Because Hollywood are fucking idiots and or think they know better then actually doing a faithful adaption. A faithful adaption would have been one of the better horror movies of the past few years.

This is one of the big reasons I spit on Hollywood. They take magnificent source materials, remove the soul....and core tenets of the fucking plot. And then pump the husk full of artificial cheese.
Horror movies are often some of the most consistently safe bets for profit because they can be made on a shoe string budget, since what you can't see is always scarier than what you can.

I don't get the love for this game. It was just okay, and I love horror. It was like a clumsier version of I Know What You Did Last Summer. It was pretty boring IMO, which made the title appropriate given that it sounds like a sleep aid. Honestly the only surprising thing was that Sony didn't make the entire cast black and lesbian.

And then they say that "there just isn't the material to have it be a film..." Resident Evil for example.
It's just bad scripts/writing. RE1-3 could be an amazing film trilogy, there's no good reason why someone hasn't greenlit an actual adaptation of those games.

For me, I'm a huge horror fan and it did a great job of putting you into a teen slasher. I thought the characters were balanced enough and likable. An all-around good gaming/narrative experience. Nothing mind blowing, just a solid playthrough. The remake didn't make a lick of sense. No interest whatsoever in it.
