents saving the world. Kind of put me off, to be honest. X is somewhat guilty but is easier to take seriously, and the lesser emphasis on story means it's not shoved in your face. Tatsu is still annoying… seems like every JRPG has to include an annoying midget animal to piss off the party members.

Xenoblade X is like an offline MMO with more focus on exploring, grinding, and fighting battles instead of story. I swear, all the mainline Xenoblade games have an obnoxious main character, whereas X lets you make your own. and generally the other party members in X are more tolerable and don't seem like lobotomy patients.

I also think X has the best map so far. So if you like exploration I think it's the superior choice. Plus you get a cool mech to explore later which really opens up the map and gives you a wonderful feeling of growth and power.

The games share a lot of similarities of course.

Is the combat more or less the same as other games? I imagine it's different due to the mechs.

Combat is not that wildly different from other Xenoblade games.

There's a class system in X that was built on in Xenoblade 3.

Skells allow you take on very strong enemies.

Familarity, skill and upgrades will eventually allow you to take on strong enemies even on foot if you know what you are doing and are properly equipped.

There are times it's better to go on foot to avoid drawing the ire of big monsters who like bashing big robots. Likewise, there are times it's best to use a skell to traverse an otherwise unreachable area or take on a strong enemy you can't handle on foot.

Lots of variation and approaches.
 
So of the two fantasy franchises directly inspired by Final Fantasy XII and its Gambit System, Dragon Age Origins and Xenoblade Chronicles, (Unicorn Overlord would be third with its own excellent gambit system but alas Vanillaware does not do sequels only remasters.)

Xenoblade Chronicles as a series has definitely aged better when Xenoblade Chronicles X DE is about to be their newest release, vs Dragon Age Veilguard being Biowares newest release.

What a fucking stark contrast.

Dragon Age Origins had a variation of FFXIIs gambit system which allows programing for the party depending on the situation. It was one of several reasons Dragon Age Origins is remembered well by a lot of RPG fans.

Dragon Age immediately gutted the system with Dragon Age 2, and outright ditched the system with Inqusition. Their loss.

Gambit System should have become an actual standard for most RPGs, but guess not, especially when you have shit like Final Fantasy XVI where you don't even control a party. That one stings, especially since I made the OT for that one.

It's honestly the best innovation XCX did and why it's my favorite JRPG (save Chrono Trigger maybe). There's no fake urgent storyline pushing you through pseudo-levels while your "gamer brain" is constantly resisting against it, looking for "side" content. It's the complete reverse in XCX: the entire upfront game is the delicious "side" content and you, at your own pace, push the "main" story along whenever you decide, which is only gated by how much you've already explored. Also actual timed "urgent" things are in sidequests so you don't ever feel railroaded, and you never feel stupid for "picking 3 berries" because that's your actual mission: to explore and map the hostile planet.

Truly an "open world" narrative design.

Monolith Soft likely made it even better than FFXII's Gambit System

People have already found that Xenoblade Chronicles X DE has a hidden 60 FPS option that does not work.

It's 99.999 percent meant for a massive performance boost on the Switch 2.

The question is how much will Nintendo charge for the privilege?
