Thread: What's the new Super Smash Bros. game going to be like?
Any idea of what Nintendo might try to do next with the roster, adventure mode, things to set it apart from and 1up SSBU?

Genuinely have no idea how they are supposed to follow Ultimate.
So many characters and stages and so much content in the story mode.

Maybe they will go back to a smaller roster and try to reinvent the gameplay from scratch.

What do people even want from a Smash Bros game these days?

A dedicated good story mode. Subspace Emissary on Steroids, where you actually go to the differing worlds of the fighters.

Rex/Pyra/Mythra/Nia, Malos/Jin, Noah/Mio and Elma/Cross (default appearances or using your Xenoblade X DE Data.)

Actually, Super Smash Brothers RPG.

Leaning on Nintendo's past behavior in Mario Odyssey and Mario Wonder — where they blend in many different gameplay elements, camera perspectives, player abilities, etc — they could make a really meaty single player experience where each character has several stages to show off their abilities. I don't know what else they could do since the fundamentals are so well established at this point.

I hope they just strip it down to the ground. Shrink down the starting roster (N64 level wouldn't fly but Melee level might), a killer training mode for the "tryhards", solid single player campaign at launch, and drop new characters and at a bi-weekly or monthly cadence for a year then DLC. May be nice for Nintendo to change tack and actually support a tournament scene to help move people over.

It's going to be competing with Ultimate ultimately 🥁🐒, so I think it really needs to differentiate itself. Doing more than Ultimate is just too much an ask. If Sakurai has any "flip the table" concepts for the franchise, now is the time.

Not advocating for it, but could a 3D ssb ever work, similar to Power Stone?

Cause outside of super fleshed out 1 player modes, or a remake of Melee on steroids, not sure how you top Ultimate

They can put out something better than Ultimate. Ultimate has a very lackluster Adventure Mode and the Classic Mode wasn't as good as the original's or Melee's. Here are some of the things I'd do in the next SSB game:

1) Bring back trophies
2) More music, more stages, more characters
3) Characters are all Nintendo characters
4) Adventure Mode that actually offers a story that isn't a complete waste of time

Those are most of the things I'd like to see implemented into the game as well. Besides adding a lot more songs to the official soundtrack, I'd say put together a fun Classic Mode and Adventure Mode with the same level of replay value or better than Melee

Eh. Never really bothered after the Wii U version tbh. Local multiplayer isnt really a thing for me.

Whatever they do, there better be some very modern online implementation

Reimagining classic maps in 3D would be really cool. I don't think they would entirely abandon the core 2D gameplay, though. And switching between 2D and 3D mid-battle would be stupid but it's also a very Nintendo innovation.

After seeing how they handled Bakaru, Kirby FL, and Yoshi's Crafted Whatever, I'd love if GoodFeel partnered up with Sora to make a hypothetical 3D mode (like powerstone )
Kirby was Hal laboratory. But I agree 3D smash would be cool. Would actually get me to buy it ; last smash I bought was brawl.

You're right! Sorry I was thinking of Epic Yarn, but more to the point: Princess Peach Showtime is the other 3rd person action game made by GoodFeel I was thinking of which shows their chops at this kind of game
