Thread: Report: The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Is Real; First Gameplay Improvement Details Revealed
Hype Thread
Full remake gives me pause because Oblivion was such a masterpiece that only needed modding for UI and a fresh coat of paint as time went on, then you could build out from there for unique landscapes and equipment, a lot of which the remake is not going to do. I also don't trust what they could do with gameplay, since the combat was heavily physics based with objects moving through the space of the game at different speeds, which had huge synergy with the dungeon design and traps. They moved to hit-scan for Skyrim and, while it is more intense, it also dumbed everything else all down.

There's also an upper limit to how much I can replay Bethesda games. It's obviously way higher than most RPGs but eventually I did get to the point where I was seeing all the same things over and over again. I'll get the remake for sure but I don't know how long I'll stick with it once that happens again.

The same people who've been bitching about how Bethesda should abandon Creation Engine for years are now bitching about Unreal, and how there will likely not be much of a modding scene.

I was just writing a post how UE5 in the hands of Bethesda might be a disaster lolz

Which is weird bc UE is pretty moddable unless devs lock players out.

I wonder this... I saw all those videos shitting on Avowed because Skyrim had interactive objects/scenery (a Bethesda staple) and similar graphics... is UE5 capable of the same physics/interactivity?

God, remember before the new consoles came out, they wanted us to believe that UE5 would just be giving us all of this?

Last rumor I heard was same story/expansion content but gameplay utilizing improvements from Starfield/Fallout/Skyrim. Im guessing it was a tech test that turned into a full remake.

This sounds better. If they can get rid of enemies leveling up faster than you then it might be worth revisiting

I'm hoping for new side quests or entirely new questlines. I understand keeping the main quest and guild quests more or less the same but I'm hoping for more. I mean, they're calling this a remake not a remaster. And as we've seen with the Resident Evil remakes, Capcom changed all the dialogue and added/removed locations, items and much more.

If all the quests are exactly the same as I remember (and as someone who's played Oblivion like 3 times I remember all of them pretty good) then all the gameplay improvements in the world won't make me play this. I want new stories not new ways to swing a sword.

They are callling it a Remaster.

Oh they are? All the rumors since the beginning called it a Remake, the thread title itself calls it that. If the rumors were wrong and it's only a Remaster then it's a pass for me. Especially with Expedition 33 dropping next week.

This is the picture in the original post that was being attributed to an 'all trans dev team' for the Remake.

And of course the lie spreads around the world before the truth even gets its boots on. There is a dedicated group of people putting in the work to make sure things fail.

God damn, I hate a massive lot of gamers. They ruin it for the rest of us.

That picture had nothing to do with gaming, Grumz was just being his usual dumb-ass self taking bait without doing a hint of research.

That fucker. The sad thing is: he's probably closer to right than wrong. Entire dev community seems to have been infiltrated by woke retards. I mean, how many pictures of dev teams have we seen that look just like the one he posted? That's what's sad: it's entirely believable.

Tit for tat. How many games were shuttered or heavily altered due to these cultists cancelling them? How many years has that gone on?

It's weird, isn't it?

Grummz is one random bloke talking shite on his own personal Twitter account. "Reeeeeeeee I hate gamers and Grummz should be banned!"

Several major companies blowing enormous budgets on games that lecture the player about toxic masculinity and how to talk to non-binary people while the people in charge insult the customers. "The mountains look nice and maybe the gameplay will be good!"

As usual, the people noticing are the true problem, spoiling everyone's fun. No comment on how many fans had their fun spoiled across so many franchises over the years due to retarded writers and diversity hires.

I would add that the entire dev community also has the backing of pretty much every gaming media outlet and affiliated Twitter accounts and YouTube channels etc.

People still lean on Metacritic scores as an indicator of a games quality even though outlets like IGN and Eurogamer are obviously putting a heavily biased slant on their reviews.

If you like to post about games on NeoGAF or ResetEra or even on platforms like Reddit then get comfortable walking on eggshells because they'll be ready to shut any uncomfortable conversation down ASAP.

We're even doing it here to some extent with the separate threads thing.

However, the second a couple of guys start making YouTube videos in their spare room in their own time criticizing aspects of the industry? Oh no, those guys are all a bunch of grifters and just as bad as the activists infesting game dev teams!

If one of those guys makes a mistake or jumps too soon on incorrect information? Oh boy, string them up! Second, third, and so on, chances are for the mainstream outlets only.

A couple thoughts I've had today.

1. If somebody at MS Gaming's marketing department was given the task to sell this game without spending money, this whole ordeal is exactly how I'd do it. The cat was already out of the bag with the FTC leaks, and later former Virtuous dev leaking on Ree, or Preddit (or wherever the fuck they did it). Now let's all be real here, this game isn't going to be a 10 million+ sales powerhouse, as nobody less than 35 will have any direct affinity for it. This is one situation where I do think at least some of these leaks have been targeted since at least December last year, and today's screenshots have had fans like me frothing at the mouth. I honest-to-God don't think showing it off last showcase, with even a paltry $20 million marketing budget would have gotten enough people other than people like me to buy it enough to justify said marketing budget.

They haven't spent a dime on promoting this, and it's all the whole damn gaming internet is talking about right now.

2. I'm not looking forward to the, "Heads I win, tails you lose," talking points concerning this game, and BGS. If it's a success the narrative will be, "Look at how these guys are showing up BGS with their own game, in a different engine no less, BGS should be worried (and probably shut down)," whereas if it's a failure it will be, "Look at how nobody cares about Elder Scrolls anymore, BGS should be worried (and probably shut down)." There will be an endless stream of YouTube videos claiming that Bethesda is Dead regardless of how this game outsourced to another dev team does, and I just find it tiring.

If this thing indeed runs on UE5 i cant wait to see how my 4090 crawls!

Love Oblivion, will check this out for sure.

I can understand this releasing on console but on PC will the amount of mods available for the original i dont understand the need for this.
I enjoyed Oblivion(+expansions) back in the day but wont be buying this, kinda of a one and done for me.

The levelling system was absolutely aweful though, i hate RPGs that level up enemies as you level up, defeats the purpose of leveling.

My son played the hell out of Skyrim, so he'll want to play this one, but I agree on the leveling. Feels like progression's been nerfed. I can lean into enemies leveling for an NG+ type experience, but that's it.

Am actually stoked for this, but after seeing the new shots I am concerned. I played Oblivion for like 300 hours or something, and one of the things that kept me there was its serene, beautiful world. If you look at the original game, it uses quite a bit of green for trees and vegetation, this new game is full of brown. It wouldn't be game breaking but the world will be less beautiful and that's sad IMO.

Having never played it or owned it, I am stoked too. Funny thing is, I own Skyrim and I never played it. 😲

It's a great game. Some of the quests are just amazing. I'm just playing Skyrim for the first time (it's on hold because I'm playing only Witcher 3) but it's really good too.

So is this dropping in 1-2 days?

I can't see it myself. Do they tend to stealth drop anything? Seems too unusual to me.

It would be a day 1 for me. Nostalgia hits hard with this game. And nostalgia always wins with me.
