I have a handful of DDR games for original Xbox which i cant play because i dont own any mats

An ex of mine bought them years ago and our plan was to get some of these

Iirc these werent as effective as the actual arcade machines. One of my buddies had looe the expensive ass metal one when we were kids lol

Really like games which get me off my ass

Are these chill or am i gonna slip and bust my ass instead of busting a move?

Yes I had imported them from Japan in '99. Worked like trash, I then bought the hard ones but they broke so I didn't bother after. I mean working at minimum wage for a week just to rebuy one was too much.

DDR had inspired me and an engineering team to do a real-time music analysis pad using mathlab and an oscilloscope to analyse if you dansed correctly to the beat of any music. Too bad we lost the contest cause it was an amazing concept. We had a real life working prototype. The contest was having a company paying for the rights.

Man, those things were terrible! We'd try all sorts of modifications to make them more reliable, but they just sucked. Still lots of fun.

There's a Polish company that makes relatively affordable hard pads that work really well. I bought a pair a few years ago to play with the family (using Stepmania on PC) and we got a lot of good use out of them.
