Angry Video Game Nerd aka James Rolfe is one of my first introductions into YouTube personalities and to this day, my favorite.

While I don't care a lot for the newer stuff, his older videos are masterpieces. He practically paved the way for People like Jon Tron and others.

This thread is my appreciation for AVGN.

Two of the greatest reviews here.

Yeah his new stuff never grew - which is less his fault and more my tastes getting more refined.
Loved his old stuff.

Still blows my mind that he hasn’t gotten more talented at shooting.

It all feels so forced and I cringe when he shills for products prior to the video. I understand it's all purely about the money now. Plus, all those fat neckbeards in his movie reviews is pretty lame.

Still I love James just for all his old stuff. I've researched his old content so many times.

I do like Mike Matei though and Bootsy is great, especially in that Ikari Warriors video. I hope he's still not undead behind the couch. Poor guy.

I thought it would be enjoyable to make fun of it while watching. My friend and I got about 30 minutes in. I watched another 30 minutes on my own a few nights later. Then I got about another 10 minutes in. So in 3 sittings, I couldn't finish it.

What bothered me was how cheap the movie looked. It looked like some kind of 80s or 90s kids show.

Love AVGN, probably the only online series I waited for each episode like mad, since the screenwave lot got involved it just doesn't feel the same anymore, you can literally tell when that started to switch just in the execution and the extremely bad jokes, still love James and AVGN and still watch it but last few years hasn't had that same feeling anymore.

I still watch his stuff. The Darkman episode was good, reminiscent of his classic episodes.

I think he just needs to stop overthinking videos. There's so many awful games out there that he hasn't touched on. Just play a shit game and let the footage be the humor.

Yeah since the beginning he didn't seem like somebody who cared about anything past the PS1 or PS2 era.

He also doesn't seem to like RPGs. He did a Dragon Quest Timeline video which is odd considering I don't remember him covering that series before. So, that was probably written for him and he's no longer writing his own shit.

Tbh I don't blame him or anyone for not giving a shit about games from the PS4/Xbox One gen and onward. Bunch of miserable barely functioning games requiring patching out the box and woke garbage.

He made one film that felt like some shitty C-tier movie you'd find streaming on amazon prime for free. Technically he IS a filmmaker but come on. Also the dude refers to his youtube videos as films too which is just completely retarded. He's made over 500 films he says!!!

I laughed when I read about 10 year old notes about movie xDD who are they kidding, and who the fuck bases his (in this case not his, lul) review on 10 year old notes. It literally should take roughly half a day to watch a movie and write a review, and they're making it like it needs to be 20 person squad to do review of a fucking shit horror movie from the eighties.

The Shark Attack video with Mike, Bootsie, and James was goofy and funny (as were many of the videos around that time). It's too bad he can't capture that feeling in the new vids. They're just so lifeless and having him laugh and comment to a screen we don't see is lame.
