Alright! let's do this!

State your "controversial" gaming opinion here. So, an "unpopular" opinion you may have about a game or the industry, etc.

Of course, it goes without saying to avoid trolling and try to be respectful to one another.

So I'll start....

Diablo 3 is a great game and imo is the best Diablo game. However, I'm specifically referring to the console versions. The gameplay is great and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the graphics.

That's controversial? I'm playing it off and on now and it's fantastic. On PS5 though, I assume there might be some frame drops on older systems but I don't know.

Most everyone I know considers Diablo 3 the low point in the series, even the console version.

If it's not the gameplay, it's the graphics. People consider the graphics too cartoon-ish and colorful but I never understood that. I think it looks great.

I'd look forward to Diablo IV but the 'always online's requirement even for the console versions is a turn off for me.

@Cryptek I don't really prefer the lighter look compared to 2, and I don't know enough about 1 and 2 to say if 3 is the best in the series or not (going to get the 2 remaster though), but yeah I think for what it's doing everything looks good and runs good, and the gameplay is super tight, controls work well. What's not to enjoy.

Bayonetta is trash
I bought Dante's Inferno and I think it was the same day I bought Bayonetta.

I enjoyed Dante's Inferno much more.

Bayonetta just didn't click with me. Devil May Cry is one of my favorite series of all time and I was expecting something along those lines.

Instead, Bayonetta was extremely linear and the fighting just felt off. It felt like I wasn't landing blows.

Yeah the boss fights are pretty cool and neat to watch and I love some the enemy designs. The Angels, for instance, are actually based off Biblical descriptions and not just people with wings. I dug that.

But that doesn't give it a pass. The game was just overall very unimpressive.

I wouldn't call it trash, but it most certainly was very underwhelming for me.

Same. GAF hated Dante’s Inferno but I liked it enough to finish it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

The Darksiders series is woefully underrated and is the closest thing we have to a modern Legacy of Kain.

Prey (2017) is good but Prey (2006) is an amazing game that really deserved a direct sequel. Instead Human Head got screwed over by Bethesda and in act of vindictive behavior imo, they created a new game using the same new this destroying any chance of a proper sequel.

Speaking of Arkane, another woefully underrated game was Arx Fatalis. There is no other immersive dungeon crawler like it except for the game that inspired it, Ultima Underworld. While I get that Arx Fatalis didn't sell well, it should have received a sequel. There are many other examples of games that sold poorly that got sequels and with the popularity it has, there's really no excuse.

I played Darksiders 1 on release and loved it. Never got around to the others.

2D Zelda will always be best Zelda. I frothed that one on the 3DS.
Honestly, Link Between Worlds looks better all around. I hardly hear people bring that one up which is odd considering Link Between Worlds is pretty much the successor of one of the best Zelda games, Link to the Past.

Bloodstained is a great new IP that is becoming a favorite of mine and has the potential of becoming the next Castlevania. Unfortunately the lore is not being taken seriously and they keep doing silly crossovers with other pixel art crap. I like games with deep lore or just decent lore but they're already marring it and wasting their time with all these crossovers. Iga Kojirashi is a god among developers and he could do so much better.

Prey (the latter) is shit. Looks great, the goo idea is great on paper but really annoying in practice and the enemies just aren't fun.

Dimps sucks.

Street Fighter EX series is way better than IV and V. I still like all SF games but Arika's character shit all over Capcom's new ones.

F.A.N.G. is the worst and looks like generic Choi from KOF bought on Wish. Necalli is also a piece of shit character. That favela stage is cringe AF and Blanka has been turned from cool beast to retarded character.

343 will never make a good Halo. They suck. I regret buying Halo 4 and 5. Waste of money.

Gears of War also sucks since 4. Totally devoid of personality. It should have ended on 3. 5 bored me out of my skull and I left 2 hours in.

Current Mortal Kombat also sucks. The colors are dull, the music is generic as fuck (they had Dan Forden which was the personality of the franchise, iconic music-wise) and now it's just boring orchestral shit from WB without memorable tunes. MK9 was cool but then they fucked up the plot with the time travel bullshit (I love time travel when well done).

Also... Kronika (90's Billy Corgan as a female villan, lol) sucks, plant girl (Cetrion) also sucks and looks like a knock off super hero. Kombat Kids are also cringe fest. For the hate that the 3D games get they were way more interesting plotwise, etc. Also, Kitana Kahn... lmao 🤣 Not to mention the burqa shit.

Final Fantasy is the most pretentious franchise ever. Faux fantasy french inspired stuff with a k-pop flavor (recent entries). OK, I'm done.

Not sure these are unpopular viewpoints... for my part I get unpopular usually when I love something...

I love the Resistance, Killzone and Crysis franchises which all never really hit the top tier of shooters, if you doubt me you can explain why they're all currently dead franchises lol. I love things to be grimdark and brutal, I remember when I first was posting on gaming forums everyone complained about that, they wanted more platformers and RPGs and other games that tend to be more colorful. Killzone 2 is like one of the perfect games for me, the aesthetic and the feel of shooting fools.

I don't like racing games that aren't Burnout. I don't like fighting games besides a select few like Soul Calibur 2. I only really got into RPGs from 2008 on thanks to Fallout 3 and tend to prefer Western RPGs but I've tried some more traditional ones, like CRPGs like Pillars of Eternity, still not huge on JRPGs that aren't Chrono Trigger.

That all leads to a truly unpopular viewpoint... N64 > PSX and XBOX/GAMECUBE > PS2. Playstation didn't become a platform I cared about until PS3, while I didn't own a PSX my friends did but I did own a PS2 and I think I only beat two games which were Metal Gear Solid 3 and God of War. I probably sunk more HOURS into the GTA games than those two games but beating them wasn't in the cards with how the mechanics worked (vastly improved by GTA IV, the first GTA I ever completed).

Despite being a Bethesda RPG guy I never got into Elder Scrolls, I tried with Morrowind, too hard... then Oblivion, the problem with Oblivion was at the time I had the only console in the house and my brother and sister loved Oblivion so I'd legit wake up to them in my room playing Oblivion which soured my views on the game. Skyrim was the first I legit got into, put 100 hours into it but then dropped it and never returned (100 may seem like plenty but I felt like I'd barely scratched the surface). I'm way more of a Fallout guy, which is fine but usually that doesn't mean being as dismissive of Elder Scrolls as I am.

I don't care for franchises like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta... Ninja Gaiden is fun but way too hard for me, but I do prefer it to those two. Any franchise that makes me feel like I need to mash my fingers until they hurt (omg the launch version of DMC 3 had me in such pain) I've kinda gotten over nowadays. Give me simple, effective combat controls. I did beat DMC 4 and was shocked by how much of it is repeated content. I also beat Bayonetta but that was sort of on a dare, I didn't like her, the aesthetic or any of that and I had peer pressure friends who loved it. Though, beating it just made me complain that much more.

Despite being a fan of grimdark type games I think the Gears of War franchise sucks. It has an over reliance on its cover mechanic, your characters move like tanks and it's just sort of boring and not that fun to play as a result. It's like they took the RE formula but made it more actiony, but it's a poor balance. I much prefer well... ANY RE to ANY Gears game. RE 6 in particular feels like what Gears games want to be but fail to be. The action is less exciting than Uncharted, the horror works worse than RE, so to me GoW is just a pile of meh. I know some people love it for MP, as someone who had hundreds of hours in the MP I think it sucked there too lol, why hundreds of hours? STUPID FRIENDS! I preferred Rainbow Six Vegas at the time, also Bad Company 2 oh baby what a fantastic multiplayer game.

Okay, I'll stop for now and maybe come up with more later.

I agree with most of what you said here except Final Fantasy.

I think the modern souls like formula of combat with stamina, lack of quicksaves and proper checkpoints along with unnecessarily punishing difficuilty is just pure shit.
I'll take gow, Bayonetta, Darksiders 1 n 2, Devil May Cry and other spectacle fighters instead every day.

I doubt I played more than a minute of Gwent during a couple of hundred hours of W3. There was one quest which made you do it but I intentionally lost so I could avoid wasting my time on it.

Also, Breath of the Wild copied Ubisoft towers. Disgusting in every respect.

Darksiders is one of the best IPs, if not the best new IP, of the PS3/Xbox 360 gen.

It's the closest thing we actually got to a Blood Omen/Soul Reaver game.

It's fucking criminal there's no interest by devs to make a new one. Instead they wasted time, energy and money to make some MOBA set in Nosgoth and it failed.

I loathe the modern western game industry.

What? Didn't we get a third one a few years ago and people liked it?
