Super Mario Wonder is already playable on PC in 4K/60fps via Nintendo Switch emulators

The next Mario game for Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Wonder, will officially release on October 20th. However, it appears that the game is already playable on PC in 4K/60fps via the Nintendo Switch emulators.

For those wondering, Super Mario Wonder leaked last week. And, to the surprise of no one, both Yuzu and RyujinX are able to run this new Mario game.

This isn't the first time that something like this has happened. For instance, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were playable on PC prior their official release date.

Not only that, but we've seen a lot of Nintendo Switch games running on the aforementioned emulators on their launch day. Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta 3, Monster Hunter Rise, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, and Pikmin 4 were all playable on PC the moment they came out.

Super Mario Wonder is a traditional 2D side-scrolling Super Mario game with 3D models. So, in theory, Yuzu and RyujinX will have no problem running on a wide range of PC configurations. Or at least that's my assumption. Now while the game is playable, I don't know whether you can play it from start to finish. I also expect newer versions of Yuzu and RyujinX to bring both visual fixes and performance improvements.

As always, we won't allow links to the game's ROM file, so don't bother sharing any of them.

I havent really messed around with Switch Emulation but i might now that we are near the end of the gen. Might go back and replay some of my fav games.

Unplayable performance (for me) so not worth the tradeoff but look at this shit in 8K (or downscaled 8K to 4K if your device can't play it back in real-time even), its fucking glorious:

The detail on the world map is like wtaf release a Pro Switch you bellends.

Can confirm: playing it in 4K and it is indeed glorious.

I feel compelled to stop after 3 levels since I'll just have it on Switch in a couple of days, and my wife will want to enjoy it with me.

Ran into a strange issue with Yuzu where after the introduction, I got a black screen that said saving but could still move and jump but not see anything. Moved to Ryujinx and haven't had any issues. Both seem to experience hiccups while playing, though. I'm running it on a Ryzen 7 5800x and Suprim RTX 4090, so I don't think it's me. Emulation of the game just isn't optimized yet, but on my setup it's incredibly playable!

Can I run this on my fold 5 ?

With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, I believe you could. That's the same chip going into the Odin 2, and it very capably plays Switch games. Although, which ones work well and which ones don't is currently a matter. For instance, TotK hasn't played well on the Odin 2. However, I would expect this will play well. Let me know how it plays if you try it. I'm hoping I will get a good selection of Switch games working on Odin 2.

damn that is sexy, guess Ill try it on pc instead of my switch

I wonder what Kotaku has to say about it?

In all seriousness though, IDGAF what people do as long as they buy a legitimate license.

It doesn't even bother me if they don't. How many people are gonna play this one or two times for just a few hours? It's a great game as far as I can tell, and I'm going to buy it. But I'm paying that full price of admission mainly because I like Nintendo and not because I think all these games are worth the price.

Damn this looks glorious.

Is emulation that bad for the switch? I've got a 5600x cpu and 6800xt with 32gb of ram and it's laggy on ryujinx

Laughing at that Kotaku comment

Im trying to run it at a glorious setting on PC without luck but yeah I'm getting the cart for the kids

That way they play this while I play Spidey 2, Har har

Can't wait for this game, paid it off in full weeks ago with a pre-order. I also have Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury which I'll play right after as a back-to-back Super Mario marathon. This is going to be fun, we haven't had a new Mario Game in 2D style Mario game in 11 years

Best 3D Mario, imo

I think I agree. 3D World is simply just amazing. When Nintendo is on the ropes is when they reach furthest into their creativeness to produce truly legendary games. I love everything about 3D World from level design to the entire sound track.

Having said that, however, I still do love the heck out of Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy. I like Sunshine more than Galaxy, also.

I poked around with it on Ryujinx on both desktop and Steam Deck and the performance just isn't there for the handheld. It's somewhat stable but only reaches around 30fps. i am sure that is more of an emulation problem than anything. I'll check back in with Yuzu tomorrow.

Excited to see how this pops on a Switch OLED display come tomorrow. It's such a charming and fun game even only a few levels in. Mario's new VA does a good job too, sounds very close to Charles Martinet.
