I think either Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild.

Link to the Past is probably a longshot.

Then theres the possibility they attempt to do a original story combining elements of the Zelda series, though with an even higher, frankly insane risk of failure. Don't think they can get away with live action Sonic being set on Earth. Having this be live action is very questionble, considering the animated Mario movies success and release vs its prior live action adaptions infamy.

The live action Zelda movie was announced 2 years ago now, there have been zero updates for casting and production in that entire time frame which is extremely concerning.

Just do a basic good vs evil storyline that the general audience can follow. And keep to the iconic archetypes that each character represents:

Link = The Hero
Zelda = Love Interest + Ally
Ganondorf = The Main Villain

None of this subversion of expectations that modern Hollywood likes to do because they hate the patriarchy. Unlikely going to happen since Nintendo has final say on the movie though.

It's hollywood so it will be some origin story per usual. Doubt it follows any storyline and is an amalgamation of them.

Will be basic. Link gets thrust into a larger conflict he didn't know existed. Gannon is trying to capture all three tri force. Has Power at the onset, before Link can save her Zelda and Wisdom are captured. Thus leaving Link and Gannon in a race for Courage.

Who's doing it? Amazon? Netflix?

If so, then:

Sony Pictures. Avi Arad is producer along with Shigeru Miyamoto. Wes Ball is directing. Literally all we know, old information that was first revealed back when announced in 2023 and nothing since.

Yeah Nintendo going with Sony for their live action Zelda is very ironic.

It'll follow the Mario Bros movie template.

Princess Zelda will be the powerful woman. Link will be the inept hero that will fumble saving the world and Zelda will have to show him how it's done and defeat Ganon at the end.

Also like regawdless posted above, Link will be gay. That's your post credit scene.

This is what I'm prepping for.

Unfortunately I think the same. It's 2025......anything being made for kids is going to have a story that's poor because it's not telling a story about a character but about multiple characters of different race/sex who are equally powerful.

All MEN want is a princess that's sleeping so Link can kill shit, get the master sword, and kill Gannon.

Easiest to adapt would be Breath of the Wild or Ocarina I'd say? Or maybe LTTP.

Could do a One-Piece / Wind Waker / Waterworld style.

One thing - the director Wes Ball has said he is inspired by the works of studio Ghibli and wants to get that regarding the Zelda movie.

Thing is, very few directors in the industry have the power and ability to even attempt that. Biggest example would be James Cameron wanting to adapt Battle Angel Alita for decades, then making it secondary to Avatar and the result being handed off to another director and ending up ok at best.

So Zelda is probably going to be a variant of Breath of the Wild since its by far the most "Ghibli" of the Zelda, and Wind Waker is not quite as stand alone.

Though Wind Waker would be the most insane curveball especially if they reveal the time frozen Hyrule and the events of the past when Link and Tetra go beneath the sea post Tower of the Gods.

Ghibli inspired Legend of Zelda? It could work. Provided he takes the best elements from the Ghibli films which make their films special. Namely, the worldbuilding, the steady deliberate pacing, the lively characters, the easy to follow action, and of course, a childlike sense of wonder. I'm sick and tired of fantasy media nowadays being so dark and grim. I want a fantasy film kids can enjoy along with the adults, much like the best Ghibli films do.

Looking at Wes Ball's resume, I'm not exactly brimming with confidence. He's mainly known for the Maze Runner films, which I never watched, but judging from how nobody really talks about them I'm guessing they were kind of mid. He did direct the recent Planet of the Apes film though which seems to have been a hit, so maybe that's a plus.

Watch the first Maze Runner film, you'll see he can do a dungeon! It's like it was inspired by a Zelda dungeon! 😂

It might be an original story. It's most likely going to deal with Ganon, of course.

I don't know if it's going to be canon to the games and timeline or not, though.

i actually think it will go full original.....that world was open enough that you could do an adventure in different environments....the only thing i think they will introduce or blend is the fairy sidekick from the n64 games as that would be the narrator or spoil fodder

To be perfectly honest this is the only Legend of Zelda movie I will ever need.

Funnily enough, despite the similarities they share and being released one year apart, Legend (1985) had no influence in the creation of the original The Legend of Zelda (1986) according to the creators. Takashi Tezuka, who wrote the script of the first game, says he mainly took inspiration from fantasy books like The Lord of the Rings.

Very possible. But remember Suzanne Collins said she had never heard of Battle Royale and Darren Aronofsky swore he knew nothing of Perfect Blue (despite it being documented that he personally met Satoshi Kon!) People lie. Especially when there is an upside for themselves.

But who knows, it did just always seem like a crazy coincidence that they had such similarities. (maybe Ethan Hawke WAS right!?!?) And its a fantastic film.

Live action is a huge mistake. Should be some kind of CGI.

It should have been 2D animated as a collab with Studio Ghibli. Been saying that for 20 years. Since Princess Mononoke it's been obvious that it's a match made in heaven.

Anything else will likely be methadone at best.

Hayao Miyazaki would never agree to it. He'd only direct the film if he was allowed to put his own spin on The Legend of Zelda and there's no way in Hell Nintendo would agree to those terms. I bet you he'd make Zelda the main character with Link taking a backseat.

That's why i assumed it never happened. It's too obvious to not have been considered. But if the parties were both pig headed, it was almost dead in the water from the start.

I also remember that it had something to do with his living near caves and exploring them. Maybe that was Shigeru Miyamoto who said that but personal experience was involved as well.
