Lets be real Reg there is no way on earth you're going to underpower it. You're German, you're going graphically Autobahn the fuck out of that bad boy as soon as you can until you: -

then tell us all about it, with screenshots and slideshows.

Don't be so sure. Performance with DLSS on my 3440x1440 monitor will often be hitting my max 165hz refresh rate. 5% less performance won't have that big of an impact. Way lower temps and less noise will be worth it.

4090 was already pushing on the high end of acceptability for power usage and heat output. Their approach to this generation has me worried for the laptop versions of the chips.

Hopefully they will be able to figure out a way to improve performance while reducing power consumption and heat for the 6000 series.

Reviews for partner cards are out.

Performance is the same everywhere there's nothing to talk about, just the same.

Cooling and temp wise there are big differences in a few cases, for way higher prices.

Those reviews became boring. There was a time when they had performance tiers. Now it's just the fans.

Feels like there haven't been major performance differences with partner cards since the 1000 series nearly a decade ago, and even then it wasn't huge.

While the cards themselves aren't that incredible, I think we need to applaud Nvidia for their AI shit.

In the new version, normal DLSS got so good with the new transistor model, that performance mode now looks better than the old balanced mode. Meaning that all old RTX card users basically got a free performance boost because they can now easily go for a lower DLSS mode with the results being even better than the higher mode before.

So basically might as well look for the most cost-effective least fugly looking GPU for the most part.

Nvidia was still putting blower coolers on their FE 10 series cards, so it wasn't that hard for AIBs to improve on noise/cooling/performance.

Edit: Just thinking about when I had a EVGA 1080ti. Hard to believe the TDP was 250w.

So apparently, the new transistor model for DLSS is more demanding and the 20xx and 30xx cards are slower compared to how the 40xx and 50xx cards deal with it because of the improved tensor cores.

After watching a few reviews.... Made the 5090 less attractive to me. That thing takes so much power and creates so much heat, I don't think I want that in my small gaming room. Will be insane in the summer, also how it impacts all th other components in the rig.

Overall, I'm very underwhelmed. The 5080 will be a 4080 Super with slightly faster RAM. And the only new feature is MFG, which only makes sense in a few games like Cyberpunk with Overdrive.

I want a 4090 instead tbh but those are more expensive than the 5090 at the moment.

Yea, I'm going to hold off on this generation. I was really expecting a big jump like from 3x00 to 4x00 series cards. It's only a 2yr wait anyway for the 6x00 series of cards. I don't think many developers are going to be able to push 4090 out enough where the FPS drop is significant enough to consider a faster card.

And seeing the benchmarks for the 5080... The 4090 is still significantly ahead. Tbh, I'd buy a 4090 if it was available for like €1.8k. But it isn't, and they stopped the production so availability won't get better.

Nice to see you back! :D

Thank you, just thought I'd drop in while I was in town.

@Hostile_18 let's cry together about the non existent availability of the 5090 tomorrow.

Which one are you going for? I want the FE.... It's gonna be so frustrating.

An MSI one, Vanguard, Trio or Suprim. Wanted FE but its louder and early signs of coil whine (if reviewers mention it you know its bad lol). I need more RGB dragons in my case. I'm seeing tomorrow as placing my order but I only expect to get one Feb/March.

@regawdless 4090 + for RT Ultimate.

No coil whine when I undervolt the card!

Yeah, there's nothing. Nvidia shop just says "Coming soon". Nothing to buy yet. There were zero cards.

Paper launch.

Swung by both Best Buy and Canada Computers, BB said online only - good luck with that - and CC put this up before they opened:

Similar to the 4000 series launch.

Edit: Typo, nearly froze my fingers off typing outdoors
