Developers of Assassin's Creed Battle Street Fighter for Most Hated Gaming Brand

Perhaps no fandom loves to hate as much as gamers. With fierce opinions, hours of personal investment, and a complex relationship between gaming and psychosocial problems, gamers want to tell people about it. They complain about Ubisoft the most. The Assassins Creed developer is the most hated gaming brand in 23 countries.

Capcom is number two, most hated in nine countries. The Street Fighter producer aggravates fans with buggy code and curious, creative decisions. Conversely, loveable games brand Nintendo is most hated only in one country: Norway. "Does Nintendo know that they're essentially killing Nintendo Online's SNES/NES emulator by releasing ONLY shit/forgettable games?" complains @TinyFluffyGoat.

METHODOLOGY & SOURCES

We compiled a list of some of the biggest global gaming, fast food, tech brands and ISPs within the UK and US. Using Twitter's API, we pulled tweets mentioning these brands.

We then used language analysis tool SentiStrength to determine the sentiment of tweets (considering tweets with a negative component from -5 to -2 as negative). Aggregating the data by country and US states, we calculated the % of negative tweets and ranked the brands to reveal the most hated in each region. For all countries, we omitted brands without at least 10 unique users tweeting about them.

There are a lot of other "Most Hated" categories in the above link, not just gaming.

I'm not surprised at the Ubisoft hate, but damn, a lot of people hate Capcom too? And the fact that Game Freak is number one in the US and Canada is surprising as well, yet people still continually buy Pokemon. And Relic is hated in China and Uganda? WTF?

Capcom is pretty much a western company now but still has Monster Hunter for the Japanese mass market so that result for Japan is... kinda strange. Konami I would understand. Also... Game Freak? I don't play Pokemon anymore and am aware their games are weak from a technical POV but come on, there's so many more bad, scummy companies.

Game Freak are also the most hated in the UK & Australian. Most of the English speaking countries aren't GF fans.

Well I don't play Pokemon, so I have no idea what kind of scummy tactics the company does to rip off it's customers. I'm just surprised that Pokemon still has such a large fanbase despite this.

Only Mexico hates Activision? Kinda surprising. But Ubisoft is pretty awful too. Also a bit surprised EA is not up there in Europe for the FIFA Ultimate team BS.

The games are generally fine. They could be better graphically. People moan and bitch about them a lot though.

I think it's a self loathing fanbase. I have a theory about Pokemon where it actually hasn't really gotten worse or anything, it's still largely the same game it was when it released. It's just the fanbase grew up and didn't realize the games were always easy/barebones. The nostalgia for the older titles kind of clouds their judgement.

I don't play Pokemon so I could be wrong on this (I played the OGs on gameboy back in the day and that's it) but whenever I hear the fans complain it's usually over the games being too easy, assets being reused and other dumb shit.

Isn't Pokemon's primary fanbase children? I think the developers have kept it simple because they didn't want to overcomplicate the game for kids. Older fans should have moved on to something else when they came of age.

Tencent: literally being an accessory to genocide, they themselves are committing other heinous crimes like censorship, Orwellian tier surveillance, social credit score, owned by the CCP etc.
gamers: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ubisoft: releases a mediocre game
gamers: LITERALLY WORSE THAN HITLER!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The problem is the games are getting easier and more dumbed down each iteration.

Is that really the case? Like I said, I've never played a Pokemon game so I have no idea about the issues surrounding them. The current games are much dumbed down than the original Gameboy titles? Damn.

I'm surprised Capcom made the list in such a strong way, they make some shit (RE: Resistance) but still make good enough stuff. MH does well, RE7/8/2 did well.

I would have put money on EA featuring heavily, so I'm glad my wallet wasn't involved in this one.

I would it would be EA or Activision rather than GameFreak. But I haven't played a Pokémon game since Ruby/Saphire.

As I said to someone over at GAF, it's just a bit of fun and it's not something that should be taken seriously. Even if the people that did the study would like you to take it seriously.

I've never seen a map like this that I actually agreed with. I saw one about favorite candy once. I don't even think they sell my state's favorite candy in my state.
