Game is awesome. But sadly, it's a fucked up UE4 game, so the performance isn't very consistent. I have to play around with the settings, to see if I can minimize it the frame drops.

Still, incredible.

Really? I am playing on Epic settings, at 3340×1440 and I get 100 fps constantly, not a single drop at any time.

Edit: 3440x1440 obviously, sorry.

Looks very different on my part. 1440p, Epic settings, 3080 and a 8700k @4,8ghz, 32GB RAM.

In the main base entrance, can't hold 100fps, drops to the 80s. Is this area running for you at 100fps flat? If so, something might be wrong with my system.

And of course when entering new areas, there are short traversal dips into the 80s as well. Even with 1440p and DLSS enabled, these drops are present for me.

EDIT:
And now it's gone. 100fps flat in the base. Weird.
Traversal stutter is still there and now had some major drops in the castle area. Game isn't well optimized it seems.

Nah man, not having a smooth experience at all. Game dropped frames hard in the Jovic Castle, second Plaza battle.

1440p at Epic preset, I went to the center where the enemies got deployed, some explosives, dropping down to 61fps.
GPU at 34%
CPU at 28%
Only half the VRAM used
Only 1/3 of RAM used

Something is seriously fucked here.

Game is fucked. UE4 fuckery all over the place. I HATE IT. Not even these games run fine. Fuck this shit.

Lowest preset, lowest resolution, dropping to 84fps while all my PC components are totally relaxed, the game not asking for anything.

Look at those visuals. This should not drop one frame from 144fps on like.... a microwave.

screenshot2023-06-221uhd7a.png

Edit:
Tried the lowest available settings and locking it to 60fps... dropped to 55fps during that fight. It's impossible for me to get a smooth and consistent experience, no matter the settings.

The game is VERY repetitive even in level design, you usually end up fighting wave after wave of enemies, then a "high value target" that takes a few 'nades.

It's nothing special, it ran perfect for me on my potato with a few settings tuned to sensible settings.

Overall MEH, meh first try from these people, this truly shows that it takes more than a good concept that could make a fun 1-2 stage gimmicky tech demo and turn it into a full game.

Get it on DEEP DEEP sale.

Quick update on the performance issue and tech support front. They asked for some log files and went for some windows issues with obviously nothing solving the issues because it's the game, not my system.

When the game drops frames even at 760p, lowest settings and DLSS Ultra Performance, it's definitely not the hardware. Like I went for a 60fps cap with these potato settings and it dropped to 55fps. While utilization was under 35%.

Consoles with their mid range laptop CPUs can lock games at 30 or 60 fps, games that are more demanding than Trepang2. And my hardware is better than console hardware. I can fix other games at a certain frame rate, giving me smooth performance as well. It's the game, fix this shit.

Now I set my CPU to default clocks, just playing around. Game dropped from 100 to 34fps in that battle. Going back to my overclock, lowest frame rate is in the 50s. Looks like CPU speed makes a big difference in this game. While the game doesn't even use it much. Sigh.

Unfortunately, I can't refund it anymore. Stopped playing because it feels so bad.

Dealing with the Team17 tech support is so frustrating. They're nice and all, but man. I described the issue, took screenshots showing the metrics, said multiple times that it does happen regardless of settings, that it happens on 760p lowest settings as well. With other people online having similar issues.

After weeks of back and forth, many messages and them only searching for issues on my part... they now seriously asked if I tried lowering the resolution.

Edit: Booted up Prodeus, 1440p, max settings, game looking fucking great, and no matter the carnage on screen, locked 144fps. While Trepang2 at 760p, lowest settings AND DLSS drops to 55fps. That doesn't seem like a hardware issue on my part...

Seems like it's mostly just this part of the game. After that, it runs way better at 100fps only with the normal UE4 traversal hitches.

Have you made sure you PC is plugged into the wall socket?

Funniest part was, I told them that all recent UE4 games show this behavior. Traversal stutters, under-utilization of the CPU, shader compilation issues, from Redfall to Forspoken to Jedi Survivor. They said, well if it happens with other games as well, it's an issue with your PC and not with our game.

I was like... bruv go watch some Digital Foundry. They now forwarded it to the actual dev team. Let's see if anything comes from it.

First time seeing this game, gonna need to cop on PS5. I haven't played a good shooter in years and this looks pretty damn jawsome.

I tell you this much:

You can change the color of your shoes. So when you slow-mo-mid-air-face-kick a dude, you can see the shoe color of your choice. Also, you can dual wield bad ass boltguns that not only fire huge bolts that nail your enemies to the environment.... they're explosive bolts.

The game is all about using the fun abilities and go for style. If you only do what's necessary to end the combat situation, that's not the way it's meant to be played.

Finished the campaign! Pretty neat finish, crazy action, intense and over the top. The game didn't overstay it's welcome, short and sweet. Outside of the unfortunate stutters, amazing game.

I mean...

Loved it overall, will now jump into the combat simulations. Will be fun with the cheats that alter the game. Like enemies that stumble across everything lol

Well, the huge dips and performance issues I experienced were tied to the 8700k CPU. I upgraded to a 13600k, which caused a nearly locked 144fps during the plaza battle in the castle, where it previously had big drops of up to 50fps, wildly fluctuating between 144 and 90fps, feeling like crap.

Some traversal stutters are still there, but it's worlds better now and very enjoyable.

A game like this, with small areas that doesn't do incredibly complex stuff, shouldn't have any issues with an 8700k though, it's Bad optimization. But I brute force my way through it now I guess.

How old is the 8700k? I have an I7 9700f, wonder if I'd have similar difficulties.

It's from October 2017, so nearly six years old.
The 8700k and 9700f aren't really much different regarding gaming performance, so there's a chance it'll have similar issues.

I'm very sensitive regarding performance fluctuations though, and it might not be a big issue for you. The game was still playable overall and not a total trainwreck, but performance wise not really good either.

Nah, I regularly get driven nuts by traversal stutter. Guess I'm SOL.

This game had traversal hitches, like literally freezing there for a short moment. Which destroyed some cool traversal cutscenes and boss fight because it was very stuttery.

Performance dips and stutters during transition are still there with my new CPU btw, just not as strong as before.

The main missions on Hard are fair. The side missions though, with the waves, hard difficulty is extremely annoying and not fun at all.

Game is great except the waves thing. Not a fan of that shit.

I only found the waves difficult during one side mission, @Explosive Zombie knows what I mean. Other than that, was fun mowing them down. Gets easier and more fun though once you unlocked more stuff to buy, like whole squads you can deploy.

I don't know man, 24 enemies, half of them at once, at least two fully armored ones and three with the hacking block, half the time I can't see where the fuck I am being shot at from.

You can unlock squads??

Yeah I'm having a lot of trouble with one of them but going back once I've unlocked more stuff might make it easier
