At work, so I can’t really break each article open and summarize it’s contents (the power of @Mista eludes me), but for your perusal:

The strength of the new display (unsurprisingly) becomes even more obvious when turned on, immediately shining bright and clear from pretty much any viewing angle I tried. Honestly, it’s not an exaggeration to liken its vibrance to when the Gameboy Advance SP got an updated model with a far brighter screen, making the original Switch look noticeably dimmer if compared directly.

...is quite the statement. That was a such a massive jump, that that’s a huge vote of confidence. But then again, it’s also IGN so...

This worries me a little.

Its colors are richer too, and I’m not kidding when I say Breath of the Wild’s grassy fields looked almost cartoonishly green viewed side-by-side.

Sounds like what Samsung used to do on their OLED phones. Jack up the color to the max, and accuracy be damned, something which the current Switch seems to do well. Hopefully that’s hyperbole.

Repositioning the fan vents so that they point downwards sounds like a bad idea.
Going by The Verge's impressions, the increase in screen size doesn't significantly affect image quality.

If it’s like the current Switch, they succ, not blow. Exhaust should be out of the top.

Also happy to hear that. It’s always a point of concern for me when the size increases but the res stays the same.

Overall, on my own thoughts and no longer replying, with the specter of 4K beginning to disappear, and with the acknowledgement that this new version of a hybrid console doesn’t offer much for TV players, I do think this Switch OLED is a lot of the things I’ve been wanting from a Switch redesign.

When I picked up my Lite a few years ago, I basically thought it was the perfect handheld. It was then I noticed how much the regular Switch had aged in comparison. The build quality and flex on the Joy-cons, the bezel, the buttons, the weight (sadly not addressed here). as well as the fact that the Lite just felt like a more pleasant way to play portable. I really felt then and there, that this needed an update.

I feel like they’ve done a great thing by learning into the tablet nature of the bigger Switch, with a larger screen. That alone separates it. It’s also nice to see 2021 aesthetics, screen quality, and a rethink of the whole design, even if mostly subtle (little touches like a bigger, oval power button are appreciated).

Sounds like a good buy for people that do not have a Switch yet. With the price tag it is not worth upgrading for people who already own a Switch.

I love the OLED on my Vita, so I'm definitely a fan for handheld gaming, and I would hope the Switch screen will be even better than the Vita's. But man, that price... It's just $50 cheaper than a PS5 Digital Edition.

Will probably trade in or sell my OG Switch for the OLED model. As a primary handheld user I welcome a bigger brighter screen and better speakers. Not the hardware upgrade we wanted but still a good hardware revision.

I really wanted to see one in the flesh to fully comprehend the new screen. Looks great in pictures… but it’s kinda like looking at an pic with HDR on a display that doesn’t support HDR.

You can sort of hack it, I guess. See if your phone is OLED, your TV is, or failing everything, head down to something with an electronics section and check out OLED screens.

Can even look at screens of Switch games on the first two, lol, and see how you feel about it.

Got it pre-ordered, oh well. At this point I'll just buy any new Switch-upgrade day 1, so I have maximum usage, lol.

Btw.:

I'm no longer on Twitter, but if you are, give this guy a follow! Hilarious account who dishes out some strongly needed justice:

Look at a Gen 1 Vita.

Mobile phones probably better to get a grasp on it.
That should be even easier than finding a Vita. Go to Verizon and look at their display models if you need to. LOL

Honestly, if your phone has an OLED then you will be used to it and the Switch OLED won't impress you. Apple says my phone has 'Super Retina OLED, HDR10, Dolby Vision, 625 nits (typ)' so..... I doubt it will look great to me.

Might have to disagree with that, watching YouTube videos or paying mobile games are entirely different things then gaming on a dedicated gaming device, the response times of OLED screens are crazy fast and add Nintendo's library of great games and you might be surprised how much of a improvement gaming is on OLED screens

I'll buy one if they're available. I play most of the time in portable mode on the Switch. I've got the money to burn, thanks to Sony and MS. :p

No one talks about the added internal storage. double the storage usually adds to the price too.

Overall its not the 4K model, but its a worth while "premium" model.

If you want a Switch you have 3 choices at 3 different price points meeting 3 different needs, that all play the same games.

It's not common on dedicated gaming devices. Are you saying OLED screens have no benefit over the standard LCD screen on the OG Switch ?
I am saying that if you are used to looking at an OLED on your phone, the Switch OLED won't be impressive to you, especially at 720p.

Still maintain they should have dropped the switch lite and OG $50 and kept this at $299. But I digress.

I think the fact that Nintendo never used really nice screens on the DS and Switch will make the OLED model look lightyears beyond the OG. Not saying its a bad thing but it factors in to why some might say its such a huge jump. I am a screen snob though.

Speakers sound like a good jump too. The OG can sound very muddy at peak.

The stand has to better. The OG stand barely qualifies as functional.

Agreed. This is $50 more expensive than the Xbox Series S and that's just ridiculous.

Maybe that's because 64GB of storage is not a big deal in 2021. The Xbox Series S is $50 cheaper, has superior hardware and comes with a 512GB SSD.

Nintendo puts in minimal effort and charges as much as they can and people have a soft spot for Nintendo. I saw a video yesterday praising the $60 port of Skyward Sword because you can NOW control the camera.

Man, Amazon.de is such a bunch of scammers.

So I changed my preorder from MediaMarkt to Amazon today. 10 Euro less, 249 Euro instead of 259. Okay.

What upsets me:

So the US-price is 249 Dollars, the price at Amazon Germany is 249 Euro. Ok. Seems good.

Question:

Why did the original Switch, that was announced for 299 Dollars, cost 329 Euro on Amazon.de?!
