Their first movie together writing the screenplay and starring in since 1997's Good Will Hunting. It also stars Adam Driver, up and coming actress Jodie Comer and directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner).

The Last Duel is an upcoming American-British historical drama based on the book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France by Eric Jager. Directed by Ridley Scott, the screenplay is written by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. Damon stars as Jean de Carrouges, a 14th-century knight who challenges his squire Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) to a duel after his wife (Jodie Comer) accuses Le Gris of raping her. Affleck, Harriet Walter, Nathaniel Parker, Sam Hazeldine, Michael McElhatton, and Alex Lawther also star.

An interesting premise, though whether it will stick close to the history of the event is debatable, especially with Ridley Scott involved (Kingdom of Heaven anyone?). But I'm a sucker of medieval movies especially with this much talent involved.

Must admit this came out of nowhere, but I'm digging it. Kind of astounded that Ridley Scott hasn't retired yet (dude is over 80 now) but even if his historical films have questionable aspects they're generally always banging when it comes to the action side of things, and seeing dudes knocking seven bells out of each other in suits of armour rarely gets old tbh. I will climb on board the hype train.

I'm more interested in the drama of the whole event. This was the last trial by combat sanctioned by the French before they banned the practice. Duels though still happened afterwards but they were mostly private affairs. Apparently this whole trial was a huge scandal that even the king got involved.

I hadn't really thought about it like that but yeah I guess it makes sense as it was basically a trial of combat to prove a woman's innocence through god, rather than just a straight-up case of 'did you tap my tart mate?' Broadswords at Dawn affair.
