Yes.Was John Romero really an egotistical asshole who was way in over his head trying to create Daikatana?
Or just a creator who got caught up in the hype surrounding him? What's really the truth of the matter?
Looking at Wikipedia I see Romero is married to Brenda Brathwaite, whose only achievements of note are Playboy the Mansion and Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes. What cause does she have to be so smug? At least her husband worked on classics like Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, so he's fully entitled to bragging rights.I will care when I see gameplay. Romero (and his wife) are total blowhards who like to hear their own voice. I have sat through MANY sessions hosted by them and they are insufferably smug. They do the GDC and IGDA circuit regularly and ride on the achievements of their past. Young game devs fawn over them and you can tell they live off that.
Not to discount his early work, but he hasn't done anything of note in decades. Wish him the best, but my expectations are low.
I agree that its more or less baseless. She did decent work on Wizardy 8 and DnD Heroes, but nothing rockstar level. Where she made a big splash in the Indie and Academic scene was with her 'out there' board game designs. Of which most were not fun games but avant-garde.Looking at Wikipedia I see Romero is married to Brenda Brathwaite, whose only achievements of note are Playboy the Mansion and Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes. As for Romero, I can't believe he'd still blow hot air to this day after the way Daikatana bombed.

Holy Fucking Shit. Making a game about the Holocaust? I'm amazed she still has a career after that.I agree that its more or less baseless. Here is one that young game designers of my 'generation' use to reference as a crowning achievement
