Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Housemarque have released the launch trailer for third-person roguelike shooter Returnal.

Over at the PlayStation Blog, Returnal game director Harry Krueger has also published a survival guide including recommended loadouts, combat strategies, and more.

Looks amazing, like everything I'd want out of a "Risk of Rain 3". The vibe is very horror/dark/psychological terror but I'm pleased to see plenty of "brighter" areas in the game too. Combat looks crazy.

I shouldn't get a PS5 for this, right? lol of course not, it's not like they're even available 🤷‍♀️

The shooting not being some weightless utter shit already puts this over risk of rain 2 tbh.

I know that one has probably far more content, but the shooting is probably the worse i ever played in a modern 3d game, like shooting peas.

Yeah, that's a good contrast to point out. Unless you're lucky enough to have some excellent upgrades, a lot of battles in RoR2 can be slogs of attrition, backpedaling and shooting, backpedaling and shooting. I love the roguelike and roguelite format, so I love seeing it given proper tweaking and attention in a AAA game. This game was the one and only "system seller" that I've seen on either system, at least according to my own tastes. That's why I haven't plunged in yet.

I was not talking about that, i was talking about how weightless the gunplay is, hit reactions etc.
You have zero sense of power.

I think I know what you mean (sorry if my reply didn't reflect that). The "feel" of the guns -- irrespective of damage -- feels off. In other words, it isn't the best handling third-person shooter out there, nor do the weapons feel like they have impact when your bullets hit an enemy. The enemies don't really stagger or react much at all, except the bosses, kinda. Everything is a bullet sponge.

Anyway, enough about Risk of rain. I think it's evident from the footage that Returnal has superior shooting mechanics and player feedback.
