Thread: Sea of Thieves is the #1 pre-ordered game on PSN
I'm just baffled that this is beating Stellar blade. Normies continue to have shit taste.

Still, the real thought to consider is that the bigger a success this is, the more likely it is MS will pull the plug on Xbox hardware.

This has got to be part of the calculations they're making behind the scenes after all. If this came in with a whimper and demonstrated there's not an audience on their competitors hardware, well there'd be more of an argument to be made for it being worthwhile trying to reinvigorate Xbox, and cater to an audience they used to have, that hadn't gone elsewhere and would this be potentially recaptureable.

As it is, well this doesn't bode well does it? That's likely a lot of people that might have chosen an Xbox that have definitely chosen a PlayStation instead.

Given the wider health of the brand and increasing irrelevance of Xbox within the hardware market, every bit of evidence that could be used to argue against wasting money throwing good money after bad is another nail in Xbox as a platform's coffin.

Xbox is in a position where they can only lose mid to long term as a console manufacturer.

Not putting their games on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles = can't pay the bills after all the acquisitions, can't fund their studios, have to shut down their business because they won't be able to develop enough quality games.

Putting their games on other consoles = short to mid term funding of their business, but strong mid to long term damage for their brand, making their console offerings unattractive.

I guess they'll focus on becoming a successful publisher as a priority, with the optional hardware and services instead of trying to dethrone PlayStation.

Honestly, I mostly agree, except on the 'optional hardware' part.

Xbox consoles are a massive drain on resources and logistical headache that has no reason to exist should they keep selling so few systems. They need to sell at a loss and be a compelling platform compared to others to sell against the competition, and with games going fully multiplatform they just are not going to be able to do either anymore. They're already barely doing so now.

Like I said, the moment PlayStation ports were announced, Xbox as a console's days were numbered, and their games seeing such a large demand is only going to speed that date to us faster.

If I had to place a wager right now, we won't see a 10th gen Xbox. Unless they completely reverse course and somehow manage to make a return to the early 360 approach, not seeing an 11th gen Xbox is a certainty regardless IMO.

If you've never played Sea of Thieves it's a fucking blast especially with friends. A good game getting popularity when opened up to new community for the first time isn't really that much of a shock.

What's more pathetic is acting like there's something on that shitfuck Sony console still worth playing which IS WHY Sea of Thieves is where it is.

You had a good point with the first paragraph, then pissed it all away by going full fanboy with the second paragraph.

Never go full fanboy.

The xbox warriors are getting more awk here lately lol

I think they can still have a somewhat profitable hardware business even if they "only" sell 30 million over the course of a generation thanks to all the fees for multiplats, micro transactions, game pass and selling their exclusives 6 months or one year later on other consoles. That's still a ton of money and they're one of the biggest publishers in the business after their buying spree, they can find a way to pull it off.

Based on their history in understanding the business and the needs of the consumer though... I have my doubts they'll find a smart and profitable way.

Tells me people really don't want to buy an Xbox. If there's demand for a game available on a system and it doesn't sell until it releases on a competing system.... well. 🤷‍♂️

I think Microsoft did too good a job telling people they didn't care if they bought Xboxes or not.

Also makes me think people have shitty taste because by most accounts Sea of Thieves was a pretty unspectacular game.

Don't care for the game but im glad there is interest on PlayStation. Hopefully its success will lead to more games from Rare

I really liked a lot about the game. It was the simplicity of the swordplay that had me bored too early on, unfortunately. If it just felt like you were actually doing more with the combat mechanics, this game would have been a major banger.

I honestly expect a home console / handheld PC dual sku in 2026, and I think 10 years from now there will only be streaming from both Sony, and MS while the dinosaurs are still rocking local PC hardware. Once everyone hits Geforce Now levels of quality it's Joever.

So is this one of Rare's games or something? I haven't played anything by them since like... Goldeneye.

You PS guys are in for a treat-and-a-half. I got deep into SoT a few years ago when the Burning Shores update came out, resulting in a legendary 10 hour session where I joined a group of randos, and we bullied an entire server into a single alliance, then we farmed. Being in an alliance means you get half value of anything turned in by crews in your alliance, and we straight-up turned an entire server into a PVE server. Imagine joining a game session, and suddenly 6-7 ships roll up telling you to join or die, and BTW turn your reaper's flag on so you get premium currency for doing shit without worrying about PVP.

I don't think Rare ever planned for cooperation at sword-point. We made so much goddamned gold, and doubloons it wasn't even funny.

BTW, learn your fucking naval terminology. Port is left, Starboard is right, Bow is forward, Aft is behind.

If I tell you there's a rock off the starboard bow I expect you to know what the fuck to do.

They should release Halo 1, 2, 3 and Reach on Playstation and pretend the other ones never happened while dismantling that crap called 343 and making Bungie publish the next one.

Haven't played in a few years, but yeah my bud and I would sloop around and destroy the server and talk shit....which then we would be called toxic....which then made us f with people even more. It was great. But that was PC, I can't imagine trying to play that on sticks. Just remember the code of the sloop.....if there's other ships around, sloops attack them first and not each other. #sloopgang

This is before I even got really good at PvPing, but like you said, it's a blast with friends. The amount of people who cry about you killing them and taking their shit....in a PIRATE GAME....hilarious.
