Thread: What Are You Currently Playing? |OT| Gotta play them all

Replayed through Lies of P to give myself a refresher before the DLC drops, it's still my favorite of the Souls clones. Good (if a bit predictable) story, somewhat basic map design but with the occasional From-tier shortcut, and really solid music. But the combat is definitely the highlight, and the fusion of elements from other games (sharpening from Monster Hunter, a stagger system inspired by Sekiro), the elemental de-buff system and parries damaging enemy weapons gives it a really distinct feel that most Soulslikes lack. Also really like the P-Organ and weapon assembly systems and the New Game+ exclusive gear, though I do hope they get expanded by the DLC since they have so much potential to give the game even more replay value. Do highly recommend if you're a patient gamer who enjoys learning enemy move sets and don't mind the occasional difficulty spike from certain bosses.

Thanks for the reminder, I gotta get into this. I liked the demo before it launched but never intended to buy it right away. I had just finished Steelrising and the vibe was too similar, so I waited.

For a game made by a pair of Korean studios whose track records were mostly mobile games, it blew my expectations away. There's some genuinely good twists and turns and I'm pumped to see what their next AAA effort is.

Picked up a copy of Parasite Eve and been playing through that. Used to have this then sold it with my PS1 to some kid over 20 years ago and just really wanted to rebuy it.

Only about 2 hours in and it's as good as I remember it being other than the dialogue being a little silly. The combat system is still fun and engaging.

Ooooh how did I miss that?

Just like Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws has an extra super high-end visuals option that can be activated by using a launch command for the exe.

Looks even better now! It all looks more refined and coherent, and still runs well enough.

Such a shame the direction Square Enix has gone recently. During the SNES & PS1 eras both Square and Enix just couldn't miss, whether it was RPGs or random off-genre games like Einhander, Bushido Blade or ActRaiser, everything they touched was good or great. If you've never played Vagrant Story, its combat is a bit Parasite Eve-inspired but set in a cool gothic world by the creator of Ogre Battle and FF Tactics.

Never played Vagrant Story but I'll have to give it a shot eventually. Always heard good things about it.

Getting a little tired of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Characters side quest arcs are very long. At this point story missions are barely there, but you just do non stop missions with crewmates. There were fewer side quests in first half of the game. Missions aren't bad, well choreographed set pieces like in Mass Effect games, but since characters themselves suck you want to finish their stories quicker.

Yeah those hidden max settings look good in Outlaws... The game itself, increasingly strong females, seems to be a real focus of the team to drive that home. Gameplay wise it's inoffensive, I'm chugging along to enjoy the visuals.

Spent 5 hours with Khazan and i am loving it.

Best combat I've seen in a long while. As good as the best of Souls and Nioh 2.

Smooth framerate, no stuttering (hello @regawdless ), graphics are lovely.

Levels are nothing to write home about so far. Mostly linear, with some branching. Don't expect Dark Souls level quality here.

But the combat is superb.

Look how he's suddenly claiming that there's no stuttering.

I'm playing Wolfenstein 2 now. It's by far the most woke game I've ever played. Within 5 minutes it checks just about every woke box you can imagine as well as some you don't see coming. I suppose it's not as bad as other games, as the makers were clearly up front about their politics rather than trying to be subversive (writers with gender studies degrees think they're much smarter than they really are), but I'm still glad I didn't spend a dime on the game and that it had poor sales.

All of that said, the game looks and performs very well and the gunplay is really fun.

The kids have gotten back into Vampire Survivor pretty hard. They've spent a lot of time on the Among Us content which is hilariously overpowered, but also more tricky in a lot of ways: the map is far more interactive and constrained, with timed buttons you have to press or else a mob of baddies gets summoned, and numerous choke points and dead ends that can screw you over if you aren't paying attention.

All of the game's DLCs feel like proper endgame content compared to the base game, the Contra and Castlevania DLCs in particular have a crazy amount of content for their price. Really interested in seeing what comes next since it's been almost half a year since the Castlevania pack.

I haven't tried the Contra stuff, but I'm excited to. I really liked the little bit of the Castlevania stage I played. Feels several steps above the "basic" maps.

I actually downloaded the contra pack but haven't jumped back in. Thanks for reminding me.

Played a bit of Lair on PS3. A classic Sony exclusive from their peak arrogance period. Looks quite cool even now, but single digit framerates all the way (unplayable on RPCS3). Reminds me of Order 1886, a cutscenes galore, somewhat similar story, rushed and troublesome production.

I played the entirety of it with sixaxis motion controls :ROFLMAO:

I actually kinda liked the game, but could see all of its flaws very clearly. Not one I'd recommend that people rush out to play, but I have a soft spot for it and enjoyed it for what it was.

I'm scared of even trying that. They patched analog controls and cross hair in it and that's how I'm playing. I like the aesthetics of it, might finish unless it gets obnoxiously hard at some point.

I've been trying Cult of the Lamb. I quite like what I have played so far, but I think any longevity I get from this game will depend on quite how it opens up in the actual combat sections. It is promising.

I have also started Wanted-Dead. Wow, this game is definitely a change of pace as far as storytelling is concerned. It is directed in cutscenes like a game from a few generations ago. And that is not a bad thing, but it is very noticeable. It's like they found a game they were working on 15 years ago and decided to bump the resolution x8 and release it. It has it's issues, but I'm kind of liking it so far. It plays well. I'm early days but will play some more.

And speaking of run and gun games that released a few generations ago. I played a little Max Payne. It's the PS2 version on PS5, so definitely not the best way to play. I hate games that default to inverted vertical aim. I turned that off asap. The writing is so good in this game. It hits the perfect spots in dialogue and cut scene lengths. I'd love a proper remaster. Or better yet remake. The original hasn't aged as nicely as you may think, but it is still a classic.

Also playing a little Soul Calibur 6, Rumble Fish 2 and Lumines remaster on the side. Oh and House Flipper 2, I've played about 20 hours of that.

Did a bunch of side quests in Star Wars Outlaws. It's just the most boring, by the numbers unimaginative shit ever.

It was all like:
1. Hear NPCs talk or find some intel. Absolutely boring and forgettable stuff. I did them yesterday and don't even remember one character or story that were involved.

2. It marks a point or area on the map.

3. You drive there and pick a thing up, quest just ends or you need to turn stuff in. Nothing happens to a character, no story changes, you just pick stuff up and get components. Done.

I know these were the first smaller fetch quests. But I spend like 1.5h doing them and there's nothing I remember outside of the locations that I visited. It's a bunch of meaningless low quality low effort content.

Combat isn't good so far, very boring. Sneaking and exploring are ok. It's only the visuals that keep me going at this point, and wanting to see the game opening up more.

So, the game is the equivalent of making love to a beautiful plank, then.

Sounds like Outlaws should have been more linear hub words and in the vein of Tomb Raider/Uncharted instead of open world.

I resumed Rebirth today and reached the Gold Saucer. This place looks really great on the Pro console. I'm still really happy with this game as long as I'm not in the open world loop that they created.

Also played some Street Fighter 6 for the first time in a month or so. And I didn't enjoy it. I have a friend I play with, and I like the competition against him more than the game we are playing. The drive system isn't for me. Fatal Fury and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will absolutely bring an end to my time with this game.

The little timer tab on PS5 says I have put over 900 hours into the game. It's mad with fighters that you can spend time like that and then end with the opinion it is a bad game. It was fun for a good while. I don't however think there is a single thing I have learned in playing SF6 that I can port over to any other SF game.

Edit: How could I forget! I played some Robocop as it is a PS Plus game. I really enjoyed it! I will definitely play this one through. I'm usually not one for FPS games so I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed it.

About 3 hours or so into Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Not sure I really get combat yet. Sword mode is great when you can use it but it runs out so quick. The echo summons are slow as fuck to kill anything. I enjoy everything else with the echoes though like using them for platforming or as puzzle pieces.

Anyone else end up playing Rain Code at some point? This is that 3D mystery game from the Danganronpa devs.

Anyway, I finally pulled it off the shelf and booted it up since I needed to take a break from Xenoblade X. Super weird and surprisingly funny at times. I guess it's sort of like Persona series, Catherine, or Danganronpa…. But fairly lighthearted and humorous in contrast to the grisly murders. No RPG elements even though you "level up" your character by making observations.

I can't play games like this all the time… I burned out on Phoenix Wright and Danganronpa eventually. But every once in a while I like a game like this so I'm glad to dive into it.

I've been really hesitant to pick it up after Danganronpa V3 really left a sour taste in my mouth, but I've heard good things so I'll check it out sooner or later.

Was a terrible game, but amusing one. Feels epic at times. If PS3 could carry it at at least locked 30 it would have been a cult classic.

Just took down the third boss in Sifu. The combat/gameplay is really starting to click with me now. Feels great to run into areas and beat the shit out of a bunch of thugs with weapons. Abusing the focus strikes and invincibility animations really help too. Museum is one of the best designed levels I've seen in a game in quite some time. @Grinchy I said I'd give my 2 cents when done but seriously, it's awesome. There's no way it shits the bed from here, you should check it out if interested. I'm surprised the game didn't get more love on D Pad but Elden Ring came out shortly after so I think a lot of us skipped on it.

FF6 I just got the airship, again. Time to get the band back together

My copy came in already 💪

I got that steelbook edition and it even came with an art book. Don't really care, but it's a cool little package overall. Glad you're liking it and I think it's gonna click for me like that too.
