Pretty much what the title says.

I'd love a Rogue Trader video game RPG. For those not familiar, it's a game about explorers and pirates in the WH40k universe.

The Rogue Traders are given special privileges by the lmperium to diplomatically deal with those filthy xenos and even trade with them along with other things.

As a bonus, get my boy Karl Urban to voice act and likeness of a captain or something.

I would really like to get into w40k gaming and lore. What games for ps3/4 would you recommend, and what books, and in what order should I read/play them?

It sort of depends on what you're into.

The WH40k universe is vast. There's a shit ton of lore.

A lot of the newer games are starting to focus on the more 'non-space marine' aspects. For example Necromunda and the Underhives and Hired Gun.

I'd say, since you mentioned consoles, get Space Marine for PS3. You should find brand new factory sealed copies for around 20 bucks on Amazon and eBay.

There is no right or wrong order, since most stories told in 40k are mostly independent from each other. The game Space Marine was already mentioned, and for the price it's currently going for it's easy to recommend. In terms of books I think Apocalypse is a good one to have a taste, since it's a self-contained story, does hint at some wider implications but doesn't require you to know much background to start with.

?

Rogue Traders are an incredibly diverse group of people. They are a perfect starting point for an RPG in Warhammer, literally better than any other social class in the universe. Shit, man, just imagine having your own ship, and just doing whatever you want on the outskirts of the galaxy. Think of the mayhem you could cause :D :D :D

The rules for Warhammer 40k is the best way to start with the lore. It serves you bite sized pieces of relatively objective info about each faction and the universe at large. The problem with games and books is that each person has their own way of realizing the 40k universe so whatever you start with you will view the world from that person's view. I for example started with Space Hulk 1992 so my exposure started off well since in that game there is basically no lore, just dudes in armor and big aliens that kill each other. But if you move into more modern games like Space Marine or Fire Warrior you will get the perspective of the world from the developer's point of view, that is why all the 40k games have pretty drastic differences between them, be it aesthetics, the flow of combat, general atmosphere or even speach patterns.

I always wanted to get into the Space Hulk video games but they always focus on the Tyranids. Space Hulks are known for other threats as well, especially from the Warp.

I'd love a Space Hulk video game but with Daemons instead of Gene Stealers and whatnot.

That whole amazing genestealer thing got lame with them being retconned into tyranids later on. Unfortunately.

Btw there was an English metal band that went by the name 'Bolt Thrower'.

They had album art done by one of the old Wh40k artists and even Games Workshop have them permission to use certain art and even songs named and/or based off Wh40k.
