It's sad to see it go, but I'm of two minds about this. The PSP came out (in one territory) 17 years ago. The PS3 15.

I remember when I started gaming, and considering the NES ancient, and it wasn't anywhere close to that in age.

The Vita is a little more unfortunate, but we all know how that story ended.

It was inevitable, but at least they aren't shutting down PSN entirely for these consoles (at least that's what it looks like).

So there will be no way for me to legitimately put some games on these consoles if I don't have physical? It seems weird that they can't fund the upkeep for a storefront that allows them to take money. They're already paying for PSN how much is this costing them.

Back to no tweet previews......on Discord I could at least see a preview of the tweets when people just copied and pasted them, even if I couldn't click through.

Showing up in full for me. Do you have something blocked or turned off, maybe in an extension?

It's a work thing, twitter is a blocked domain at my work, so I never get to see tweet previews which is why I used to bitch about people taking screenshots so much, and always try to provide those instead of direct links when possible.

I just don't understand why tweet previews seem to get through on Discord.

I don't mind them taking these stores offline if it is not a trend going forward. I understand these systems were created with non standard architecture. I just hope going forward all future systems can play back to at least PS4 and those games never get taken down.

I added the text to the OP under the Twitter posts.

Seems really odd to continue hosting and offering game downloads, but not allow for new purchases. Maybe I'm just not considering all of the variables.

You can still download your content, for now. But for how long? The day will arrive when your content is no longer available.

This is why you should ONLY buy physical.

Preservation is a bit of a worry with a lot of these systems, but hopefully the pirates have that covered as they always do. Longer term hopefully FPGA will get to the PS3 at some point with MiSTer 2 or 3. As for running the store - I'd imagine that it's not a zero-cost. It'll be running on legacy software that requires a good deal of effort to maintain and keep secure, likely building on libraries that are no longer supported, and with little up-to-date documentation available. It really is a bastard to keep those kind of systems running.

Would be nice if there was a way to DL game files via newer consoles PSN store, and then be able to transfer those directly to the antiquated consoles. They have to be losing money on these potential game sales they'll never see again. I can understand not running a legacy store but how is it not possible to get these files accessible from the new hardware and software.
