TRIBES 3: Rivals is a team-based first person shooter that elevates the genre with jetpacks, skiing, and class-based warfare.

Players ski, jetpack, battle, and race to capture the enemy team's flag, all while ferociously defending their own. Players can choose from unique classes to customize their abilities, perks, and weapon loadouts, while moving across epic terrains from snow covered peaks to haunting deserts. Teamwork, tactics, high speed, and intense combat reign supreme in this rebirth of the world's fastest shooter.

CAPTURE THE FLAG: The core of the game lies in its intense team based capture-the-flag mode, demanding individual skill along with strategic team play.

DYNAMIC MOVEMENT: Jetpack flight and skiing allow unparalleled freedom and fluidity in movement across the battlefield.

STUNNING ENVIRONMENTS: Navigate beautiful and complex maps from arid deserts to icy mountains, each designed to offer a different gameplay experience.

CLASS BASED WARFARE: Tailor your character with a wide array of weapons, skins, perks, and abilities, offering endless ways to compete and strategize. Light classes excel in speed, Medium classes offer mobility and firepower, and Heavy classes bring formidable armor and weapons to the fray.

COMMUNITY FOCUSED DEVELOPMENT: The game is crafted with input from the TRIBES community, ensuring an experience that honors the series' legacy while introducing fresh elements to keep gameplay exciting and engaging.

CUSTOM MATCHES, MODES, AND UGC: Users will soon be able to create custom matches that offer different team sizes and weapon loadouts, custom modes that alter the game's core physics such as gravity and player speed, and generate their own content such as customized maps and environments.

If the gameplay is more like Tribes than Tribes 2 and I am there! Tribes is one of my all time favorite online shooters. Love playing engineer and guarding the flag.

All about the TAC mod for me, basically the Ground is Lava but in Tribes

Sadly this is doomed. The fifty console gamers who bought that one Tribes port have already forgotten it, and the modern post-Steam PC crowd never played it in the first place.

Why does it look like that?
It looks like some assets reused from Starsiege: Deadzone which looked pretty outdated and is a free-to-play early access game that released back in July.

Tribes: Ascend looked better and it was running on Unreal Engine 3. I had fun with Tribes: Ascend, for the short time that I played it, so hopefully this will turn out good. But like @DonDonDonPata pointed out, it's gonna be an uphill battle for this kind of game to land on its feet and keep momentum.

Game is fantastic. I am not a diehard Tribes fan but I did play the most recent one. I played 2 a little bit as well.

This is unique but a lot of fun. Movement is incredible and it plays unlike any other game out right now.

How do the visuals hold up, image quality, pop in, textures etc? Are there any noteworthy physics in the game?

The game is beautiful specifically your character and the weapon models. The maps are great but more atmospheric instead of wowing you on pure graphics and textures. That being said they are still beautiful maps and look great in this engine.

The most recent map added is wild. It's some lava planet. I stayed up until 3:00 skiing all over that bitch.

I have yet to have any pop in and the game runs great. I believe they plan on going early access very soon and it feels good.

Physics feel good and skiing is very enjoyable.

So here are my thoughts after the play test. I put 12 hours in and I am truly addicted. I even popped into the discord to see what the community was thinking. I cannot believe these cocksuckers took the game down until the next test.

1. I looked at the above screens and the game looks immensely better than what is shown above. Since the maps are so massive like most Tribes maps the ground textures are nothing amazing but use a stylized effect to make it look great. The lava map looks amazing because the barren land fits it so damn well.

2. Gameplay is key and a lot of the expected weapons are there. A lot of the community feels hitboxes are to big causing mid airs to be to easy. Personally I think the hitboxes are in a great spot but I have never been a sweat when it comes to Tribes.

3. Biggest gripe most people have is that the game is currently focusing on smaller team modes such as 7v7. The devs have mentioned they plan to add vehicles and bigger team modes eventually. I loved this smaller mode but it will need to be expanded if they plan to add the older Tribes functionality. Right now attacking generators doesn't seem worth it and gameplay focuses all around attacking and defending the flag.

4. Devs are expecting this to be a fan project and to lose money. In my eyes this is good as their expectations are realistic but hopefully arena shooters see a comeback. Erez(CEO) and Prophecy are active in the discord. Erez was grilled on the support required to keep the game alive and he says they will support it long as there are enough players to make it worth it. He quoted 10k as being the ball park.

5. They learned from Tribes Ascend and nothing will be pay to win. All skins will be cosmetic only. I expect them to copy the monetization from smite and their other games.

6. Ranked will be there and they are working on gamemodes to help onboard new Tribes players. They have already created two new game modes to help with this which are good warm up modes.

Sidenote: There was a cool little community tournament this weekend. One in NA and the other in EU. Only 250 watched each one but a decent showing for a game not even out of alpha.

Thumper and chaingun combo is goated.

Some great clips coming out of the playtest. Sounds like the community opinion has shifted and they feel like the game is finally moving in the right direction. I picked the perfect time to check it out. Apparently they have a play test every weekend. You pussies should install it an play.

Its coming boys.

Honorball is like a Rocket League mode which is great for newbies. You can see it at 50 seconds in the trailer.

PS - They are doing a massive marketing push now and have a demo from SteamFest. Supposedly a lot of new blood coming in this week and the build will be different than the recent play tests.

There is a new mode they are introducing called arena. The name is a placeholder but holy crap is it fun.

It is like rocket league as its 4v4 and you all fight over a bomb. The goal of the game is to thrown the bomb at the enemies base and the first to 7 wins.

As more people play the game the meta game is evolving rapidly. You can shoot the ball to deny user pick ups. This will probably be my most played mode as I do get tired of CTF.

In the official trailer the movement seemed too fast. In stead of 'jumping' around with some boost...they are just flying.

Most people say the movement is not fast enough. The super fast scenes are the light class and all classes have a jetpack that burns through energy super fast. The recharge rate is super fast as well so its a balancing act to keep you skiing momentum up.

I probably put a thousand hours into Starseige: Tribes back in the day. The skiing exploit was just that an exploit that few actually did.

Then they made it a feature Tribes 2 and that's when they lost me to Counter-Strike.

Maybe this feels good to play, but it looks too fast for me.

It would seem you are one of the hold outs as most people enjoy that Tribes embraced the glitch from 1 and made it a key feature. This is for sure an arena shooter that plays much different than a tactical shooter.

I have only known Tribes to have skiing and fast movement and I couldn't imagine it without it. The movement and projectile based gunplay is the main reason I play it.

For what is worth I have put in 25+ hours into the two play tests I have done and 10+ hours into the demo which is currently running. I have a very unhealthy addiction to it right now.

Here is what it was like in the beginning. This player sucks, but it gives a good example of the movement. They even do a little skiiing :)

I can't stop smiling watching that.

I was hardcore into Tribes 1, in a clan and everything. The magic of the game is that skiing was an accident so none of the maps were designed around it — it just happened, was magical

Respectfully I was a hardcore Tribes 1 player — skiing wasnt an exploit few did — the entire game and arguabley it's popularity grew to revolve around skiing. The speed I'm seeing in the new videos is pretty much identical to how fast you could get going in Tribes 1.

There is a sniper rifle but it is not hit scan. I thought the weapon was shit at first but if you get good with it's incredible.

So far no guns are hitscan and they are all projectile base.

Fuck I am going through withdrawals. They skipped this weekends play test because of the success of steamfest. I get it that the devs need a break but fuck me does this game have its hooks in me bad. I went out and bought a 240htz monitor for this game alone.

I went back to CS and even reinstalled Valorant to try and get my mind off it. None of it works. Luckily hell divers distracts me a little bit.

So yeah I was "incredible" with the sniper rifle in Tribes 1. Like "get banned" from private servers incredible. I was one of those players that could stand at the edge of the map and take out flag attackers/carriers. I ran sniper loadouts for 3 years lol.

Man tribes 1 and helldivers 1 are like my 2 favorite games of all time. I don't really pc game anymore but helledivers 2 and now news of Tribes 3 is severely testing my resolve against buying a gaming pc

EA is on the 12th and only 17 dollars. Turns out they are splitting the honorball game mode into its own game. Sadly I will not be buying Tribes 3 because I get tired of ctf after 3 matches.

I will be there day one for their honorball game mode.
