Oh boy, more of the "everyone is special!" shit. No interest whatsoever.

I honestly forgot this movie was even a thing. WW and Aquaman I could see getting sequels (even though WW84 was a huge letdown as a big WW fan), but Shazam? Ehhh.

Not to mention what's the point when you have a team of literal "Shazams". I'm good on the superpowered cheeky CGI fests. Black Adam filled my quota. If you're gonna do movies like that, you *have* to have the Marvel sheen and polish...otherwise it's just a less shiny turd.

IMO the de-facto Superhero flicks that people should base archetypes on are:

  • Perfect and happy cape flick with minimal edgy: Superman '78
  • Semi-grounded take on fantasy superhero with compelling emotional scenes: Wonder Woman
  • Supernatural/edgy bad ass: Blade
  • How to do a cape trilogy 101: Captain America 1-3 or TDK Trilogy (tie)
  • How to do antiheroes: Deadpool 1 or Suicide Squad 2 (tie)
  • How to do dark and grounded hero film: Logan
  • Absolute popcorn-flick insanity: Thor Ragnarok

To be fair, there was a whole Captain Marvel family in the comics (They changed the name to Shazam when Marvel Comics sued).

They could have done some really cool stuff with this IP, the Justice Society of America, and Black Adam but they've ruined it by going the cheeky route.

If I were going to make a Shazam movie I would have set the films in the 40s or 50s and brought in members of the Justice Society of America. The original Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, etc...

Yeah, I get that there always was a team, but because its "family friendly" and "cheeky" there's no stakes, and you have an entire team of super-superheroes. Even that could work fine *if* it's absolutely hilarious, like Ragnarok... but it's not even that.

The 50s idea is dope. I'd like that.

Blah. I haven't even seen the first movie but I'm willing to bet that episode of the Justice League Unlimited cartoon where Shazam and Superman went at it is better than both of these.

First was a perfectly fine kid friendly popcorn flick, but absolutely did not need a sequel.

The only thing worth doing with the Marvel Family would be to have used Mary Marvel in a Formerly known as/I can't believe it's not the Justice League Movie, but we'd have need a proper JLI adaptation for that first really, and we don't live in a timeline that awesome.

Oh what could have been...

While we're on the subject of DC movies that didn't need to be made, the Blue Beetle movie looks terrible.

Like Captain Marvel/Shazam, BB was a Fawcett Comics property acquired by DC. Originally a Batman clone, he's best known for his partnerships with Booster Gold and Guy Gardner. Then DC completely fucked over the character by changing him into something else.

Regardless, the original Blue Beetle was interesting, the new version that DC rolled out with the New 52 isn't, and the movie looks terrible.

Only thing you got wrong is that Ted Kord was the second Blue Beetle, who took the mantle from the Fawcett comics original Dan Darret, after DC got the rights, but yeah, Ted was Leagues better as a character than Jamie is.
