Are any of the Holmes games by Frogware any good? This game has got me interested since I'm a fan of the detective himself.

They've always been largely well regarded in terms of what they do. I think Frogware have found their niche and deliver on it.
To be honest I never cared for the Sherlock Holmes games by Frogware until I saw previews of Crimes and Punishment. The 3rd person gameplay with some fighting and exploration aside from detective work got me interested. This Chapter One game seems to be an open world of sorts so I'm up for playing as Holmes in that setting.

Well... I just finished Crimes and Punishments, and I must say i did enjoy it. It really puts you in the shoes of the great detective in a way I've never seen in a videogame. I liked that it streamlines a lot of the gameplay elements that at times frustrated me in detective/adventure games like these. Scanning a crime scene plus interrogating suspects are actually quite fun and engaging and are not a exercise in frustration like in say, LA Noire (a game I hated btw)? The puzzles aren't that difficult and the deduction minigame where Sherlock connects all the dots to come to a conclusion makes solving a crime a breeze if you're invested. But all this streamlining comes at a cost. The game is way TOO EASY and actually holds your hand a lot of the time. It's also too short and I would have liked more cases to solve.

I hope Frogwares expands upon the elements that worked in this game in Chapter One. The trailer made it look like you're in a small open world on the island so I'm hoping for some exploration. I'd like to see more gameplay elements like fighting and Holmes' penchant for disguises. C&P had too little of that.

Also, can we have arm wrestling? I thought the arm wrestling minigame here was brilliant.

Some of the voice acting is dodgy but that does look relevant to my interests. I have Crime And Punishment but never got round to it so I should probably play that first but it's going on my wishlist either way. On Gog though, not on Steam, so I can share it with the wife as she loves murder mystery stuff.

Crimes and Punishments was fantastic, their best Sherlock game by a mile. I didn't care much for the Devil's Daughter, since they changed the portrayal of Sherlock (looks like John Hamm... why?) and tried to incorporate action elements, poorly.

This one has me worried for the same reason--action doesn't belong in Sherlock games, nor does it really fit with the character.

Oh I liked some of the action scenes in this trailer, like when the guy asks who the devil are you that has to be from or a homage to the fight in The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist. He does box and use guns in the books but of course it has to be amplified because its a video game so I see where you are coming from.
