Unless you've been sleeping under a stone, you know about Resetera's current attempt to paint FF16 as racist, because Square Enix producer Yoshida said in an interview that there apparently wouldn't be black characters in the game due to the pseudo-historical accuracy of the game being set in a fantasy medieval Europe. There are brown people in the game, just not stark black ones. In this thread, Resetera even is supporting an insane video that claims FF16 sets back black people by 60 years. The repeated argument of Resetera crazies is that "if you can have magic and dragons, then you can have black people". Which is on one hand true. On the other hands, there's NO OBLIGATION to have black people. Furthermore, I find it pretty offensive to put black people in the same category as fantasy-elements, but what do I know.
Then half an hour ago, I'm watching Rev's latest video and it's once again about the topic of voice-acting. You can watch the video below. Basically, there are people, even from the dubbing industry themselves, that claim only black voice-actors should be allowed to dub black fictional characters. Which is absolutely insane. I vividly remember how 10-15 years ago, calling a voice a "black voice" would get you insta-banned on NeoGAF, because "there is no black voice, black people don't talk differently from anyone else, you're pushing stereotypes!!1". This whole voice-acting drama is so obviously hypocritical and actually problematic, because not only can anyone act any race as long as the acting is good; there's also different SPECIES that are voice-acted by, gasp, humans. Entire dubbing industries would go out of business if that insane requirement became a rule. The German voice-actor of Samuel L. Jackson is the whitest man, and he's doing a fantastic job. Then, as Rev points out, these same nutjobs NEVER complain about white voice-actors dubbing ASIAN characters. It's only ever an issue with black characters. The agenda couldn't be more transparent.
I'm also remembered of the utterly insane Resetera-Thread made by the hilarious user "neoxon". You can read it here. He's calling Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sakurai and Nintendo racist for not having more black characters as playable fighters. During the entire debate in that thread, the actual key issues is not only being ignored, but anyone mentioning it got permabanned: Smash Bros. is a reflection of the industry. When there are no big, popular games with black lead characters, then there can be none in Smash Bros (plus the games needed to be on a Nintendo platform, too). It's insane how these people want totally lame, tertiary characters for Smash only for their skin color. And they're ignoring that Smash Bros. is super diverse beyond skin color: What other franchise got that many diverse characters that aren't even limited to being humans? Complete dismissed. :/
I'm making this thread to have an on-going place to discuss the hypocrisy and call out bs of the woke crowd when it comes to black characters in fiction. Apparently we cannot just have good games. Apparently developers aren't allowed to make the games they want anymore. And apparently voice-actors should be segregated by their race, which is totally not racist /s. And these same people entirely ignored Taion from Xenoblade 3, probably the best black character of the last decade.
