Inspired by @Explosive Zombie this is more a focus on a specific year for movies rather than every year.

Highlight your favorite film from that year.

For me, 1999. Absolutely insane year for films. Very difficult for me to pick between the Mummy, Matrix and Iron Giant.

The Mummy
The Matrix
Sleepy Hollow
The Iron Giant
Toy Story 2
Tarzan
The Six Sense
Austin Powers the Spy Who Shagged Me
Office Space
Blast from the Past
Southpark: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
Lake Placid
Deep Blue Sea
The 13th Warrior
And the sheer mega hype leading up to Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

Some other notable films that released that year that I had no interest in but are still mentioned to this day.
American Beauty
American Pie
Fight Club
Blair Witch Project
The Green Mile

For me it's a tossup between 1984 and 1987. Just look at some of these greats:

1984
The Neverending Story
The Terminator
Ghostbusters
Nightmare on Elm Street
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Gremlins
The Karate Kid
Conan the Destroyer
Footloose
Police Academy
Splash
Revenge of the Nerds
Red Dawn
Beverly Hills Cop
Sixteen Candles
Romancing the Stone
This is Spinal Tap
Starman
The Last Starfighter

1987
Predator
Full Metal Jacket
Robocop
Dirty Dancing
Hellraiser
Lethal Weapon
Princess Bride
The Lost Boys
The Running Man
Over the Top
Innerspace
Spaceballs
The Witches of Eastwick
The Untouchables
La Bamba
Good Morning Vietnam
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Harry and the Hendersons
Adventures in Babysitting
Raising Arizona

And, honestly, I can't really choose a favorite. So many amazing movies. Lol

Those "cartoons" like the Iron Giant and Tarzan are still better than a vast amount of what Hollywood has made since. Beauty and the Beast, one of the best cartoons ever made was nominated for Best Picture and Hollywood went out of their way to create a Best Animated Feature category so a good enough cartoon would never risk taking it.

American Pie and Blair Witch never interested me.
Read the summary for Fight Club, did not interest me.

Can't pick a single year, but man the 80's was the best time for horror.
Yup, blows my mind when comparing to the shit we see these days. You're lucky to get one good/memorable movie a year, tbh. Back then? Fuck, a hit was popping off every goddamn month. Sometimes multiple.
