I'm travelling to Wisconsin to visit my mom in a few weeks. Haven't been in the U.S. in 17 years. How badly will the exchange rate fuck me over, monetary-wise? Anyone familiar with the area have any suggestions for good places for food and drink? I'm going with my stepfather to either a Brewers or Cubs MLB game in Chicago for sure. Wanna try the local beers and places and in general just forget about my work as I'm on holidays until September.

I'm definitely going to have some deep dish pizza proper while I'm there.

Wisconsin eh. Western Blood's turf. And Wei Shen's neck of the woods, maybe someone else im forgettin too. Personally I've never been but if I had I'd advise ya to all the nice spots and what not

It's weird you made this thread euphemism about a literal visit to your mother.

Paging Freud.

No, it's weird that *you* associated that with my thread title.

Regardless, it's going to be nice to have a change of scenery for a while. Excited to try some of the local places for food and drink.

Where in Wisconsin are you heading? If you're going to be near Door County, and you like beautiful locales, check it out for sure. It's probably the most beautiful place in the state.

While in Chicago, a trip to the top of the Sears (Willis) Tower is mandatory, if it's a clear day. I also recommend the Art Institute (my personal favorite), the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Shedd Aquarium. If you're a fan of Pink Floyd, the Adler Planetarium is doing daily CGI shows for the entirety of The Dark Side of the Moon, and it's fucking awesome.

Chicago can be a shithole, but its tourist spots are mostly top-shelf.

As far as food, there are plenty of good pizza joints, yes, but if you wanna try a really good Italian beef sandwich, check out Mr. Beef at 666 N. Orleans. It's the inspiration for the TV show The Bear, and where some of it was actually filmed. Get it "sweet, hot, and juicy", and you'll probably go back for a second one. Bring wetnaps. :) Parking is free.

I've lived in Chicago most of my life. If you have any other questions, just ask.

I'm heading down to New Orleans in a couple of weeks. First time back to the States since pandemic bullshit. Can't wait to smoke a pack of Marlboro Reds, it's going to taste like freedom. Also I'm a proud executive member at Costco now, so I am excited to try out some Kirkland signature hard liquor.

Where the hell are you now that Marlboros are a delicacy? 😄

Do they not sell cigarettes there?

They do, they're just trash. Some drunk guy at the bar told me way back when that they make cigarettes different in Canada and all the flavor comes from the filter, where as in other countries they use different grades of tobacco which is why the flavor is better in other countries. I repeat this as fact because if anyone is well informed it's drunk guys you meet at the bar.

Bartender at work actually asked me to pick him up a pack, funny enough.

I'm in my hotel room unable to sleep, as I expected. Alarm set for 3am. Have to be at the airport 3 hours before my flight and I'm worried I've forgotten something. Gonna be stuck in Minneapolis for a 5 hour layover so I will be searching for a lounge in the interm.

I feel like this week will fly by. Maybe I'll drive a little to MI and surprise @teezzy.

One of my staff works at this restaurant here in the airport so free breakfast. No complaints there.
