First of all, publishers are not developers, so don't mention MS, Sony, Nintendo, EA or anyone who's not a developer. Developers are Ubisoft Montreal, Naughty Dog, Microsoft Game Studio, EAD, Gamefreak, etc..

Alright then. So, simple question: Which are your 3 most hated game developers? We often talk about our favorite studios, but let's take a look at the opposite end of the spectrum. Ideally, add a little text as to why you dislike them.

PS: Poll-question is about publishers, so don't cry that it's separate from the thread question

--------------------------------
--------------------------------

My Top 3:

1.) Atlus
2.) From Software
3.) Naughty Dog

Atlus for how asinine their release policy is. Just put the fuck EVERYTHING on Switch day 1, you stupid idiots. :/ From Software because their games are the most overrated I can think of. Elden Ring is literally THE SAME as Dark Souls, just with an open world that adds running between places and nothing else. And then Naughty Dog who are responsible for Hollywood-i-cizing video games, producing the most mindnumbing games, but getting praise for the graphics and movie-like presentation.

As for publishers, Bandai Namco is the worse, because they're intentionally late-releasing their game on Switch.

In all seriousness, maybe Naughty dog, Ubisoft, and most recently I guess Insomniac but historically insomniac has been great. Just in the past few years they took 2 great franchises and sullied them. Bunch of blue haired twats.

I really don't know developers well enough to keep a list of who sucks the worst. I can safely say that 343i freaking sucks, and I would also say GameFreak sucks ass too. So there's two that suck pretty damn bad. Beyond those two, I can't really think of who else sucks bad enough to be noticed.

Among publishers, this is pretty tough. I mean, it's got to be EA by a longshot just because of the sheer number of IPs they've killed and developers they've ended. If anyone is a full on blight on the industry, it's been EA consistently since the early-2000s, and then they really doubled down with all the mtx and Ultimate Team bullshit while slowly reducing the quality of their best franchises.

Next would probably be Nintendo. They're capable of making the best games, and yet we get three years of mostly garbage out of them. It could have been so easy for them to follow up BotW with even more content and $30 DLC that wasn't a total waste of money, and yet everything since BotW has felt rushed, shortened, or is just B-tier content they can easily shovel onto the market. Yes, Animal Crossing was a home run, and yet so much else has left us scratching our heads -- seriously, where's the rest of the AAA stuff? And yes, I've loved Xenoblade Chronicles and there's Bayonetta, but strictly speaking of Nintendo's collection of IPs they have basically shit the bed after the first couple of years of the Switch.

Yeah, that's Nintendo for you. When they are selling you can fuggin' forget about killer AAA content.

I don't really dislike any developer. EA Sports hasn't made anything I've been interested in playing for decades, but I don't hate them for it. I just recognize that their games aren't for me. If anything there are specific industry figures I have a problem with.

For instance, Peter Molyneux was horrible about over promising and under delivering with almost every project he worked on. What's Inside the Cube? and Godus were fitting disappointments for his swan song.

@FactsAreDead I changed the poll to allow 3 votes per user since that is the question your thread is asking
While I'm okay with offering 3 votes, the majority of people posting in this thread so far are illiterate and haven't read the op :/ I added the publisher-vote as a bonus, the thread itself is about DEVELOPERS, so guys, don't mention "Ubisoft" or "EA", tell us which specific studio you dislike!

Yeah, their games aren't for you and they have no problem paying hundreds of millions to ensure no one else makes a football game for you either.

I want to fully blame EA, but I know that the NFL is the one who instigated this.

I've noticed nobody ever reads the op they just see the headline then post their wellinformed opinions

You make a thread titled with a question about developers, emphasize PUBLISHERS in the poll options, and emphasize developers again in the post. Make up your goddamn mind. :p

I don't generally keep a list of disliked developers or publishers. I tend to value creations separately from the creator, and don't have any reasons to specifically dislike the companies.

That said, I can probably single out Paradox as both developer and publisher, since they're continuing to pursue the idea of "game plus five times the game's cost in DLC for the complete experience", which is their fault on both sides of the coin.

I have various gripes with various other devs and publishers, but it's not enough to put them on a 'most disliked' list. Maybe the only one that tends to stand out is SEGA for their stupid pricing policy on Steam.

I also dislike Epic Games, but more as a parent company-slash-investor, rather than a developer or publisher, so it's neither here nor there.

1. 343- I dislike the direction they took with the Halo series and it's been a downhill slope since Halo 4.
2. Ubisoft Quebec, Montreal, Toronto- Their games all have that samey Ubisoft formula and I'm sick of playing them.
3. Bethesda Software- No matter how hard I try I just can't get into their games. The gun/gameplay of the fallout games is just not fun and i get bored fast and move on to something else

after thinking long and hard about this I'll just say some completely original comment about EA blizzard and lootboxes

It's a video game forum

It's not that serious dude

Tencent as both publisher and developer

If you know who Tencent are you wouldn't even consider anyone else. All the others EA, Ubi, Square are just business trying to squeeze money out of you. Tencent squeezes the money out of you to exacerbate human suffering in China. Tencent controls the Great Firewall of China, the social media, online banking etc and is thus the de-facto digital arm of the CCP. The closest you can get to funding actual concentration/extermination camps in modern times is to support companies working with Tencent. It really is that simple.

I find this odd. What are you specifically looking for because Fallout 4 is basically an FPS if you want it to be. VATS mode is purely extra. You can literally snipe your way through 80% of the game if that's what you want to do. Not sure I understand the complaint.

Also, Fallout games are a fraction of Bethesda's games. There's plenty else to dig into if post-apacalyptic fantasy isn't your cup of tea. Tay, you strike me as the sort who would live out his dreams in a place like Skyrim as a vampire living in a simple wooden cottage pretending to run a lumber mill while molestingdrinking the blood of travelers who seek to stay the night at your place.

All of them. They have all contributed to the current state of the industry for better or worse, mostly worse.

Edit - Tencent is on another level though. I have to wonder if their name reflects just how much they value a person?

343 - Just fucking stop already. You're obviously incompetent.
Bethesda - Can we get a game with a decent story for a change? What about one that at least 'feels' good to play?
Bioware - Die already, please. You haven't produced anything good in a long fucking time.

I actually thought I was being odd when I selected EA, Ubisoft and ActiBlizz, but then saw the results after I voted. Damn, I guess we mostly all agree lol

Ubisoft trash games like Far Cry are something I might play one of per generation. But I don't find myself playing anything by EA or AB. All 3 just make shit I don't care about.

I think Ubisoft are worse than EA or Activision. I hate that stupid, gaudy art direction that permeates some of their franchises like Watch Dogs 2 and Legion, Riders Republic, and XDefiant. I don't like Blizzard's generic fantasy/futuristic art direction either. Overwatch 2 looks butt ugly.

These were going to be my three and you covered my thoughts pretty much exactly.

I'm going to add Obsidian. I don't necessarily hate them but I think their games are a bit overrated. I won't play Pentiment as I have no interest in that game. I thought New Vegas was a broken mess along with KOTOR 2. Decent when they worked but felt sloppy. Outer Worlds was complete garbage and Grounded is another game just not for me. Not looking forward to anything they release.

Nothing can be worse than EA. This publisher killed some of the most celebrated gaming franchises and now make money by licensing their soundtracks. They are so bad that nobody even wants to buy them out.

Every publisher can have good games. That said, some tend to publish games that don't resonate much with me.

MS - tried all of their games, some Gears were fun, especially Horde Mode. Played Forza 3 and enjoyed it, no desire to play another one though. Halo is meh. MS Flight Sim wasn't good either.

Nintendo - the Switch isn't for me. Sold it quickly. Mario Odyssey and Zelda weren't fun for me. Also totally crippled by the shitty hardware.

Activision Blizzard - next Diablo could be good. Other than that, they generally don't have games I like much.

I don't have a problem with licensing deals in general, and major licenses really need to be exclusive to one developer or publisher at a time for a multitude of reasons. I certainly don't agree with all of the choices that these devs and their publishers make concerning these things, but again most of their catalog is outside my range of interests.
