Nintendo has released a five-minute overview trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.

Here is an overview of the game, via Nintendo.com:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game soars onto Nintendo Switch!

Take to the skies, draw your sword, and experience the earliest story in the Legend of Zelda series. Join Link in his high-flying quest to save Zelda, a childhood friend who must confront her destiny. Soar between floating islands and descend to the treacherous surface world in this updated HD version of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Master Realistic Swordplay that Matches Your Movements

Swing your sword and angle your slashes to uncover and break through opponents' defenses using intuitive motion controls. Link will match the angle of each strike you make with the Joy-Con controller, creating immersive swordplay that relies on strategy and accuracy. Movements feel smoother and more immediate thanks to the Nintendo Switch system's increased processing power and HD graphics. Take advantage of the newly-added button only control scheme—perfect for playing in handheld mode or on the Nintendo Switch Lite system.

Fly high with the Zelda & Loftwing amiibo™ figure

With her majestic Loftwing by her side, Zelda steps into her destiny alongside her childhood friend, Link. Scan this amiibo figure** from anywhere on the surface world to quickly travel to the sky—even within the depths of a dungeon. Scan it again above the clouds to return to the same spot on the surface

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is due out for Switch on July 16.

I have to wonder whether many people do the motion control thing for the sword and shield, or just use the button options.

Oh did they make a no motion option? In the unveil I stopped watching once they pulled off the joycons and started using them.

Hmmm this makes me almost want to play this finally.

Really curious how this will fare when it releases. I hated the game when it first released, revisited it during Christmas and actually quite enjoyed it. Probably 75% through, need to go back and finish it.

It still has some truly awful back tracking and the motion controls for swimming and the flying beetle are just flat out awful.

I just have a hard time seeing kids whose first experience with Zelda was BOTW, actually enjoying this game. It's the polar opposite of BOTW.

The OST is fantastic though.

Gotta account for all those Switch Lite owners.

I'll give it a try because it's there, and depending on how well it works I might even stick with it. After playing through the first couple dungeons again last year though, I just have a hard time imagining it working well without motion controls.

I really hope the "handheld" controls work well for this. Want to play it without waggle finally.
I'm curious too. In my head I'm imagining the handheld controls to be similar to the Skate series.

If you never played Skate, the Right analog controlled the board, so like pulling down and then snapping forward would cause you to ollie.

I'm thinking the slashes will be the same, flick type movements. It could potentially work well.

I can't see this ever being anything than a dark horse for the Zelda series, the most significant since 2. It's just such a strange Zelda. It feels like open world wasn't doable on the Wii, Zelda could not turn in yet another Ocarina variant (if brilliant), and what we ended up with up with was a bunch of lateral moves to provide something fresh, that are at odds with everything Zelda is.

To be clear, I absolutely adore it, lol, but on its own merits.

I'm overjoyed to get to finally play this in HD, so a lot of the beauty of the game can really shine, as well as now having every 3D Zelda looking presentable and good, but I seriously wonder who this is for, besides me. I think, like you, BotW fans above all, will practically riot.

I hope people give it a chance. For all it's all-out strangeness, this game was consistently fun in a way that I was deeply sad when it was over, and there was no more left. That, the ever evolving areas (love this), some brilliant dungeons, a great story, the soundtrack of the gods... there's a lot to love here.
