The rumored Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is apparently moving away from the original's turn-based combat, according to rumors circulating online.

MrMattyPlays reported in a recent video discussing the rumored remake that the game will be an action role-playing game of sorts, featuring a combat system that will be more accessible. MrMattyPlays doesn't know any specifics, though, so it could be something more than straight, action combat.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been rumored for a while, and it has yet to be announced officially. Earlier this week, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier revealed that the remake is indeed real and it is currently in development by Aspyr Media. The American developer already has a long history with Star Wars games, as it has developed, among other titles, the mobile port of the BioWare RPG.

Choose Your Path.
It is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. You are the last hope of the Jedi Order. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side? Hero or villain, saviour or conqueror... you alone will determine the destiny of the entire galaxy!
  • A brand new Star Wars role-playing experience with unique characters, creatures, vehicles and planets.
  • Learn to use the Force with over 40 different powers and build your own lightsaber.
  • Adventure through some of the most popular Star Wars locations, including Tatooine and the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk.
  • Choose your party from nine customisable characters, including Twi'leks, droids and Wookiees.
  • Travel to eight enormous worlds in your own starship, the Ebon Hawk.
The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has yet to be announced. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.

Thank god I still have the OG game.

I want so bad to believe anything StarWars is going to be good but that is so hard these days. It has got to be one of the most fake-woke brands out there now.

don't mind this so much, somewhere between kotor and jedi academy would be just great

bummer for og fans tho

I mean, I'll try it. But the entire reason everyone wants a straight Kotor remake is because the only thing we trust Bioware and co to do, is update the graphics and smooth some of the jagged 2003 edges off the game.

The game is a classic for a reason.

After seeing what they are doing with the Diablo 2 remaster I don't even trust these fucking developers to do that anymore.

Hey, Jedi Fallen Order was very good. And Squadrons was solid too. And Battlefront 2 turned out pretty good after the bungled launch. Credit where it's due, EA sucks, but they did manage to bounce back better than expected after they totally took the piss during the first few years of their exclusive contract.

I don't mind this, as the original game's gameplay was something I always had a hard time wrapping my head around as someone who primarily plays action games like shooters or third person action games.

I always felt my ideal Star Wars game would be a Jedi game with the lightsaber combat of Jedi Outcast, the Force powers of Force Unleashed and the story of KOTOR. I highly doubt that's what they're doing but a Jedi Fallen Order-ish game with KOTOR's story would be fantastic. Let's just hope they don't fuck around with the original story too much.

When Bioware moved on to Mass Effect after KOTOR I thought I would be mad that they changed up the combat, but I was wrong. I ended up preferring the Mass Effect games (that being said KOTOR is probably still my all time #1 game) in many respects.

Not sure how well Fallen Order -like gameplay would work for KOTOR though. It basically wouldn't be KOTOR anymore. Nevertheless I'd love to revisit the Old Republic and will wait eagerly to hear more about this alleged project.

I've never played the original. The only Bioware games I've played a decent chunk of are Dragon Age 1 and Inquisition.

I tried a little bit of Jade Empire back when I had a Blockbuster game pass (lol) and didn't like it at the time. So I am looking forward to a remake of their game that everyone loves so much, KOTOR, but hopefully it's not getting fucked up via modernization.

I don't think they should make it entirely play like Fallen Order, but have some Fallen Order elements for the lightsaber combat and some Mass Effect-esque third person shooter combat for the blasters. Still have the ability to do squad tactics and plan ahead, but maybe do it more like Republic Commando where it's also all real time.

If they updated the graphics and went with the action-ish Fallen Order type gameplay but kept everything else the same (characters, locations, missions, etc) I'd be on this like white on rice.

But you know they're going to change things for the worst.

The original (and KOTOR 2) are among my favorite EU stuff ever but I just don't trust most modern western developers these days.

I like the suspense when you have put your hard earned dollars into buying a lootbox and the excitement you feel when the wheel is spinning. What will it be ? just some crap or an awesome sword?

I hope they put a lot of that into the remake.

Are there any good turn based games being made anymore?

I was all up for more Star Wars games until Gina Carano got fired. It's clear the franchise won't be on safe footing until this idiot is removed from Lucasfilm,

Fat chance of that happening though since Disney seems to love her ass where it is. And no, I don't believe for one second the rumors being spread by the Fandom Menace that she's being replaced by Jon Favreau.

I don't either, but I will be cautiously optimistic as the gameplay was the primary thing I always had a hard time with. Never played tabletop RPGs much as a kid.

Of course, if they do fuck this up, I always have Jedi Outcast. Kyle Katarn ftw.
