Thread: What’s everyone’s thoughts on hormone therapy?
I have a male cousin in his 40s who recently began taking testosterone. He says it's changed his life. He's working out like a mofo, full of energy.. even sounds more "alive." Anyone consider doing something similar?

I'm sluggish as hell and my T is lower than I'd like it to be. My doc says lose weight and it'll increase, but we kinda have a chicken/egg situation.

Honestly, I'd make sure your diet and sleep are sorted first, then gradually working in exercise if you're leading a sedentary lifestyle. After that, I'd then try testosterone boosting supplements (zinc, magnesium, and d-aspartic acid). I'll admit, tho, that everyone is different and not everyone is going to feel good at a certain T level, even if the body is producing as much as it can. Some men feel fine at low levels and others need higher levels to feel good.

Edit: And to follow up, I can totally relate to you. I'm turning 45 in a few months, and I have been feeling pretty rundown ever since turning 40, really. Several months back, I started doing what I recommended above and began feeling a difference in my energy levels after a few weeks. It wasn't easy, I'll admit. But even just starting out with daily walks led to an improvement. Sadly, had some complications that messed up my routine (slip and a fall, then chest pains a few weeks later) and I feel like I'm back at square one. Slowly working my way back into it, tho.

Just manufacture your own through correct dietary choices, fitness program, sleep schedule. Add to that, stress management and you're good

Any man that takes testosterone is fucking himself in the long term imo. Unless it's being prescribed and used for a serious medical condition, why risk it?

Doesn't it need to be prescribed to take it? Is there like a testosterone black market or something? 🤔

Hopefully it does. I've never taken any and never will. I laugh at all these pussies who even consider it. They're clueless. How hard is it to train 2-4x per week for 45-60 min and eat nutritious meals, sleep?

Pharmaceuticals are risky. And doctors don't know what they're doing or saying 90% of the time, probably more tbh

Life is hard, my dude, and it only gets harder the older you get. And some have it harder than others.

Edit: And to add to that, it is a lot fucking harder to eat/sleep/exercise properly in my 40s than it was in my 20s, and it has nothing to do with me being a pussy. Hell, I'd have broken your jaw for calling me a pussy in my 20s. Lol

For some dudes it's a legit medical issue I think. More common as they age.

I hear squats are like a super beneficial exercise for producing testosterone.

Against feeling old and depressed, getting a new job was the best choice. Not an easy one currently though, and took over one year to realize

This is probably what will keep me from trying it in the future. Maybe it was just a streak of bad luck for me but I've had my last four illnesses wrongly diagnosed by three doctors. Not going to take that risk with hormones. I've lost basically all faith in medical professions.

Just curious, how old are you?
30. And I guarantee you if I'm still alive in ten or fifteen years I wont be bitching about or calling for the use of the hormone testosterone. I'll still be making my own at plenty satisfactory levels. If you know how to exercise, have some discipline with nutrition and are generally healthy there is virtually no obstacle in your way

Yea, I thought so. And you can't guarantee anything. You won't know until you're there, because everyone's body is different - you may be fine in 15 years, but you may not. Hell, some people can smoke their whole lives and live into their 90s. You still have the optimism of youth, but a lot can go wrong in 15 years, trust me.

Just a bit of history - I was heavily into bodybuilding throughout my 20s, and was a strong and muscular dude. I was never a bodybuilder, per se, but you could tell I lifted and most people wouldn't want to scrap with me. In fact, I was so into that lifestyle that I was heavily leaning towards getting into the fitness industry and becoming a professional trainer/coach (I eventually gave up on that dream as I didn't have the money or time for the education and various certs). Into my 30s, I continued on as I had been doing, getting lots of exercise and eating healthy, then into my late 30s something changed and my normal routine wasn't doing the trick. My sleep took a hit, my mood took a turn for the worst, etc. Various docs said I was fine, except my test levels were dropping (but still at an 'acceptable' level). I still eat health (healthier than I ever have, really), but it's getting harder and harder to maintain a consistent exercise routine. Reduced energy, recovery takes longer, injuries happen more often, etc. I'm still trying, but sometimes your body just fucks off, regardless what you want. I still bring up the topic to the docs (I've had three different doctors over the past five years or so) and they basically come back with, "Yea, you're getting old." Anyways, my whole point is that I'm not clueless, and shit is never as simple as "just do this and this its easy lmfao."

There's a reason they call it "practicing" medicine. Doctors certainly don't have it mastered. :p

Not to mention the medical industry's bed-fellow, big-pharma. (and I would argue that the food industry is also in cahoots with medical/big-pharma) It's an industry driven by greed and profit above *customer* (not patient) well-being. I'm not say that there are no decent people who genuinely care *within* the industry, but they're also limited by the machine to which they belong, both in terms of knowledge and potential assistance.

Eat real (unprocessed) food, exercise to your capacity and increase as you are able until fit, get good/enough sleep, forgive, laugh, love and enjoy your life. That's all the medicine you should ever need, barring emergency.

I felt the same and back in October I did a drastic change in lifestyle with Diet/Exercise/Sleep and it was life changing in terms of my energy levels. I lost 30lbs and felt great.

Then my youngest was born the first week of March and I've gained back half of that weight and feel like utter shit again. 3 hours per night sleep kills all that progress 😭😭
