Here's a spot where we can discuss anything related to the 'Alien' franchise.

  • Alien
  • Aliens
  • Alien 3
  • Alien Resurrection
  • Prometheus
  • Alien Covenant

After learning about the long lost Famicom game, I feel really in the mood to do this.

For the starters, where do you think the franchise will go from here or what would you like to see?

I'm going to go for broke - I really liked Prometheus.

I know the movie got a lot of hate but after Alien and Aliens, it's my third favorite 'Alien' film.

For starters, I really like anything that involves the ancient astronauts/ancient aliens theory. I know it's sort of trendy nowadays and I'm guessing Ridley Scott used that as a result.

The visuals are stunning and I enjoyed the story. However, I wasn't really a fan of how they made the "Space Jockey" a humanoid. While I really don't have an issue with the Engineers (the race that created the Xenomorphs) especially considering they're in a sense our ancestors, I did want the Space Jockey to look alien - more like his suit from the original Alien movie.

As for Alien Covenant, that was trash. The story was nonsensical and they essentially fucked up everything I liked about Prometheus. Why kill off the redhead? She was probably my favorite character from Prometheus.

Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'd love for a discussion and any news on what is one of the best science fiction movie series of all time.

So this crazy coincidence but I made this thread on "Alien Day" and I wasn't even aware such a thing existed. For those wondering, April 26th is "Alien Day" because, well, LV-426.

Update: while I personally focus more on the Alien franchise, Aliens vs Predator discussion is also welcomed here.

Here's a book I've been planning on buying.

It covers all the canon films (i.e. no Predator stuff) and interesting enough, includes Alien: Isolation.

Few things I want to go over as well, including a not-so-well known advanced race of canine-like aliens that appeared in one of the novels that is supposedly canon.

Another is the original ideas of the xenomorph as being some kind of "anti-life" and/or "anti-universe" type of beings.

However, especially for the latter, I'd like the information from the source I originally read about this on.

In the meantime, sit back and enjoy as we delve into and research the Alien franchise.

"Magnificent, isn't it?"

I love the Alien franchise. I recently bought the LP of the Alien movie from Mondo in the Acid Green Vinyl. I’m a sucker for Alien stuff.

Same.

I fell in love with it ever since I saw (and played) Aliens in the 90s.

Absolutely blew me away. The perfect combination of science fiction, horror and action.

The first movie is a classic combo of science fiction and horror.

Man, I was actually pretty bummed there wasn't any super exciting news about anything today. Saw a couple of interesting environment shots for Fireteam, and then an exclusive Ripley in the Power Loader Funko. But that's about it. :(

Any news of movies or whatever I'll post here.

I'm hoping for something eventually good but it's doubtful we'll ever see another decent movie from the Alien universe.

What could happen is a series. Streaming series are all the rage right now and the budgets and effects are near film quality these days so I could definitely see that happening. Whether it's good or not depends, but the way things are now these days I don't have too much hope.

In truth, just streaming series or a new video game is really all that is left.

I'm a big fan of the first two....
The first two are without doubt the best. Personally my favorite is the second. It's one of the few perfect movies imo.

Anything after Aliens is pretty bad with the exception of Prometheus, but that movie is almost a thing on it's on.

I used to kind of like Resurrection but then I realized how bad it was. I also remember how Joss Whedon was behind it and he is one of the biggest hacks there is. His stupid "feminist" themes is in Resurrection is about as subtle as nail gun to your nuts. That dumbfuck should not be anywhere near an Alien movie.... or Star Wars or anything for that matter.

Edit: well we use to watch these movies together too especially Resurrection. As much of a dumbass trainwreck that movie was, I had fun seeing it with you. I remember screen capping scenes with you on WebTV. lol.

I’ve seen Alien and Prometheus and really liked them . I really need to fill in the gap and watch the rest. Luckily I own all of them.
Whatever you do, skip Alien Covenant. It may be the worst Alien movie to date. Alien 3 and Resurrection sucked but at least there was some entertainment and sensibility in them.

Some interesting.

And I just found out today is coincidentally "Alien Day" and I didn't even know or that such a thing existed.

But I got the reasoning on why today is "Alien Day" almost instantaneously.... April 26th.....4-26
.... LV-426.

Yeah but you included Prometheus and Alien Covenant.
Those are prequels and are both canon to the rest of the Alien franchise.

The AvP movies, comics, games, etc are not part of the mainstream Alien franchise and exist in their own universe/continuity/etc.

Despite that, it's totally fine to include AvP here so feel free to.

Canon doesn't mean anything but if you insist on it the AvP movies were officially canon until Disney bought Fox (they're rebooting, btw, so nothing is canon).

Prometheus is not canon btw, he changed the size of the engineers, if he can't keep these details straight he doesn't deserve his film being considered canon.

I figured you were going to argue this with me but it's not up for debate. Prometheus and Covenant are officially canon to the Alien universe.

AvP is part of it's own canon. It includes things from the original Alien franchise but effectively is its own universe and this was long before the Disney merger.

I'm not going to argue this. Googling this for a few minutes will answer all that. Literally the first thing that comes up when asking if Prometheus is canon....

As far as inconsistencies, that shit exists like this in all movies.

Hell, I even admitted I don't like what he did with the Space Jockey.

But regardless, discussing AvP and all is completely fine and welcome. Even talking about those crossovers like Batman vs Aliens or Dredd vs Aliens, etc.

A Google search just leads me to different people arguing what counts as Canon and what doesn't there is no authoritative source obviously if someone were going to decide what was Canon it would be the owners of the franchise if you can find me an official statement from 20th century Fox saying the AVP films are non Canon I'll probably drop it.

Ridley Scott I would say is pretty authoritive source.

I'm dropping it here. I have no intention on going back and forth about this on what I intended to be a fun and informative thread about the Alien (including AvP) movies, comics, games, etc.

I even edited the OP with including AvP stuff.

So I'm leaving it at that.

I mean you can leave whatever you want the fact is Ridley Scott isn't an authority he didn't even write the movie. There is no George Lucas for the alien franchise and even George Lucas needs to give more credit to the people who collaborated and stop changing his own Canon.

You might like this

I've got it, and it is every bit as detailed and nerdy as you could possibly hope for.

I'd also recommend the Alien and Aliens making of books, that are a massively rich and detailed labour of love and must haves for fans of either or both movies.

I think I have only seen the first two or three films. I must see them all! 🚀👽👩‍🚀

Also Marvel are doing reprints of the old excellent Dark Horse comics, that piss on Alien 3, AVP, Prometheus and their sequels from a great height.

However they are great examples of how utterly shite modern comic artists tend to be, especially given that the first ones cover is ripped off wholesale from fan art

Plus, seriously, compare the second new Omnibis cover art...

...to a random 3rd issue of one of a dozen Alien comics released in a given year back in the late 90's, all of which would have to have been done by hand:

God I hate the general lazy degradation in modern comic standards.
