343 will never make a good Halo. They suck. I regret buying Halo 4 and 5. Waste of money.
Gears of War also sucks since 4. Totally devoid of personality. It should have ended on 3. 5 bored me out of my skull and I left 2 hours in.
Not sure these are unpopular viewpoints... for my part I get unpopular usually when I love something...
I love the Resistance, Killzone and Crysis franchises which all never really hit the top tier of shooters, if you doubt me you can explain why they're all currently dead franchises lol. I love things to be grimdark and brutal, I remember when I first was posting on gaming forums everyone complained about that, they wanted more platformers and RPGs and other games that tend to be more colorful. Killzone 2 is like one of the perfect games for me, the aesthetic and the feel of shooting fools.
I don't like racing games that aren't Burnout. I don't like fighting games besides a select few like Soul Calibur 2. I only really got into RPGs from 2008 on thanks to Fallout 3 and tend to prefer Western RPGs but I've tried some more traditional ones, like CRPGs like Pillars of Eternity, still not huge on JRPGs that aren't Chrono Trigger.
That all leads to a truly unpopular viewpoint... N64 > PSX and XBOX/GAMECUBE > PS2. Playstation didn't become a platform I cared about until PS3, while I didn't own a PSX my friends did but I did own a PS2 and I think I only beat two games which were Metal Gear Solid 3 and God of War. I probably sunk more HOURS into the GTA games than those two games but beating them wasn't in the cards with how the mechanics worked (vastly improved by GTA IV, the first GTA I ever completed).
Despite being a Bethesda RPG guy I never got into Elder Scrolls, I tried with Morrowind, too hard... then Oblivion, the problem with Oblivion was at the time I had the only console in the house and my brother and sister loved Oblivion so I'd legit wake up to them in my room playing Oblivion which soured my views on the game. Skyrim was the first I legit got into, put 100 hours into it but then dropped it and never returned (100 may seem like plenty but I felt like I'd barely scratched the surface). I'm way more of a Fallout guy, which is fine but usually that doesn't mean being as dismissive of Elder Scrolls as I am.
I don't care for franchises like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta... Ninja Gaiden is fun but way too hard for me, but I do prefer it to those two. Any franchise that makes me feel like I need to mash my fingers until they hurt (omg the launch version of DMC 3 had me in such pain) I've kinda gotten over nowadays. Give me simple, effective combat controls. I did beat DMC 4 and was shocked by how much of it is repeated content. I also beat Bayonetta but that was sort of on a dare, I didn't like her, the aesthetic or any of that and I had peer pressure friends who loved it. Though, beating it just made me complain that much more.
Despite being a fan of grimdark type games I think the Gears of War franchise sucks. It has an over reliance on its cover mechanic, your characters move like tanks and it's just sort of boring and not that fun to play as a result. It's like they took the RE formula but made it more actiony, but it's a poor balance. I much prefer well... ANY RE to ANY Gears game. RE 6 in particular feels like what Gears games want to be but fail to be. The action is less exciting than Uncharted, the horror works worse than RE, so to me GoW is just a pile of meh. I know some people love it for MP, as someone who had hundreds of hours in the MP I think it sucked there too lol, why hundreds of hours? STUPID FRIENDS! I preferred Rainbow Six Vegas at the time, also Bad Company 2 oh baby what a fantastic multiplayer game.
Okay, I'll stop for now and maybe come up with more later.
