Thread: SCP - I knew about it, never read any of it, still probably won't but I did like one in particular.

I was introduced to SCP-096 via this youtube short:

Funny. Intriguing. Good explanation. Nice animation work that made me go looking for the background on it.

So I go and read about it.

Then the document about it and subsequent incident report.

Two things that stand out to me is that if you only view four pixels of an image of the creature, then your doom is guaranteed. No tech can save you. Do you have a picture of some environment from a vacation on your wall where the creature's face photobombed it accidentally and someone happens to see it but not comprehend what they are looking at, you are doomed. May not be immediate, but it is going to happen. When the creature does its deed, it goes back to being docile and able to be contained until the mistake of some poor fool stumbling upon any myriad of images that accidently captured its face until the end of time works well around the mythos.

Neat.

Using the prisoner, who was a tattoo artist, to look at an image of the creature and draw a picture of it while in a bathysphere deep in the ocean to buy time for him to complete his task before he meets his doom was pretty clever.

I like that the entry doesn't have a lot of meandering pages to it. Short, descriptive, imparts a lot of lore within a little bit of documentation and feeds on a fear of missing out, in the reverse. Do you want to look? Do you trust that the creature exists and will get you? Go ahead, go look at it and see what happens.

Reminds me of the Witch in Left4Dead that gets aggravated if you stare at her or mess with her instead of trying to creep by her as carefully as possible.

Feel free to add your favorite. I understand that some of these entries do connect with others as canon; I just don't have the gumption to go clicking through the site and try to read it all.
