Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly shopping for PlayStation exclusives and third-party partnerships in Korea, according to a local news site. The company has been eager to expand its gaming business around the globe and has already struck a number of deals with Chinese and Korean developers alongside looking for talent in India.

Expect more global PlayStation exclusives
According to MTN Korea (via MP1st, Zuby_Tech), Sony is in talks to invest in the following developers:

  • Pearl Abyss, developer of upcoming PS4 and PS5 action role-playing game, Crimson Desert.
  • NCSoft, developer of PC MMORPG Blade & Soul.
  • Com2uS, developer of mobile game Summoners War
  • Neowiz Games, publisher of upcoming PS4 and PS5 soulslike, Lies of P.
Neowiz Games recently struck a deal with Microsoft to launch Lies of P on Xbox Game Pass.

Sony has made no secret of its desire to secure content around the globe. The company hit the jackpot with Chinese developer miHoYo, netting popular games Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Microsoft has reportedly expressed its regret for overlooking Genshin Impact, and is now keen to follow Sony's footsteps around the globe, with eyes on Chinese and Korean developers.

I think Neowiz Games would be a good fit, they seem to be very skilled and competent.

Your thoughts?

I mean, companies that make games I don't really play, and Lies of P isn't even out yet. Let's see what their next game is before even thinking of buying them....

I'd like to see Sony buying Neowiz and then force them to do Bloodborne 2. They're doing such a great job with Lies of P and it's basically Bloodborne.

Honestly. Sony tech knowledge behind it, more resources, a bit more accessible. Mark Cerny.

Korea took over cars, electronics, music, TV shows and movies so I guess the next logical step is videogames.

And they're all shit.

Cars = soulless throwaway trash
Electronics = cheap copy of Sony / throwaway trash
Music = soulless throwaway trash
Games = bloated p2w soulless throwaway trash

I haven't seen any Korean TV/film but I'm sure it follows the same beat

I mean Hyundai offered the first 10 year warranty in the US back in the 90s. Their cars were pretty reliable and progressively became as good as Toyota or Honda if not better in terms of features and design.

Sony was always more expensive when it came to TV and other electronics but their quality was also a cut above the rest. Somewhere in the 2000s Sony quality turned to shit but they still maintained their higher prices, that's when Samsung and LG took over by offering better products at a cheaper price point than Sony. All my shit is LG and Samsung (fridge, microwave, TV, computer monitor, washing machine), no issues with any of it *knocks wood*.

Kpop isn't for everyone of course but the production values are very high, the artists hardworking, talented and respectful for the most part. Western pop music kinda died with Michael Jackson. Now you have songs titled "Wet ass pussy" featuring obese fugly women twerking. Plus they're all woke activists.

Surely you've heard of shows like Squid Game, The Glory, All Of Us Are Dead or movies like Parasite or Train To Busan. Korean productions are performing extremely well on Netflix in the US and Europe. I mean Squid Game is the most streamed show ever on Netflix, Korean or otherwise. It's nice to have shows and movies with good plots with almost zero woke bullshit that plagues almost every Western show and movie like a cancer these days.

Obviously those online gacha games are shit, but they're always shit no matter where they're made. I'm talking about games like Lies of P and Stellar Blade. There just seems to be a lot of untapped potential there and it wouldn't surprise me if in a decade or so Korea has several major devs/publishers who can compete with Capcom, Sega, Square-Enix, etc...

1. Hyundai/Kia have always been trash. They found a way to keep a cheap GDI motor vehicle running to 100k, when it promptly dies. Their non-GDI stuff is still shitty, to boot. Ask a mechanic.

2. I was a dyed in the wool Samsung fanboy (laptop, TV, phone, etc)... my TV shit the bed 3yrs in (bricked itself), phone they quit updating 2yrs after I bought it (S7+... went iPhone never looked back), laptop kept chugging but it was from 2009 before they went to hell. I recently got one of their TVs to put in my guest room and it has to be fully unplugged for 30 seconds to get the WiFi to kick back on (I work in IT and I have tried every fix I can).

3. Music is bubbly garbage that sounds like recycled Jpop. Also no good metal or other music unless I missed it.

4. Can't say anything about TV/movies but I was planning on watching Squid Game.

Korean TV and film is actually quite decent in my view. While the TV can be a bit generic, they have a lot of larger than life characters, which can keep things interesting. Their films can also be a lot more raw and realistic, sort of like Chinese cinema but more variety.

Also the music was cool from 2010-2015, but has now sadly succumbed to following the lead of western influences, and is now just a sad imitation of western music. 😞

While true, there is clearly a lot of technical talent in the country. I feel like with Sony as a producer and possibly even handling game design, we could see some really incredible results.

Just please, no more garbage soulless online games full of microtransactions.
